  1. Thanks, I got it, just took me about five times of re-editing it Now let's do some more.
  2. Hi guys, I've been here for a long time but haven't participated that much since I have been too much of an insufficiently_thoughtful_person to post any scans. Well, I finally figured it out. So for practice I'll throw on five cool books that may or may not already be somewhere else on this thread. web page
  3. No really, I'm not putting down pedigreed books. But to me they are just regular books. I guess I just don't "count" the pedigree as meaning anything. Seriously, what do some people see in a pedigree? Why is a pedigreed book a good thing? Would you pay more for a book because it is pedigreed? I just don't understand this part of the hobby. Somebody, please enlighten me. I am referring to cases where you have two identical books, same gloss, condition, QP and all, why is the pedigree better? ------Sid
  4. Excuse me if I sound naive or if I'm missing something, but personally I don't give one [!@#%^&^] damn about any pedigree book and I just don't see why some other people do. Take a typical 9.4 white pages book, and then your 9.4 white pedigree book. What's the difference? Who cares? Or I should say, why should you care? Yeah, I know some pedigrees are known for great gloss or something, but many "regular" books have that as well. Of all the pedigrees I have even heard about, there is only one instance where I would prefer the pedigreed book over another equal book. All other pedigrees to me are useless. The one I am referring to are the EC Gaines File Copies. And this is really just because each was handled, graded and ranked by the big three and includes a certificate stating such. Other than that one, I just couldn't care less. ------Sid
  5. You and me both G. It seems almost a waste considering how much we like them all.
  6. Just wondering, do you guys display your favorite cover books on a wall or anywhere that you will see them frequently? Or do they just sit in a box and never get looked at until it is time to sell? Or just what do you do with your high grade keepers whose covers you adore? Not talkin' about the "readers" that may be sitting on top of the toilet or on the coffee table or just hangin' around. I don't have any of mine displayed right now. Actually I am just starting to appreciate some of the books I already have after seeing the scans of some of my same books on this thread. It just got me thinkin', with the covers that we all like so much, how do we appreciate their beauty on a daily basis, if at all. ------Sid
  7. I actually have to agree with BOC (for once) that Shiver, Sterling and a few others have really turned me on to these great books as well. You guys are making it harder on yoursleves to find these books as you've given yourslef more competition. Sorry. But I have to admit, I was an easy convert.------Sid
  8. Actually I haven't been to many cons--I've been in Chicago for the last seven months. Charlotte isn't exactly a "high profile" con event. I look forward to meeting you at one of these in the future. When is the next Chicago event?. My wife loves the Cubs so it can be a glorious event. I can see it now... "Wow --great looking HOM 203 cover." "Uh sir, I saw that first. It's mine." "Nope-no way. I saw it first..." Greggy, shouldn't you be checking your CGC grades... I just made my reservations for the Wizard Chicago con a few days ago. This year it is August 13th-15th. You can get info and make reservations at www.wizarduniverse.com although I booked my hotel and air through hotels.com. -----Sid
  9. Just stay away from the BINs at the Charlotte Comic-Con---they will be raided first thing Friday morning Sterling, I won't be at that one but I'll fight ya' for box-front real estate at San Diego and Chicago if you are there. ----Sid
  10. Thanks for posting all the cool covers guys. I have a new strategy now. I'm not looking up individual issues anymore on Ebay, and I don't really have a "want list" as it would just be too hard to complete. I'm not really a completist anyway so that's no big deal. My new strategy is to simply raid all the DC Horror bins at conventions and buy all the VF+ and up books (with nice covers) that I can find and afford. Multiples are fine by me. But I appreciate seeing many of them here as it has really spurned my interest. I think I'm even gonna tackle those Weird War books that I had always avoided before. I've also recently gotten into those Wrightson Swampy books as well. Anyway, cool stuff, keep it up guys. One day when I buy a new computer I'll download the necessary software and figure out how to post an avatar, and especially scans in my posts. ------Sid
  11. Hi. Yeah, I know I'm lame as hell for not yet taking the time to figure out how to post scans 'cuz I want to join in by putting up some of my favorite covers. But I did just want to thank all of you guys for posting so many yourselves. This thread, and the Bronze boards in general have really spurned my interest in the DC horror issues. I was always a Marvel horror guy with the vampires and werewolves and all that, but these boards got me hooked on DCs and now that is all I can think about. There are so many that you guys have posted that I MUST find. BUT, maybe I sound lame or maybe I am just a Marvel/DC zombie but I cannot force myself to buy a Charlton or any non-Marvel or DC Bronze book. And to be honest, although I have seen a few that were posted that are OK, they just do not compare to those DCs. They just don't. Sorry Charlton guys. But I'm not much of a reader and I judge a book at least 90% by it's cover. That's why the DCs (Wrightson and the gang) got me so hooked. Anyway, I still appreciate you guys posting them but you won't be competing with me to buy any. -----Sid
  12. Thanks for posting that Titanic book Shiver. Did you read it? My copy is probably a 9.4 and I don't want to risk handling it much. I do like those horror stories based off of history though. If you read it I was just curious about what the story was. ------Sid
  13. Thanks Shiver, you are the Bronze Horror Man! Hey, I was wondering what you thought of the original EC comics (Tales From The Crypt, Vault Of Horror, etc)? I know they pre-date our books by 20 years but I believe they pioneered the short-story horror format that DC emulated later on (as well as many others). The art and stories are fantastic in those books. Of course they are harder to collect and much more expensive. Just wondering about yours and the others thoughts about the EC books in comparison to the Bronze DC anthologies. -----Sid
