  1. This is kinda a cool item. An actual Archie postmark
  2. Last one for today--one of the best Timely humor covers IMO.
  3. I'm not sure what Patsy is doing in Riverdale
  4. Very nice--I'm jealous of the Nellie #1 Still need that and a Tessie #1
  5. I've never read Tillie, but Tessie (as well as most of the other Timely titles) is pretty good. The real problem with My Friend Irma (and later My Girl Pearl) is that the only joke is that Irma is amazingly stupid. And it's repeated over and over and over and...you get the idea. The other Timely titles are much more readable.
  6. This title featured some of Dan DeCarlo's best work, but was virtually unreadable
  7. This one continues the numbering of Human Torch
  8. I was PMing with adamstrange and he suggested this thread. With the approach of the completion of my Archie collection, I've started acquiring non-Archie teen humor titles over the last few years. I will start us off with some first issues (only 2 of which are actually #1s). Please add more! This book is the continuation of All Winners
  9. Very nice Archies The Laugh cover is very suggestive
  10. Just a bit over 20 years. It started as collecting MLJs (around 1985), but soon morphed into Archie titles as well. More recently, I decided to really narrow my focus to just Archie (1941-1971) and sold a number of other titles to finance the big Archie books I still needed (eg Pep 22, Jackpot 4). Of course, I still do occasionally buy books I don't "need." It's just soooo hard to resist sometimes... Scrooge, you seem to be doing well on your set. Let me know if there are any Archie books you still need.
  11. For me, I think there will always be more to collect. When I finally finish my Archie comic book collection (estimating 2-3 years from now), I'm sure I will start on another area. Also, since I collect original Archie art and other comic strip art, I will never truly be finished. And of course, there's all the Archie upgrades I need... Jon's collection just staggers the mind. I suspect he's one of the very few generalist collectors that could be close to "satisfied" with the breadth and quality of his collection. I mean, I've owned Larsons and I've owned Churchs, but I've never owned both pedigrees of a single book
  12. Very nice--one of my (and probably everyone else's) favorite Cap covers
  13. Kudos to Byron of TVComics for selling me the original art to one of my very favorite Archie covers: Sent quickly and securely packaged
  14. I looked at this page before I looked at your post and thought, that's just the like the pacing and storytelling of John Stanley. Then I read your write-up and understood why. Actually, this page is a reprint of a Sunday strip (probably late '40s vintage by the look of the art) and is by Bushmiller. Stanley didn't work on Nancy until significantly later. The Bushmiller work on Fritzi and Nancy was excellent during the '30s and '40s, but deteriorated rapidly thereafter to the point where the '60s and later strips are all but unreadable. I would encourage anyone who has an interest in comic strip art to pick up a few of the early issues of Comics on Parade that are devoted to Nancy and Fritzi (eg #32, 35, 38) they are very enjoyable Thanks for the info! So Stanley may have learned from Bushmiller? Or am I just imagining a similarity? Good question and I don't know the answer Bushmiller certainly predates Stanley, but whether or not he was an influence...
