It's can't be THAT hard to look at.  I mean it's Jack Kirby inked by Neal Adams - it's not often you get to see two living legends work on the same cover and have the interiors contain the first appearance of comics' longest running independet character.

    Ohh, but it is.

  4. To add my 2 cents to this thread - When I started collecting, Amazing Spidey #300 was a holy grail among me and my friends. I never thought I'd own one until I got a job in high school and saved the extra dollars. Come 1995 and the comic bust was just starting, I snagged my copy in what I thought was extremely NM+ for $100. I was pretty giddy about finally owning it.  I eventually got it graded and I can now say I own a 9.6.  So I never felt worried about the price of this one particular issue because I always knew it was a keeper and even bought a few extra at discounted prices during the late 90s and early 00s.  However, the prices it fetches today are mind-boggling. But yeah, great comic.

I have more faith in UF4 hitting $10K than ASM300.  Not saying it will happen...just saying if I had to make a bet on one or the other.

***Add UXM 129 to that race

I didn't realize it was an either-or but yeah, UF4 is a MONSTER. I knew it was going to be when it first came out and I bought a 9.8 copy at $150ish dollars online. It was obvious to anyone paying attention what was going to happen.  My only regret is not buying the variant.

Wizard #60 mentioned the book in their magazine around August 1996 which is why you start to see a jump in subscription numbers. But looking at this minuscule print run for issue 6 I would tend to believe the earlier issues were well below the 5000 print run. Possibly even below the 2500 numbers. (shrug)

*CBG shows CapCity orders for issue #8 at 2,400 - I have a feeling that your 2,321 figure for issue #6 is a CapCity order number as well, which would put the print run at probably triple that

  6. Scud #1 FN has 17 watchers @ $100 & a 9.8 has 20 watchers @ $1,895.  (shrug)

If it's money you want, the series appears to have fans willing to pay.  If it's a storyline you want, you will not find much better. If it's an independent comic publisher #1 you're seeking, Fireman press fits the bill.

But I know, you're saying, "whetteon, I want interesting, unique, one of a kind covers".

    image.thumb.jpeg.faec378499fb7234d97321272b7b1fc8.jpeg

    How cool is that?

But you say, "whetteon. I want a comic that has something done 1st here"

    image.thumb.jpeg.ead271655b01d922c032dc4808a13c71.jpeg

    1st action figure cover!!!

"yeah, but I need absolutely hard to find variant covers so I can show off and know the other comic nerds will never have what I gots"

    image.thumb.jpeg.acc6834d15adc74562d9d836eb612cdc.jpeg

    Limited to 250 copies.

"But whetteon, I don't want a collection that is too big and I can never buy all the issues"

    It's only 24 issues.

    But still crickets huh? :wavingwhiteflag:

This book I shipped out in Sept 2021 returned to me yesterday.

Amazing Spider-Man 238 first went on sale Dec 1982 during the waning days of my personal childhood "newsstand era" so my 1st childhood copy is rough shape. Early in 1984 while at my LCS I read in some publication the name of which I no longer recall that ASM 238 was poised to go up in value. The cover of the book they pictured in Black and White was the Direct Sale version. I thought the direct sale 238 looked extra cool with the Spidey face in lieu of the UPC and I made my way to the back issue section. There were 3 copies. One was missing the Tatooz,  I picked the nicest of the remaining 2 and paid the .75 cents which at the time was the price of most new Marvel and DC's

This exact copy of this book represents several 1st's for me.

    1) First back issue I ever purchased as an upgrade to a book I already owned.
    2) First 1980's or newer book I've ever submitted to CGC that I knew would never be a 9.8
    3) First book I've submitted to CGC which I've ever had pressed - the 21 year streak endeth.
    4) First "special" CGC label in my collection as I'm really not fan of them.

I graded this as VF/NM in the 1990's as noted in my spreadsheet, and before I submitted i figured a 9.2 as is.  There was a light non-color breaking finger type indention likley from when the Shop owner (Thanks Ken!) originally bagged it.  Due to some spine dings that go through from front to back it would never be a 9.6, but I figured nicely displaying 9.4 if pressed was very plausible, and was correct.   I also knew it was not going to get White Pages. The front of shop I purchased it back in 1984 had a southern exposure and the sun shined directly on the back issue section specifically the lower letters in the alphabet (Thanks again Ken!)

I'm thrilled to have my childhood 238 back CGC, finally! Regardless of the going rate of the newsstand edition, I greatly prefer the direct sale version of this book!

I had a comic ship out a few weeks ago, at this rate maybe 2024 is too early to expect it back? :wavingwhiteflag:

    Dammit Ken.
