Interesting cover graphics! Black and white with the title and storyline graphics almost in the mode of a confidential or national police gazette or spy stories or that type of magazine.  Splendid copies as usual

Death Is No Lady - M.E. Corne (1945.Black Knight Mysteries 26) cover

Defo not the best copy color-wise, but I noticed this cover in one of SA's sales and picked up a cheap copy.  I can't find anything on the author (outside of another 1943 mystery paperback).
An interesting run with no real powerhouse authors but with some interesting cover designs.
Warren has #15 through #34 running 1946-1948, and the late ones seem pretty scarce according to Worthpoint.
Publisher listed Ideal Publishing Company in NY, 480 Lexington which was Grand Central Palace and housed National (D.C.) on the 9th floor and many below. Hard to get a feel for what comics and magazine publishers were responsible for some of these lines, but I'll figure it out sooner or later.
Examples of some other covers in the first part of the series:

The Out is Death - Peter Rabe (1957.Gold Medal Book 667) cover Mitchell Hooks PBO

Such a skinny pb, and I love that about the skinny ones, inviting to sit down and read and just as inviting to keep on to the end.

I had that tee'd up on my phone. An absolute steal that I regret more and more not pressing the button on.
Goes under the husband/wife conversation category of  "i'd rather ask for forgiveness than permission"

Dian Hanson used this one for the cover of her first volume (or maybe a later volume) of The History of Men's Magazines.

I think that’s been debated to death and the conclusion is that’s a made-up contention. It seems to all derive from one said contrary social media post with absolutely no mention previously. There’s someone on social media offering $1,000 to anyone who will show them any reference like a dictionary or encyclopedia, or even a book, from the old days that mentions that. And supposedly Val Kilmer and others have confirmed that it’s “huckleberry.”
