I dont think matt has to drop the proscreens because he is an independent evaluator and company separate from cgc. there are no guarantees

any idea on the price matt got? I hope he can afford his dream action 1 now with the sale price

And btw, it isnt that easy to find pre 1970 9.4-9.6 etc candidates anyway...

Thanks, They are cool books though, I will post pictures of them when I get them in the mail... The 9.4's have a big date stamp on them, I think that is why they didnt get the 9.6 grade. They were just as nice or even nicer than the 162 that got the 9.6

That's the risk with a no reserve auction. You could put prices on them and try them here on the boards. Just have scans, prices and list them in the right area of the boards.

nah its pretty hard to sell on the boards for the top prices. I've had the best luck selling highest graded books on Comiclink where you get the top collectors duking it out. I see on gpa there were some sales of other numbers around this book for numbers like $1500 etc...

I guess my question is do people think there are good bidding wars on comiclink for something like OAAW 162 in 9.6?

what is the market like for high grade OAAW's? These were in a collection I picked up of DC's but I dont collect the war comics. I was thinking sell the 162 to pay for the rest?

Seems like not many out there, not sure how to price them or if to just put them in a comiclink auction.

The 162 9.6 $400-500

The 163 9.4 $150-225

If these were in a dealer's stock, I imagine they would ask for more.

thanks for the insight... I'm used to selling Marvels, funny how DC's in high grade aren't really worth much like Marvels are. These are really nice looking, I will just keep them in the stack, I have nothing in them!

Actually, the only time I've seen DCs go for good prices is in those auctions of big collections, where you get a few big collectors going head to head. I would imagine the 9.6 might get a few collectors to go head to head in a comiclink auction, but most likely it would sell for some price like $200 if only, as I fear would happen, 1 person was bidding on it.

These grades are really harsh on the 12c DC books. Other posters say CGC is still really tight last few months. I'm so mad, because I have a bunch of 9.2-9.4-9.6 12c DC's that will be graded in the next week. I know from looking at these pictures I am going to end up with a bunch of 9.2 drek for books that deserve 9.4 etc .... I am so steamed....The same thing happened last October, they were tight. Why are they always so tight in October right after I get my books in the summer?

Ive got stuff going to be graded this week, any scuttlebut on if cgc is still grading ultra tough or are they back to the median? Last I heard a month ago they had gone back to the median

Yes the staple has punched through the paper, the staple is like its embedded in the book. The staple has cut the paper under the staple cleanly. But the book looks new otherwise

Q: common mid 60's DC defect: lots of them have the staples punched through the paper. I called CGC they said they would maybe downgrade from 9.4 to 9.2 or 9.0

Anyone have any idea how hard they would ding this?

The whole area under the staple was punched through, but no paper is coming up around the sides.

What is the story of this collection (when did it come out and where was it sold for so cheaply?)

I noticed Detective 358 is still VF/NM with top staple detached. I have about 5 like this right around this number. They look NM- but have a staple detached, I just assumed they are VG. Are they really considered VF/NM?

Also, are the DC's the ones everyone regrets not buying? (ie. are my Detectives in the 350s worth something? haha)

Picked up the Wings GGA lot on heritage sunday auction... armost all the covers in one lot! probably paid too much, but there is a 94 in there, and it was almost all the classic covers. I hope the reds are deep!

Really? I'm not sure how to judge FH because I dont know how special this coloring really is because I'm a new collector of these, so love to here your opinion that it is great coloring. I do know the purple looks amazing in hand, its comparable some of the best stuff Kelholt got off me before I sort of knew what I was doing .

Picked this up from goldenacase... so excited to get a Fight Comics 31....

I guess I can understand where Bangzoom is coming from. I've lucked into a collection of 60's DC's all 9.4-9.6's that I bought for lower prices (like $30 each). I see no reason to sell them, they are beautiful and I'm in for a low price of 10% of their value, so might as well keep them, like Bangzoom does! His are just worth a lot more, but the thinking is the same. There is no pressure to sell if you are in for a low price.

Every so often I re read this thread bangzoom, and I wonder if now, 5 years later, with the explosion of values, you have ever thought of reconsidering your no selling rule on these books?

 

Also, I never did see any Good Girl Art, do you have a Blue Beetle 52 and 54?

 

The answer to both questions is no.

one day are you going to give these to a museum (a comic book hall of fame?) or something, so collectors, who will never have the chance otherwise, forevermore can make a pilgrimage to see a real collection? These famous collections get locked away and no one gets to enjoy them except the owner. Its like if all the Picassos were locked away and no one could see one in person.

At least it would be amazing to have an intact collection GA somewhere for all to see, it would be priceless, the famous 'Bangzoom comic museum' maybe just sell the keys (probably a huge percent of the cash value of the collection) for your heirs benefit and donate the rest for the tax deduction in a charitable trust to offset the gains (thats the tax attorney in me speaking...) It would still be amazing just to have all the 'filler issues' Haha
