  1. 'Bout time somebody piped up and said that.....only a couple of hours ago I was reflecting about the hobby with a friend (who doesn't collect comics) both of us having just watched Comic Book Villains (an excellent flick, btw). After I attempted to explain the paramount importance of grading and undisclosed/undefined resto in the hobby to him, we both concluded that I was insane.
  2. EXACTLY the lunatic fringe I was referring to! There probably isn't enough time left in the day anyway after you're done stepping over cracks in the sidewalk, storing and cataloguing bottles of your own urine and feces, and all those required bi-hourly anus checks to make sure aliens haven't probed you yet. Gotta keep all those undesirable, invisible bad elements outta your life! I wasn't aware that slabbed books that may have been pressed could be that repugnant, but since you provide such a telling analogy, I guess you're right......
  3. It does. Shame about all those coinees, but what're you going to do?
  4. Paul Levitz just found me one. BRILLIANT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW!!! That's the one I thought you would NEVER find... primarily because I thought I had them all hoarded in my basement... damn that Satan. Just when you think you've cut a pretty sweet deal with him, he stabs you in the back AGAIN. You did a deal with Major Khaos? All hail the Dark Lord Khaos! Clark, you did a deal with the Prince Of Darkness (i.e. Major Khaos). The question is, is the Dark Lord a benign ruler of the Stygian Depths (i.e. The Water Khooler) or is his wrath mighty and endless? I only ask as I wouldn't want to offend the Great Naughty One when I come to ask for my box of Buzzy 70s.

  6. Belated kudos to Sterling Comics for a smooth and friendly transaction. Enjoy the book......
  7. Time for me to big up qualitycomix, who just sent me three cool books - 2 Silver Age, one G.A. Professional packing, service and grading, and a real gent as well. Thanks B!
  8. You're not South American !!!!!!!!!! South Hampstead more like. Your parents might have come from there, but you're as British as I am. Blimey, guv'. I dunno what you're talkin' abaht.
  9. Thanks Shad....speaking as a patriotic American I quite agree. Err, does SOUTH American count?
  10. Just a quick word of thanks to Bronty for the MS5 and the Ghost Rider 1 - fast shipping, good packing, good scans, books as described! Would do business again! Thanks, Dan.
  11. Yes, Eldritch is lazy. There hasn't been a new album since 1990's Vision Thing - which is a shame as he was always a witty and intelligent bloke with a great sense of irony. I thought Love and Rockets were okay (not as good as Bauhaus). Oingo Boingo doesn't ring any bells. Other Goth bands I remember having some decent songs would be The Birthday Party, Killing Joke (both not strictly speaking Goth), Fields Of The Nephilim, UK Decay and Southern Death Cult. Other bands who had a great act but not much in the way of musicianly quality would be Danse Society, The Virgin Prunes, and several others who were all pretty generic but looked interesting. Alien Sex Fiend were tripe. There were also Sisters copyists (Rosetta Stone) who swiped everything from them except good tunes. I liked Siouxsie at the time, along with the inevitable Bunnymen and Joy Division. Some of their music still plays well but I rarely listen to them these days. For some reason the Sisters' first two albums seem more timeless.
  12. Saw 'em a few times, a long time ago during the post-punk era. They were good. Do you like the Sisters Of Mercy? For a while a collected their stuff. LOVE the Sisters. Saw them tour with Public Enemy. Weird crowd. Gangsta Goth. Yeah, I remember that odd coupling - back in '91, I think it was (I was travelling across the U.S. at the time). Never got to see any of those gigs - would've been a very interesting clash of subcultures. The Sisters (especially the Eldritch/Hussey/Marx/Adams line-up) were my favorite band of that era. Their music still holds up very well while most of their contemporaries doesn't, particularly.
