CSS 22 certainly draws its market for its cover. Although the VF+ copy'll do very well in this auction, it shouldn't really hold a candle to Vault Of Horror 12, which is (along with Crypt 17) the biggest grail in the E.C. canon, and is considerably scarcer. However both books are equally scarce in high grade, with CSS 22 having the greater historical notoriety (due to its role in the Senate hearings). An 8.0 copy of VOH 12 sold last year for $3346, and it's quite possible the CSS 22 in 8.5 could go above that. There are so few documented sales on GPA of these books in high grade. A 9.0 Gaines copy of CSS 22 sold for $2358, but that was nine years ago. Lord knows what that copy would go for now.

There's a guy who is obsessed with this particular title. There was a thread about this in this forum a while back. Not easy to outbid him on this title. That's funny. Takes two to tango -- who on earth is bidding him up on these? Anyhoo I'd love it if he were the winner on a couple of that title I have, but I don't wish to sell 'em anyway. There was a bidding war all right...I assume the underbidder was equally keen but his interest did start to taper off with the final couple of books after having no luck. Other Atlas horror titles in mid grade from the same period go for a small fraction of those prices...

I was following those auctions and was somewhat surprised by the prices realized due to the back cover problems (browning, heavy foxing) that many of the books, including the two you mentioned, had.

Whatever number you have in mind, double it. This book's stock has never been higher, and I can't remember the last time I saw a high grade copy come up for sale. This. There are going to be a lot of people vying for this book because they don't know when another HG copy will come up for auction again. The silver lining could be that a huge realized price could bring other copies to the open market And the auction is still some way off...enough time to build up impetus...

I've got 20 - 30 long boxes of 50p / £1 comics, but I'm too lazy to take them to shows. You didn't have to we could smell them I think most people's spending habits have had to change. It's only a lucky few that can spend big on their hobby these days. That said I'm a big fan of the 50p/£1 boxes as you can pick up some good reads that you wouldn't have otherwise. If the price is right most comics will shift at a mart. Definitely. There are as many people turning up at the National as ever, so the traffic (and the turnover) is still decent.

I may add that I am looking to sell huge chunks of my collection, as well. I want to try and finance the purchase of one, or 2, major books and stream line my collecting focus to just a few books rather than 1000's. Just trying to figure out how best to go about it. I just don't have the time to individually sell on e-bay or scan every book etc Wouldn't the monthly London show be worth doing for this? As it's mostly the same sellers each month, wouldn't they be all over somebody new? I have actually considered this. Tables aren't that expensive either (£50 for a centre table, £55 for a wall table), although I can image business could be slow. I went every month for over a year a while back and unfortunately the stock levels werent great and the punters were few. I'd give it a try. If you've got cheap books, the punters (who are almost entirely bottom feeders) will definitely take an interest.

A Boy Commandos 25 in FA is $12.50, and in PR, $6.25 (or thereabouts, but that's how I calculate sub GD grades). So it's around $8 - $10.....

That's what I had in mind. Nick is right - there are only a small handful of cads here who get all uppity regarding the Brit quotient, but they are rather vocal.

I wasn't suggesting that we did, only that we could place a thread somehwere and use A monthly PM mailshot to inform everybody of where that sales thread is, whether here, Comicopolis, Ebay or anywhere else they want to put it.We could then, also, use that thread to deal in exclusives, for CGC UK boardies only deals. I'm happy with whatever the majority decides Well, from a purely selfish point of view I'd like to keep things on here - but that's because my work firewall blocks Comicopolis but not CGC! Why don't we give the PM thing a chance and see how it goes? If there's little action after a couple of months we can always drop it and move things to Comicopolis or elsewhere. In the meantime, I will reengage with Arch to see about a UK sellers' sub-forum - it sounds like there is a lot of interest in/support for that idea. I think a group PM would work, although there might have to be a limit as to how many sales there are per day. Alternatively we could all have our own individual PM sales threads that all the other Brit boardies are privy to.

Cool book with a nifty cover - I'd say it belongs here as it's post-code rather than pre-hero. I've usually resisted buying Atlas westerns, but it's been tough to do so.
