Grail acquired! I am stoooookkkkked.
The original owner wrote his name on the cover, but if you have to have some random kid's signature on your comics, this isn't a bad one to have:
Note: That's me holding the book, not Denis Kitchen.

I'm going to post this in every thread I can think of.

Man, I had a bunch of real doozies, but I guess I got rid of most of them at some point because I couldn't find them to post.
But I did manage to dig up a couple winners.

This is by the same guy who does those pamphlets showing you what to do if your airplane crashes, right?

Went dollar bin diving at Granitecon yesterday and came out with these, each from a different dealer:
And these probably aren't nearly as exciting to anyone else, but I don't think I've ever actually found issues of these titles in the wild before:

Went to a church book sale today. All the comics sold before we got there unfortunately, but they had some cool stuff buried in the piles.
Included is one of the odder things I've come across. This is a set of competitive choose your own adventure Marvel RPG books put out by TSR in 1986. From what I gather, one players reads a book where they are Dr. Doom while a second player reads a book where they are the Fantastic Four. They each read through their own choose your own adventure stories, but somehow at certain moments the books intersect - I'm not sure how - and the players battle each other using charts in the books.
I've never heard of competitive reading before. Too weird!
I also picked up these classics from the same sale:

I was wondering why Joe SInnott signed your ASM 177 but then I noticed the CGC label. I never knew Joe inked that cover, or really any ASM work (I do see him listed on a couple of credits on one site). Guess you still can learn something every day.
I like how the guy is pointing at Joe Sinnott's signature.
"How are we going to stop... HIM?! JOE SINNOTT?!"

Coming up in two months, courtesy of Walt Simonson himself:
The story inside is also written by former long-time Thor writer Tom DeFalco.

I like the variants they are doing, mainly because they aren't incentives. You can order either. I have my LCS order me variants only, because the regular covers are just typical Archie (not that there's anything wrong with that) but the variants are a lot more adventurous.
I love this new variant cover, for Archie #646:

I just picked up a copy of Tec 359 (Tongie Farms). There was a pretty wicked sub crease, almost as if it was folded in half and put in someone's back pocket and maybe it was.Well, that's what sub creases are, as comic subscriptions used to be mailed folded completely in half.
One of our fellow boardies recently posted his photo of some comics he has still in their original subscription envelopes.

Just picked this up today to go with my Italian version

@Crimebuster - Will you actually buy one? I think they're going for $14.99 or so. The Midtown Comics Nei Ruffino Virgin cover is going for $100.00. In six months it will probably be hard to get regular cover price for any of them, but people will chase them. Supposedly they've sold out of the entire 1st print run of 35,000. So there should only be 350 1:100 covers. That one may hold some value, but this Phantom one does nothing for me, and is completely out of character with the Red Sonja I know.
No, I don't buy variants. Maybe if there was some amazing cover I just had to have, but for the most part I buy to read. I think the variant craze is goofy. No offense to anyone who collects them, it just seems like a gimmick, especially since it is frustrating to see a cool cover you want and then be asked to shell out some ridiculous premium for it because of artificial rarity.
If this were a case where all the variants were the same price, I might consider buying it, depending on what other covers were available, but I would probably just buy one copy to read.

Hi
Can you explain what kind of art it is ?
I must be way out of the loop on this
Your first instinct was right, it is inspired by Japanese anime and manga. It's not quite full-on chibi, but it's in the same ballpark.
If you google image "chibi" - with your filters on, of course, because things can get pretty weird in Japan - you'll see what I mean.

Just found this. Red Sonja #1 Phantom Variant. I think it's the 9th or 10th variant for this issue. Is this what the "She Devil With A Sword" has been reduced to? Thoughts?
I think this cover is cool. I don't like books with billions of variants as a rule, though. Variants are a cheesy gimmick at best. But within that context, I like this cover as much or more than many of the other variants.

The Pay It Forward thread over in the General Forum continues to provide some great books to people. I just received this awesome lot of mostly Bronze Age first appearance and #1 issues from a generous boardie:
-
I just picked up this lot off ebay, which includes the first three DC issues of Young Romance. Pretty excited.

Speculators are crazy for Groot
Speculators are crazy, we can agree there. You can get a Strange Tales #110 in pretty much the same condition for that price. And besides being infinitely more important and popular than Groot, Dr. Strange is also getting his own movie. So...?
-
Tales to Astonish #13 @ $371+ & 15 bids. 1st Groot?
Good gosh, that TTA#13 went for over $800.
What the heck?

Working on getting an Archie #61 to go with the #60 and #62 here.
