Yes I agree but I thought it would be a fun task. So I will preface this by saying these are my “current” top five. My choices are based on color, composition and subject matter.

    5. Mystery Tales #14

Everett does a fantastic detailed job on this Gypsy woman with her intricate clothing and wrinkled face. The man’s a bit more cartoonish but has that pure expression of fear as the skeletons break loose to attack!IMG_3178.jpeg.f2c3bd8de9babd0f486be15f4ce66e5b.jpeg

    4. Menace #11

Harry Anderson creates a tense and fearful unique perspective with this closeup cover. That guy’s neck or back is clearly snapped as the door is simultaneously being locked. Talk about multitasking!IMG_3177.jpeg.7a390c93d9365554659c889798598f97.jpeg

    3. Spellbound #17

Bill Everett again does a stunning rendition of a girl returning? to the grave. The stark blacks and whites make this cover pop. The chorus of skeletons in the background add to the eeriness. Another boarded once mentioned the large size of Everett’s sig on this one, signed large as if he was very proud of it.IMG_3182.jpeg.78349610d505dadb63a903ca467b0a74.jpeg

    2. Spellbound #14

Another Everett and another Spellbound, but this crazy cover is firing on all cylinders! First, the colors are just fantastic. The layout works nicely by drawing your eye in a zig-zag from background to foreground and vice verse. And then there’s Mr. Smiley with the ascot!IMG_3181.jpeg.5231f778a35de2b1303bb5956e7ce694.jpeg

    1. Venus #19

Maybe no surprise here but this cover hits it all with the ghostly trio, damsel in distress and a mask wearing skeleton! Beautifully composed and a classic!IMG_3186.jpeg.60ce045e0809ba1b6b7f4c5adb0a1474.jpeg

Great choices. As an Atlas completist I'd say it's more than hard to pick five with so many great covers, but at least three of those would be hard for me to leave out.

Other candidates for me would be Mystery Tales 19, Astonishing 12, Strange Tales 28, Adventures into Weird Worlds 16, Menace 1 & 5, Venus 18, Marvel Tales 93, 95 and 130.
