  1. Actually, that IS from a government website.
  2. WAIT A MINUTE! Hmmmm This isn't a government site...maybe it's not legit but... Actually, it IS...
  3. As I said before, thanks for the clarification. It's appreciated. But I don't deal in Media Mail soooo....maybe it's really helped someone else out.
  4. If you (people in general, not YOU) think the average postal employee is going to give enough of a flyin' baby-making maneuver to spend more than two neurons on the validity of advertisements based on age...then you're out of your gourd my friend. The reality is that the post master would tell you to eff yourself over the extra 7 or 8 dollar charge...then he would spend his lunch hour laughing and talking about you. Sure, take him to court...how much are you really willing to pay for the principle of the matter? Or...spend hours on the phone trying to work it out. As for me, more worthwhile things await...like sitting back in a lawn chair downing a beer...or going to the dentist...
  5. You're correct on all accounts, but my point is...pick your battles; it's not worth the 'n headache. And yes, if I go to the city post office, I'll be waiting in line for at least an hour. If I go to the country, it will be a 25 minute trip. Maybe you're lucky, but it seems like the postal employees around here are trained to take as much time as humanly possible. I've seen one employee work a line of 15 customers with the other 4 windows empty. The maddening thing is that he took extra time to talk in detail about services that weren't being requested by the customer. I think he was taking pleasure in making everyone angry. It was ridiculous. I'd rather go to the dentist. ...and when is the last time you've tried getting someone on the phone? lol If you want to play lawyer with the postmaster, go for it. I'd rather avoid the deal by avoiding media mail. We can agree that it's not the best option for any comic. They are, indeed, abused more than average.
  6. Yeah..he should totally go. Then he can hit up the other Great Escape while he's at it. Would be a fun trip. Shouldn't take him long if he hits the bypass during non-peak hours.
  7. EDIT: Sorry, I just saw your caveat about back issues. You'll want to avoid Rick and Comix City, in that case.
  8. Honestly, I'd say McKays is probably worth a drive AND...while you're at it, you can visit the Great Escapes West Side location! McKays is simply massive. Comics are NOT their only focus. They have every sort of media you can imagine. If you're into cool stuff, just hop on the bypass (840 W) and take the White Bridge Road exit. You can knock them both out...could easily spend all day.
  9. That's my neck of the woods. Great Escape is usually pretty fun. Other than that, you can drive a little bit further out to Ricks Comic City on Old Lebanon Road. If you're willing to drive to other parts of the city, you can try McKays Books on Old Hickory Blvd, but that's on the west side of town. Comix City Too in Madison. There are other cool shops, but some of them are a 20 or 30 minute drive from East Nashville. Make sure to have pizza at 5 Points Pizza while you're in east Nashville. Can you tell I'm hungry? Have fun!
  10. I don't know about the OP but, yes, that's what happened to me. Until I caught the problem and brought it to their attention. Then it was rectified.
  11. The same thing happened to me when I recently sent a comic worth several thousand dollars to get a new holder. I declared the full amount. When it was received, the value amount showed up exactly as I declared. A few days later, it was mysteriously changed to a mere $200 - a very small percentage of the total value of the book. I called them to correct the issue, and it was changed back to the full amount. They offered no explanation, but two separate employees, on two separate days, said, "That's weird." Combined with your story, I suppose I'd advise people sending in high-value reholders to keep a careful eye on it. I'm not sure what's going on with that.
  12. Some of you may know that I happen to own quite a few Spawn books, but my latest acquisition ranks among my very favorite. While we may as well devote an entire thread to the genius of Ash Gonzalez, please allow me to share this with all of you... I couldn't be happier. Scans and photographs don't do it justice. It really does have to be seen in-hand to be truly appreciated. I'm just stunned and blown away and very happy that ivdyer was willing to facilitate the process. Thanks for the hookup Charles! Between this and the Philip Tan sketch from last year, I am now beyond satisfied with my Spawn 265 Partial Blank Variant set. I can now sleep at night. lol But Ash is way cool, super easy to deal with, fast, and way, way cheaper than he should be. Just don't let him know. I have a feeling I'm going to be sending a lot of work his way.
  13. Good to know. I was told differently. I'm not exactly sure that they will be checking the date on the comics if they open up a package. Also, from experience, the post master can pretty much do whatever the he or she wants, and the action is usually taken before the customer has a chance to pull out the DMM. The USPS does NOT operate like Burger King - it's not your way right way. The customer is never right! For example, if someone sends me comics via Media Mail and they get "caught," then I am probably going to have to pay up before I get my books, no matter what the manual may say. At best, I would have to stand there for 2 or 3 hours (yes, this is very likely) arguing my point...and I'll probably have to pay anyway. lol Best way to avoid this is to avoid media mail. I won't do comic business with anyone who uses media mail and I would never request it in a million years. Thanks for the information.
  14. No big deal man. Welcome to the boards! Lots of cool stuff always for sale.
  15. The person who had the book signed should be placed in jail.
  16. Absolutely not. Completely unacceptable for a book of that value. In fact, comics don't qualify for media mail. If the post office catches it, then the person slated to receive the item is on the hook for the extra shipping charges that the seller should have paid in the first place. I've personally seen people get shafted at the post office when they came in to pick up a package.
  17. If everyone haggled publicly in the sales threads, things would get really sloppy. Besides, if you're competing against other potential buyers, why would you want everyone to see the sort of cards you're holding? The way it usually works: 1. Buyer presents his/her offer via PM. 2. Negotiations occur in private. 3. A deal is reached. 4. Buyer posts something like: via PM. The danger with PM negotiations, of course, is the risk that someone else will beat you to the punch in the public sales thread by agreeing to purchase the book for the listed sales price. Many sellers have specific rules that outline how these things will be dealt with. Some people do it by timestamp. Other people treat the first in the sales thread as king.
  18. It doesn't have to be. It's not in the guidelines. It's not a rule, but offers are generally entertained via PM for reasons of privacy, confidentiality, and clarity. I just thought the post was funny because of the presumptive use of the icon. You only throw up the icon once the terms of a deal/offer have already been established and confirmed. While the rules don't prohibit public bargaining in sales threads, the practice is generally frowned upon.
  19. I thought engineers made mad money? You said you were already selling some books to fund the purchase of others...that was my first piece of advice. You also mentioned lowering your expectations of grade. I think that's a good idea. Low-grade silver is still megacool and fairly affordable. We're riding a tremendous bubble in the comic market. You are correct - the price of keys are getting out of hand. Perhaps we'll see another market correction in the near future? Of course, all of those ideas are discussed in separate thread. So, besides selling stuff to fund other purchases, and lowering your expectations when it comes to grades, there really aren't too many other realistic options, other than quitting the hobby or finding more ways to fund the hobby. But, in all fairness, I've yet to find a hobby that was cheap. :) Good luck with the collection!
  20. Thanks for all of your responses! I wasn't planning on buying the book. I just saw the auction and was curious about the distributor ink.