  14. Sorry, still haven't figured out how to post scans but I recently purchased a beautiful Weird Mystery Tales #2 which has a Titanic cover/story. It's worth putting up if anybody has one. Great cover. ------Sid
  15. No, I never left the hobby but I have not purchased many Moderns over the last several years. Yeah, there are a few OK covers out and I am familiar with McKean's work. It's OK if you like that style of art. Just nothing that I have seen that can compare to these great 70s covers outside of the rare cover here and there. I do like that Swampy cover you posted though. ----Sid
  16. Beautiful books guys. I just bought two great copies of that Witching hour #13 at the recent Wondercon. I'm gonna get the better one slabbed. Question: There are plenty of great artists out there today and in my opinion many equal to the talent of these great 70s cover artists. However, why is it that we don't see anything but "carp" out of horror covers these days? Plenty of superhero books that have outstanding covers. Take a look at many Modern Marvels of the last few years. Some of the best cover work ever in comics in my opinion. But horror? Sheet! Nothing worth a second look AT ALL! Not much in horror out there anyway except for lame vampire books here and there by tiny independants. I guess DC Vertigo has some horror but I never see a good cover. Disappointing at the least. Does anybody have an example of a good Horror cover within the last 20 years? -------Sid
  17. 9.6 of course. I just bought two #2s raw. One maybe a 9.0, the other hopefully a 9.4. ----Sid
  18. Shiver, Exactomundo. There is something in the air and I feel it too. They do look better. That is what has drawn me back to Bronze horror with a vengeance. I have not been on this thread much and I need to take the time and go back and read every single post here. But I am absolutely in love with these books being discussed. Not only with the DC bronze horror, which YOU Shiver helped to tune me into again a while back but I am really big into the WBN, TOD and other Marvel Monster books and have been known to buy many multiples of these same books. I've gotta take the time to figure out how to post a scan and then I'll put up some really cool books. For example, the first ten Wrightson cover Swamp Thing books are just incredible. Anyone care to post a #2? Thanks------Sid
  19. But Sid, that's part of the dilemma......the two books won't be the same price. The 9.0 could be multiples of the 8.0, would you still want it? Yeah, you are right. I was half stupid/asleep when I wrote that. -------Sid
  20. I'm not all that familiar with the whole pressing thing but if I had a choice between, say a 8.0 unpressed book, or a 9.0 pressed book for the same price, then I'll take the pressed book anyday. This is assuming of course that no "restoration" is visible. I don't care how they do it, professionally or otherwise, but if it looks good, and does not contain any artificial elements, then it just does not bother me. There may be exeptions to this rule, but I am generally speaking.-----Sid
  21. I'm certainly no expert on this topic, but if you think you may ever want to sell this book then I would not get it restored. Buyers seem to avoid restored books by the plague. Am I wrong? I know that there are professionals that restore comic books as well as amateurs. I would only go to a highly recommended professional, if you can afford him. And that is only if you want to keep the book. As an investment book, I say do not restore the book. IMO. -----Sid
  22. No more stories guys? I think it would be cool to have a thread that contained a bunch of little snippets of how we have all been scammed with restored books and bogus high grades, and how/if they were resolved. I could be a learning experience for a bunch of us. ---Sid
  23. Hi. With all the talk recently about buyers (such as myself) being ripped off by a fraudulent seller on Ebay with a restored or grossly misrepresented comic book, I thought I would start a thread where we could all explain briefly our own experience, along with the resolution of the case and even the seller’s name if you want to divulge. Briefly explain the details, what happened, if any legal action or reporting took place and if the seller ultimately made good or not on the deal. This thread may also be useful as a sort of support group for the victims of “comic fraud” as I know that I for one “just needed to talk” about it with others who would understand. My very, very brief story: Back in November of last year I purchased an Amazing Spider-Man #1 on Ebay for $2,325 from a dealer who advertised the book as “7.0 or better” and described the small flaws in detail as well as stating that the book had no abnormal defects. He did not specifically state there was no restoration, but by the wording in his description a buyer would assume that it was not. So, book is paid for and received. I immediately notice that the book was highly restored AND even with the restoration looked to me somewhere between 4.0 and 5.0. I immediately contacted the seller and requested a refund. He insisted that his grading was accurate and that the book was not restored and refused to refund. He had no interest in finding a mediator to give an unbiased opinion on the restoration and grade and did not believe in CGC as he felt they were unreliable. So, just recently I received the book back from CGC and, just as I had thought, Moderate restoration APP 4.5. I e-mailed this guy with CGC’s results and he will not answer my e-mails. My next step is to mail the guy a copy of the results from CGC as well as a written letter by me explaining that I now have proof. I have filed fraud claims with Ebay, the FCC and FITC. So far I do not know if any of them have contacted the seller. I have not yet filed a legal suit. I did not want to divulge this guy’s name when I wrote about this problem on these CGC boards months ago. Now I will. His username on Ebay was GM67 although he is now no longer a registered user. His name is George Matos from Connecticut. If anybody here has dealt with this guy before then please contact me with a PM. Anyone else that wants to share their story please do. -----Sid
