  1. My guess is Bill Everett ( Hence the Thank you Bill in my previous post.) I was posting at the same time as you! Oopps. Hey Tim, it's Bill Everett.
  2. My guess is Bill Everett ( Hence the Thank you Bill in my previous post.) I was posting at the same time as you!
  3. I think that may be the first time FC 9 has been posted on these boards!
  4. As long as they don't like them enough to start bidding on HG copies, then we'll all be just fine!
  5. Michael, are these scans from the original comics? They look so vibrant and intense, like they're from glossy page reprints rather than newsprint pages! Keep it up!
  6. Good one! I would have put this in the proper thread, but I didn't want to bump that piece of garbage. Raven and Hobgoblin both live in some bizarro world where "everything is as real and valuable as I want it to be!" I need to move there. I can live in my eleventy billion dollar house while admiring my original copy of the Constitution and Canterbury Tales first edition. Andy, you scared the hell out of me for a second! I was wondering what brainfart would have caused me to post a reply to raven in this ducks thread
  7. I was really tempted to put up a photo of a roasted duck hanging in the windowfront of a traditional Cantonese restaurant, but I refrained.
  8. Nothing wrong with any Duck book by Don Rosa! I'm still amazed that there could ever be a worthy successor Carl Barks, but Rosa fully deserves all his accolades. In fact, I would say he has not received nearly enough recognition. I need to do a better job of filling the holes in my Rosa books. Here's a Dell Giant from 1958. My experience has been that the thicker cardboard stock covers made these books come out either in ultra-HG or really low grade, because the effect of any crease is so severe.
  9. And without further ado, here it is (the faint white line running down the right side is a scratch on the plastic, not the book!):
  10. Wow! Thanks Shield, that was a fun read!
  11. I hadn't realized that surfing was already a mainstream activity back in 1937. That gorgeous book is almost 70 years old now...
  12. We'll find out in May, after the Heritage auction. Lots of nice GA in there.
  13. Sounds like a pretty miserable family life. Henry and Alice Mitchell were undoubtedly Hank's projection of what ideal parents should be like, which he sadly could not live up to. I'm particularly struck by the statement "his father's work schedule left little time for his son". What a crock! HK was doing 6 one-panel comic strips a week, and using assistants once he got established! Like many creative talents, he was brilliant at entertaining an audience but a pretty lousy human being.
  14. That reminds me, I'll bring in my copy of FC #147 (the original Volcano Alley) to scan and post here.
  15. Just awaiting for the arrival of some gorgeous Tarzans that I just purchased from John Hauser, and then I'll have some contributions for this thread and the Ten Cent thread in the SA forum.
  16. I think Fred Toole is getting some real short shrift amongst all the Al Wiseman adulation here. Much as I love Wiseman's art, if the stories sucked or were even just nondescript I don't think most of us would still think so highly of the book or recall so many of the stories so vividly. So my true response to the poll would have been comics that featured both Wiseman and Toole, because in my opinion what made the comic so great was the efforts of the combined team.
  17. Kudos to Comicbookguy/Joe also, for a bunch of great reader Dennis the Menace's, which turned out to be too nice to be readers!
  18. Darn it, that would've been my first guess!
  19. We know why COI isn't posting these days. Has Murph posted at all since the argument over FFB's Sgt Fury's? FF has also virtually disappeared. He's not on the list, but what happened to Blowout?
