This was my understanding as well.  I don't think there was a digital component to Europa book, either from Camuncoli, and certainly not from Jim.

Interesting.  The blue line looks very "Jim's Batman" style to me and pretty tight to his final ink.  Unless Camuncoli was intentionally trying to emulate that, I always assumed that was Jim's work and since it was blue line further assumed it was digital - I hadn't considered it could still be hand done?

Not trying to hijack if this is too far from topic - these feel like the relevant type of questions someone like me might be curious about (though, obviously, not having confirmation on them didn't dissuade me one bit from buying the page)

  2. Similar to what others have said, I think I'm most interested in being able to capture the word "original" when I buy art.  If there's a chance a copy could exist out there (or could be made in the future), that lowers desirability for me.  That said, the process you've proposed lends itself to that only insofar as you'd ever choose to use the same structure to cry and re-draw the same (or very similar) piece - so it wouldn't be much of a factor for me.  Especially if it's all 1 artist, I think I'd still be 99% concerned with final product as opposed to the digital prelim process.  That said, the 1% would appreciate something executed all by hand and the skill/time investment I know is required for a great piece.

I think one other factor would be considering what is standard for an artist - for some artists that is the only version of an original (like Fabok's ink over blue lines being standard for almost anything published that wasn't 100% digital).  If it's the norm for that artist, and was the process for their best stuff, I think that lessens concerns.  But, for example, I have an original from Jim's Batman Europa issue and I'm pretty sure Jim's process for that was similar to what you're describing (his water color/ink over his own blue line).  I love my page, though there is an asterisk in a way knowing that's not his standard process (or the one he uses for his most well known work) so it could be perceived as being less "authentic" in that sense.

I'm a fairly young collector I think - been doing it only about 7 or 8 years, currently in my mid 30's.

  3. Curious if people here saw the silver foil of Action 1 being done by New Zealand Mint.  It's not the full book, but I got an email from CGC on it for their special label for it.

I thought it seemed really cool and was thinking about picking one up.

Relax. I just pointed out the Jumanji trailer is what the audience really reacted to because the level of comedy and action shown.

Nobodies dumping on this beloved story.

I'm relaxed haha - wasn't an attack.  Just expressing that many people seem to be quickly wearing out their jump to conclusions mats lately.

  5. People complaining for nothing - it's supposed to tease the universe, not outline the plot.  Made me REALLY excited to see more.  There will be more trailers which give more context & content for those who want it all spoiled before they decide to see it.

  6. Went and saw it for a second time last night.  It really holds up.  The CG is still poor, but I really enjoyed the tone and characters.  Superman was finally who I've been waiting for him to be - positive, light, powerful, and with a correctly colored suit haha.

Really enjoyed this movie a lot even though it's not perfect.

  7. I was lucky enough to have my wife buy me the cover to what I think was the very first book I bought myself (or at least close - my parents had given me some before that I think) two years ago.  It happened to be hanging in a local comic shop and I'd showed it to her.  She went in without me knowing and convinced the owner to sell it to her for me.

you can't put greg land on the same level....he didn't do any memorable comics, although authority and ultimates were a revolution in comics at the time they were printed, and set new levels for comics (in my opinion)

I don't know about level overall, but I'd say the cover to Birds of Prey 8 is in my top 10 list of favorites - it's also a copper book which is routinely pretty high value for an era of comics without a lot of that happening.  Not like a full run or anything, but I've struggled with this theme for this book given the reference concerns as it's a cover I've always loved.

I passed on so many pages of that Superman/Batman arc.  It was years ago (back at WW Philly, when it was good).   Aspen had a large set up and they had pages and pages of that stuff.   I remember the "cheaper" decent pages (pages with a cape or two on them) were in the 1-1.5K range.   Wish I had the scratch at the time to have bought one or two.

They even had that killer Batman splash (where he's wearing that underwater gear).  I think it was 4K.

It's true - Frank only has one page left and he had it with him at SDCC this year.  It's the first full appearance of Kara - when she's in the trenchcoat - 1/2 splash.  Now priced at $10k.

    It's a phenomenal Supergirl run

Thanks for the pictures guys!  I missed almost all the art this year since I'm so busy at the show, and this has unfortunately become the norm for me.  Hey Gene (or anyone else), what was the price for BWS Conan saga #1 cover?  What a great piece of art.  I think I like that period of BWS better than much of his early Conan stuff (pre Conan 19), and the larger size and brilliant color work makes it no contest (for me).

I had one pickup at the show, the ROLEX GMT "The Batman" and even though it's not art in the strictest sense, Rolex collectors consider these timepieces as works of art, and this one is the Rolex Batman, so I'm still somewhat on topic.  Jim Lee blew my mind and put me into a state of shock by presenting it to me at his Spotlight panel in recognition of the 30 years of friendship and collaboration we've shared (we met in 1987).  I'm still buzzing about it days later.  Anyone who knows Jim knows this is who he is and what he does and I am forever grateful  that we crossed paths all those years ago.

It was really fun to see you celebrated Scott.  That was the highlight of the panel that day.  Congrats!

Just fair warning that dealers have almost lost all of their passes and their booth spots for getting caught sharing badges. Fair warning.

Yeah though it sounds like he's not planning to share or sell, it's just a typo on his driver's license.  As long as you can prove who you are, you'll be fine.  I agree I'd never buy/sell a badge as they crack down hard.  But if you're being honest, they're not going to give you a hard time.
