  1. Does anyone know what goody is buried in this otherwise obscure 50's issue of Esquire?
  2. Well, swipe or not.. why the heck are those Gangbusters pilots wearing those weird goggles?
  3. Yup, Angel. One of comics' all-time most perfectly best realized characters. And that spread is ridonkulous, thanks for posting!
  4. This is possibly the most disturbing comic cover of all time.
  5. Yeah, and I don't think for one minute the kids bought the idea that comics were "bad". I imagine they were bent over double by wanting to be "good kids" and loving those books that ended up on the bonfires.
  6. Snips, snails, puppy dog's tails, that's what comic books are made of.
  7. 10 to 1 those kids thought their comics were "neato".
  8. Especially since the photos are proudly hosted on photo bucket!
  9. This is absolutely delicious. Kudos kid on your "I'll send your bill later suckers" - it's actually pretty perfect as dialog graffitti.
  10. So after 200+ pages, what's the answer to the original question. What ARE the rarest romance comics?

  15. Picked up the first year (1957) of On Stage by Leonard Starr. Sort of romance - definitely soap opera. Thought I'd post a few strips here, just for you romantic types. First Sunday: Secretary's knowing look in second last panel is just perfect! Tears, overcoats and walking across the tarmac in a snowfall. Beautiful 1950's style heartbreak.
  16. Yes! It's a terrific movie, rich in atmosphere and beautifully directed by Val Guest (Day the Earth Caught Fire, Quatermass Experiment etc.). Of course, this is the definitive abominable snowman.
  17. 1951 post-Eisner Spirit section. And on the back, a Clifford by Eugene Bilbrew, who took over the strip after Jules Feiffer was drafted. Bilbrew is best known for his fetish art for sleazy pulps of the era. Here's an interesting article about Bilbrew: A long-lost artist of the 1950's sexual underground
  18. Seriously? Peter the Little Pest #1 on fire at Heritage
  19. Always like to see what you're adding to your pretty amazing collection. Where are you getting all these - eBay?
  20. That is a beautifully white Cap 111. I'm still looking for one that dazzling.
  21. Wolverine180’s avatar rang a bell, as I just picked up that 1953 Sunday strip recently. And since I’m posting, here’s my favorite Sunday from that year, with a really beautiful logo panel:
