Now, though, I'll take pictures of ANY SIGNATURES on books BEFORE I send them in (7 Dave Stevens books, Journey 1-11 and Fish Police 1-7 come to mind), and use those images, with the Comic Details, as part of the 'Owner's Description.' I grew up buying comics in Jamaica, Briarwood, Kew Gardens and Forest Hills. I bought comics here and there from 74 - 78, but didn't take collecting seriously until 1979, when I was ten. I may be one of those Marvel Guys referred to by SW3D, but that doesn't mean I don't like DC stuff. I'm just far more partial to The Marvel Universe storylines than the DC ones. But it really doesn't matter what your interests are, as long as you are collecting and enjoying what you are into. And we here on the registry love it when people get on the journals and talk incessantly about their interests and their collections and acquisitions. As TNerb said, it would be great to see some of your issues on the journals and get an idea of what you've submitted so far to CGC. Again, welcome to Club Addiction and may your comics always come back better than you expect!!! But seriously, the Journals and it's community welcome all sorts of collectors bringing their wealth of knowledge and passions to share. We love to know what you collect, why you collect, what your collecting goals and ambitions are, and especially love to read things about how collecting is the make-up of your soul as it is for all of us (that's a constant reassurance we're not the only one's doing this). > Thanks, folks.. thanks ALOT. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>... (What? ...no writing is allowed on either the cover or interior pages? This is what concerns me most. My books may be locked out of their true/higher grades. - ks) > Cover inks are exceptionally bright with high gloss. The > books corners are perfectly square and sharp. Interior > pages must me white in color and supple to the touch. Okay, sports fans, so I had t' call CGC on this one.... ...spoke w/ CGC, this morning on this 'no writing' thing.. ..about ink/pen writing on the IBC and on interior pages.... specifically, I asked about an X-Stamper date stamp, with day/month and RECD or YEAR in ink on interior pages as well. The CGC CS Rep., she put me on hold, and confirmed that it would, unless/otherwise on the IBC, but not on interior pages. So, interior pages are okay, but IBC is not, for ink/pen writing. Date stamp is okay on 1st page (tech- nically p3). So, will some of mine BE EXCLUDED, due to 'ks code' on the inside back covers?? In my case, it was first page date stamp for newsstand (File) copies, and some kind of ks code, sometimes with the date stamp, and sometimes neither. Even then, I was aware that writing, as pressed as I do, would detract from the book. Therefore, I DO recall writing on the IBC, in pen I am fairly certain, but not in all cases, sometimes there was nowhere else to write as lightly as possible (in border, lower right, or upper left if there was no room). For example, I wrote "ks/ds" on the lower-right, I think, of the IBC of Dave Sheridan's 1st Plymell printing of Zap #1, but no X-Stamper REC'D date. The date stamp was for tracking the "rec'd. date" as the comic books were being released, and as I was buying them as they hit the stands.. of Comics & Comix, in Berkeley, and The Best of Two Worlds, also in Berkeley, but BEFORE COMIC RELIEF. Then, I was buying 4 mil mylar snugs, Silver size, with cut-down Golden or Magazine size acidfree/backing boards, in Acid Free Boxes, and putting THESE COMICS into them. In past few days, I remebered how I would tuck them under my shirt when it rained; they were in paper bags! Some of these books made it through the rain, by bicycle delivery, and by brown bag, never mind the 2-D 3-D Alien Terror #1 (Cert. # 0190247001), which came via USPS from Eclipse HQ. *** I was holding an encased book today, and just marvelled at it, thinking.. 'I couldn't have imagined this little jeweled case.. [when I was buying these books thirty years ago]; It REALLY is marvellous; ..what a gem this thing is.... (I just wanted to hold it and look at it) I was mesmerised.... (It's such a beautiful thing, a cased book is.) (I can confirm that this WAS far from my mind, but "framing" these comics was not.) ...Grades and Pops.? That's a different story. Now, we have added Dimensions.... Thanks to CGC. The thing that gets me thinking now is the cert.# does what my ks code was intended to do: link them to my ownership and, I guess, just be specific books to me.. ...like I said added Dimensions. I cannot imagine where these will go! StarDate: twenty-seven, eleven,twenty_ thirteen, seven Starship: Starbucks, Mariposa, Bryant can't out To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. 23. ...into The Best of Two Worlds. THIS IS A SIMPLE SHARE: One evening in Berkeley long ago, I walked the tunnel to the inner sanctuum of The Best of Two Worlds. Rory was working that night; I said something like "Hey. What's Up?", or "How's it goin'?", and it wasn't long before I saw this SPACED #1 up on the wall. I immediately said, "Can I look at that...?", knowing full well that I would buy it, and I did. Rory was glad to see it forwarded, f'r sure! I had been hunting this one down and by issue #5 (i.e., years), I found ONE with Rory. Now, I think it was 75$. I didn't care; it was SO hard to find (i.e., unconfirmed +/- 1500 or 850 copies?? - cant), BUT, for ME & THIS HERE, there's usually one of these, when I got the book home, & took a look & opened it up I found THREE COVERS! Holy Smokes! She's a Keeper. (UA! This one's been corner-stoned!) To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
  24. Seduction Of The Innocent 3-D #2, Eclipse Comics, 4/86, Special Edition, #55/100 ...one of a kind.. so far. This book is.. the only cgc'd, the Special Edition: (Printed in black and white for color blind readers). I bought this from Eclipse Comics Publisher, Cat Yronwoode, at the time; it came through the mail via USPS ("It's a MIRACLE!"). This one graded 9.6, and it is #55/100.... ...with a Wrightson cover? (I had a nightmare like that, BUT the ANCHOR was on my FEET. ...a sinking, trailing camera, attached above.)(I snapped to!) Plus, it's a 2-D 3-D comic! ...gotta love that. 25. 5 out of 10 is really good. Ultimately, five out of ten is REALLY good. I was pleasantly surprised to find this submission of mine, in which grades, that is, 2 - 9.4s, 3 - 9.6s, and 5 - 9.8s, is.. really good, I think. !Sheesh! I bought these when I was just twenty-one! (NOPE. ...was not at a bar.) and now, well.. you do the math. That was 84. By far, this was my favorite Judge Dredd cover no word ballons, has a black cover, no Judge Dredd, himself, on the cover, BUT a girl possessed by an evil-evil spirit: Judge Anderson, and the ghost of Judge Death (^that evil-evil spirit) to ring in The Cowboy Ronnie Round-Up 2, and the real 1984 (perfect) The 1984 APPLE MACINTOSH ad was weeks away.), and the story, the story and the pin-ups, and the full page drawings, and the two-page center-spread illustration. I thought this comic book had alot going for it. AND NOW. Now, here comes THE JUDGE DREDD MOVIE, with what looks like.. JUDGE ANDERSON prominently featured. (This is the kind of good news I could really use, after all.) RORY? I hope you are having fun! To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
