  1. Here again are scans of my copies of two of the very toughest Flash comics of them all:

    Flash20106_zpssr3x8w9w.jpg

    d9c09ef3-6d52-4d47-badf-f20e60a0f7c3_zpsgpww9lq5.jpg

Does anyone have census numbers for Flash 105-109?

    ???

Those are two beauties for sure!! :applause:

Seems as though the 107 looks to be a tougher book to find (just based on CGC's Census), although that may simply be a result of the significantly higher prices garnered by the 106 due in part to OSPG calling it "Scarce".

Nevertheless, my early Flashes were almost all the results of trades or used book store purchases and are merely midgrade books at best... :(

  2. Here's why the $1 billion benchmark for Batman v. Superman is real.

It's not just that it's a superhero movie with two of the most iconic superheroes ever -- it's a modern summer blockbuster.

And we've live in an age where those should gross $1 bn. worldwide (with the Imax inflation & incredibly more international screens just 7-8 years ago).

    Furious 7 did $1.5 bn.

    Jurassic World did $1.67 bn.

Pirates of the Caribbean 2 did $1 bn. 10 years ago

Heck - people _hated_ Pirates of the Caribbean 4 and it did $1 bn. 5 years ago

In the age of the modern blockbuster (esp. sequel, which this is -- to Man of Steel), $1 bn. for a summer tentpole is no longer an unreasonable benchmark.

Amazing Spider-Man 2, meanwhile, only did $757 million worldwide and was considered such a failure that they cancelled the planned sequel and two spin-offs in favor of a reboot.

You can argue a $750 million vs. $800 million bar for break-even all you want, it's still hard to spin that after the Nolan movies, etc. Batman v. Superman can't even match Iron Man III's numbers without even adjusting for inflation.

    March is part of summer?

    It is now.

The Hunger Games ($700 million plus) and Alice & Wonderland ($1 bn. plus) proved spring tentpole releases could work with $100 million plus opening weekends.

And then Furious 7 and Captain America: Winter Soldier proved likewise for April.

20 years ago all of those films would have opened after Memorial Day.

You win a famous MARVEL NO-PRIZE for that non-answer... :D

The movie opened only a few days after the end of WINTER. A "SUMMER TENTPOLE" it isn't :sumo:

BTW, I think it broke the Box Office record for a MARCH opening weekend...

  3. Hep; Yes, most of these were subsequently slabbed and sold a decade ago. These are raw pics that are in my picture file.

The first two however (#144 and 80 pg Giant #4) are still in my collection as well as every issue from 106 to 123 and 40 or so assorted others up to around #175. I have a pretty large bronze age run as well...

  4. I watched MOS again. Nearly 3 years ago I gave this film a 7.0. I feel the same today. It is a good movie, but missed opportunities for greatness I suppose. Too dark, no fun, no color, excessive and gratuitous building demolitions, etc. Superman is more a supporting actor than a lead. The hand-held "shaky" photography still irritates me as does Superman's ridiculously long CGI cape. I need to see BvS again but I think less hand-held and a shorter cape in BvS. Zod, Jor, Lara, Faora and Martha are excellent. And the "death is its own reward" US Army dude. The opening Krypton scene is really good.

I watched MOS again earlier today (as a tuneup for BvS) and was surprised how much I thoroughly enjoyed the film this time around. It was almost like seeing it for the first time hm

Pretty much NO complaints from me...

  5. However, they were wrong.

    SC 4 in 5.0 last night -29.7k VERSUS AF15 5.0 last sale $26,500

    SC4 in 7.5 last night - 78.5k VERSUS AF15 last sale $73,500

    hm

Compare these figures in 3 months. This is only a short term trend.

I most definitely will. Unfortunately, those sales won't be in GPA. But i'll have it written down to compare.

I totally agree...one data point doesn't indicate a trend. My career is based on data analysis so an n=1 is always concerning.

I was basing my predictions based on recent lower-mid grade sales I have seen also. Sales off eBay and sales from some other dealers as well. I know SC4 is on the rise. Will it stay is always the burning question. No pun intended Burntboy. :)

If I'm not mistaken, this 5.0 sale is some $2000+ more than the 6.0 sale less than a month ago?!?! :o

Are the Koch Bros at it again?? hm

    It sure is :flamed:

Oh well, can't be greedy can we

Boba; You're book was sweet and got a very nice price. (thumbs u I'm just amazed with what transpired yesterday. This seems almost beyond reason.

IF it was an overgraded looking 6.0 with cream pages vs an undergraded looking 5.0 with white pages I'd still have a difficult time processing these results - and that wasn't the case...???

  6. I do not believe the SC4 is going to end even close to 42 500$. We will wait 24 hours and we will find out.

I don't either, but it's inaccurate to state the Showcase 4 only achieved $8900.

Jeff; given the amazing results on the 5.0 and 7.5 SC 4's, what happened to the super restored 9.8 which barely got a third of the similarly restored Hulk 1?? I'm scratching my head...

    Anyone else??

Probably not really a trend based on the small numbers but the rest of the year should let us know if there is something afoot.

Given that the AF 15 numbers are for recent sales, can we assume for one brief shining moment that SC 4 now has the all-time record price for any 5.0 and 7.5 SA Book???

  9. Did you know ANYONE who was excited about this movie before the last trailer?

Do you realize how big Fast & Furious is / was? Major trilogoy ON TOP of one of the last appearances before his death of one of the lead actors who was also well known. Furious 7 did over $1 BILLION at the box office.

More than Deadpool? OK, he was not a major character live Avengers or Superman in mainstream before the movie.

More than Avengers? It could be argued that the first Avengers movie was the second big leap for comic book movies. The first being Iron Man. The sequel had high expectations.

I've had people at work asking me about Batman v Superman for about four months now. One of the more common questions are 'why would they even fight' and 'when does this movie come out'.

So yes. There has definitely been excitement over this movie for a while now. Why would you think otherwise?

... this has been my experience as well...... I'm excited to see it....... almost as much as Tarzan..... GOD BLESS...

-jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u

Jimbo - you never let me down. I didn't even know there was yet another Tarzan flick coming this summer. So I just googled the trailer and am way excited by what i see.

The benchmark for me is Greystoke which begged for a sequel and this almost feels like it... :applause:

I'm also stoked to see this BvS thing - taking a step daughter to see it once the furor has died down...

  10. I don't believe I've posted a Pic of My Showcase 22 after getting it graded.

I was only 11 when i bought this at Sid's Luncheonette and like most of my pre-1960 purchases it was far too well-loved. I started to reread my books less frequently as I hit my Teenage years and hence the Higher quality books from the early 60's.

  11. I had not been paying attention to this book, but it has really gone up since the movie announcement.

    Aquaman #11

I'll say - there are about 20 copies up on ebay now with none better than a 4.0/5.0 and still everyone has an asking price over $100. The two that are up for Auction already have almost 60 bids between them. Things should really start to heat up now. :insane:

That black cover is a real problem. :pullhair:

I still can't believe the way that title has bounced back, T.V. series or otherwise.

There's a raw 5.0 (nice looking and fairly graded IMHO) that's ending in 4 hours.

It has 56 bids already from about 15/16 different bidders who all have between 189 and 4600 feedback.

I think this is about a $30 book in guide and it's already at $400 :o

I agree with you Andy - this run has always been a complete afterthought for me. The power of a Movie cannot be overemphasized when looking at value, but it's still the same book after all is said and done...

What the heck will Dawn of Justice do to all of the JLA character's books?? Hell, a successful movie will even pump new life into Wonder Woman after 75 years. :insane:
