  1. 2) I liked how MAGNETO laced the Sentinels with metal so he could control them. But, this should do nothing more than allow him to manipulate them physically. Perhaps even turn them on, but he manages to activate them, somehow control the programming, and even see through their eyes. How else could he control them from about 50km away and then have them act as sentinels to guard an area he had no line of sight to? More "just because". And also having the bullet track MYSTIQUE makes no sense to me. Seems like he's telepathic or something. Or did he lock into the signature of the iron in her blood? If so, he should have been able to escape his prison much like MCKELLAN did. Whatever. And why in Lord's name would the government even keep such a dangerous enemy of the state alive?

I agree about the first half. It did seem a bit unlikely that just lacing a Sentinel with metal would have granted the level of control he displayed over them. It seemed like once that little computer started beeping indicating a mutant was around they basically went to it so perhaps the programing was very basic and he somehow overrode it. I didn't give that part too much thought and just sort of accepted it honestly. Regarding the second part though I don't think the bullet tracked her. I think he continued to steer it and just took his best guess as to her placement. He was going for a kill shot originally and only managed to hit her in the leg because he couldn't actually see her and was just shooting somewhat blindly at that point. That's how I saw it at least.

I'm not sure if this was brought up previously in the thread but my main issue with the movie (before the ending and wiping out the previous movies) is how Mystique was in the original movies if she was captured and experimented on and killed to created the Sentinels that existed in the continuation of the original movie time line? I know they wiped all that out but it left a large hole I don't really understand.

  2. Thoughts on Mass Effect? Any of them?

I never played ME1, however I played through ME2 before 3 came out. I enjoyed it but I honestly didn't come away with anything that really stuck with me.

The games are made by Bioware so the dialogue is well done and there is a lot of it. There were some parts of 2 where I wish I had played 1 first but I wasn't really hampered or anything. The ship you get is cool, there are a ton of choices that affect things and relationships with NPCs, and a decent weapon selection.

You also have the ability to load a saved character from a previous playthrough or from a previously completed game (ME2 save to start ME3) which was pretty neat too. It helped from an expirience standpoint and can make the first play through of the next game easier. However anyone that may have died in the earlier games won't be around etc.

I probably liked ME3 more than 2 but you have to install Origin which I really didn't care for. If you find them for sale or ME2 cheap on Steam I'd get them for a play through, but I'm still waiting for Half-Life 3 :(

  3. What happens when someone :takeit: in a sales thread when they are on your "do not deal with" list. I've seen sellers say, "sorry, I don't sell to you," and refuse to sell the item publicly in a thread.

Sadly I've had to start building a list of people I'd be unwilling to sell to :( . I believe that if the sales rules as posted in the thread indicate that the seller has some sort of "do not deal with list" that they'll be referencing as needed that any buyer could potentially expect their :takeit: to be rejected. And I also figure the seller has that right. The lists help but there are some non-listers I certainly have no interest in selling to, or buying from, no matter how much Cool Books Rule All™

  4. I think Ward ended up shooting the dog :(

Nope, It was Garrett. Garrett had the riffle with the scope. Ward just had a hand gun.

He saved the scientists by doing what he did at the end of the episode.

Shortly before that it was Ward behind the rifle with the scope taking the shot at the deer. I know Ward just had the hand gun. Either way, messing with dogs just irks me! I do however agree that the science types probably survived the dunk. Or maybe only he won't make it

I'll be interested to see how they wrap all this up. There were a lot of loose ends in this episode for not even being a finale. And did anyone ever chime in on what the neon sign at the motel said?

  5. Shipping: You ship the items to and pay for shipping yourself so that there will not be any problems

I am not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged items during the process of shipping as it is out of my control

-If I can't sell it for the price you want I will ship it to you at my cost

What exactly are you shipping to me at your cost if I'm responsible for shipping the book out that you've sold for me?

There are some people in this thread trying to offer you serious advice and those seem to be the posts you're ignoring! :ohnoez:

  6. I think you're going to have much better luck if you start doing some buying and selling here. Transactions lead to communications which can lead to relationships. I've never been so overwhelmed by anything that I've tried to seek someone out to sell it for me, let alone at a 20% cut. I also have to say that your age may be a hard sell too.

I recommend you read more and post less. Do some lurking and as had been mentioned spend some time at conventions actually meeting people. This is an excellent place to build a solid reputation but you need to start by accepting that you're going to need to invest some serious time and effort in doing so.

  7. Yep, my annoyance comes from the guy who is 3rd or 4th with posting the :takeit: but asks for the best copy. Just wondering if anyone honours that type of request.

    :pullhair:

    Here's the logic.

Doesnt EVERYONE want the best copy?

So asking for best copy is pointless. ESPECIALLY if you're the 4th person to claim a book.

I haven't run into having multiples that I wasn't selling together but even then I've always labeled them as A, B so people can see what they're getting. I imagine that if I had multiples and was selling them individually I'd probably just figure the first person wanted the best looking copy and go from there as they sold. If I was selling 4 copies of the same book all labeled as NM+ there really shouldn't be a whole lot of room between them. I realize that is an assumption on my part (that even though they didn't specifically request the best copy that they would indeed like the best copy) but I have to imagine it's a pretty safe one.

  8. I am surprised anyone on the boards supports having this guy stay a seller on here. Apparently as long as Symbi keeps offering good books, he can shill and manipulate all he wants. Personally I stopped buying from him (before all of the bad stuff came out) when he made a comment to me about making sure I make the Pay Pal personal or pay the fees in the future even though it was not in the sales thread anywhere.

    You're missing the point.

The HoS is reserved for the worst of the worst - the professional scammers, scumbags, liars & cheats. Some dude shilling his eBay auctions just doesn't compare to Alleybat (who started threatening peoples' families) or ComicSupply (who took a ton of peoples' money & never shipped nor refunded anything).

Symbiotic has, through his actions, made sure his name is mud around here - but, in comparison to the who's who of douchenozzles who inhabit that particular list, his infractions are relatively minor. Adding him to the HoS isn't going to change a thing apart from diluting the purpose of the Hall of Shame.

People seem to be treating the HoS like it's their own personal do-not-buy-from list - "oh, a seller didn't package my books correctly, put him in the HoS!". That was never it's purpose.

It could be that a lot of people weren't around for any of the previous infractions from these other Boardies. I mean, it sounds lame, but perhaps a brief sentence or two describing what people are in the HOS for (yes, there are links, but let's face it - in the time of flaming internet judgment, no one clicks links).

If people knew what the previous HOS members did, it may provide a small hurdle for them to consider before jumping to an knee-jerk nomination.

Oh oh I know this one! Posting pictures of balls in threads is a one way ticket!

  9. Microsoft is digging up E.T. Atari 2600 game cartridges tomorrow in New Mexico. :D Link below

    http://news.xbox.com/2014/04/ent-attend-atari-landfill-excavation

I've got an Atari 2600 and we have the ET game. I think I managed to beat it once but between falling through the floor and being chased by the men in white suits this game was quickly put in the 'I don't play these games' drawer. This does sort of make me want to dig it out and try again to see if I'm any better 20 years later hm

  10. Why did the X-men seller say he would ask "him" to send better pics? Is it not even his book?

    http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=7623997&fpart=1

If this is his business model he never actually has the book. The person he is selling for is responsible for shipping it after he sells it using their stellar photos and out of line pricing :D

  11. Member in question: NigelTufnel42 or Eric Adkins

    Hi,

I have sold several books here already and always had a great experience.

The first two transactions with Eric has been awesome. but now the final 2 transactions we have are all flops.

He held books for 2 weeks the first time then changed his mind and he said I'll just buy your other book instead etc. Decided to change his order but evntually after another week decided he can't pay.

After 1 month, I decided to list some other keys and once again he saw it and decided to make an offer and to hold books once again. Now it has been almost 2 months of holding the book and he disappeared on me again.

I believe I have been very patient with it and just because he bailed on me the 2nd time I believe he should be a candidate for HoS.

I am also worried that he has another account so just in case his name is Eric Adkins. I could PM more details about him if you inquire but for now I am really disappointed and saddened.

Not sure if I'm doing this right but I don't think this is HOS material. It certainly warrants a PL nomination however. I believe the protocol is that you need to send him a new PM saying you're nominating him and then there is a 72 hour period where we wait for (hopefully) a reply. Have you sent the new PM yet?

Edit - I understand that you're upset with the way this has gone down but HOS is for the absolute worst of the worst. There is still a chance he could come back and make this right, and sadly this sort of behavior happens around here often enough that it is hardly the worst thing we see.

  12. ... I don't believe that adults should need their hands held to make smart choices.

I think you are applying the term "adults" a little liberally to the forum members... :D;)

I agree that the 20% of adults that use this forum don't need hand holding.

But what about the 40% underdeveloped man-children?

or the 20% self righteous entitled elites who know better than any guideline could advise them?

or the 20% of profiteering hucksters who need to be controlled and railed against for turning this hobby into a money making venture?

or 10% of members who just want to post lewd cosplay photos from the latest con?

or the 20% that dont know how to do math or report percentages?

Math and I had a falling out in the late 90s...its just been awkward whenever we get together since then :insane:

In an effort to answer seriously the first 20% you listed there is the group of people I'm willing to engage in transactions with. There is a lot more to this forum than the buying/selling area and while I'm sure I've missed out on some deals due to my hesitation I'd like to think I've also missed out on some headaches. Though that 10% posting cosplay pictures doesn't usually offend me. Then again I'm not spending money with them!

  13. I've been here over a year, and while that isn't a huge amount of time I haven't racked up a lot of posts in that time. I've never felt the need to post "GLWTS" or "IBTL" or random smilies. I typically think out my posts and if I don't feel like I have anything to add to the conversation I won't say anything. A minimum post count would be both easy to get around and I worry it would limit some of the less talkative members. I realize I don't mean jack to anyone here but I've had a few sales threads and everything went swimmingly. Then again I also read the rules and did my absolute best to make sure I did things correctly the first time.

I can certainly understand wanting to add additional safeguards for newer users but if you're uncertain about purchasing an item from someone for any reason then either get whatever confirmation that you need to ensure things are on the up and up or pass by their thread (IE - don't let greed put you in a position you don't want to be in). This may sound a little preachy here, but I don't believe that adults should need their hands held to make smart choices. Everyone has had deals go sour and hopefully they learn from the experience. I understand that this is a community and I can see both sides of the issue. I just don’t believe that the additional limitations on sellers that are being discussed would really make that much of a difference. I am however much more likely to vote for some sort of length of membership criteria than a raw post count criteria. As long as we don’t then run into people selling accounts...(which believe it or not is an issue on other forums where trust is generally given based on length of membership) I wonder what mine would fetch! :jokealert:

  14. So I just though about something. Do we want to include "Offense Levels"? Basically 1-4 stars where depending on what you do deserves a different level of offense? I.e. if I don't pay for a 10 dollar comic then thats a 1 star offense and if I offer a trade of my Startling 49 for your Tec 31 and you send the Tec 31 and I send back an empty box, thats a 4 star offense?

I don't think we need to try rating these things. The PL is simple in that if you've wronged someone you end up on it and if you continue to be a cod-piece you head to the HOS. People have been added to the list regardless of the value of the transaction they need to complete and I'm not going to be any more inclined to deal with someone who may have "only" cheated someone for $10 vs $10000. Get yourself off the list and then I'll deal with you. That is my 2c

  15. Quickie question: I won an auction on Ebay. Paid immediately with Paypal. However the payment is still being "processed" on the Ebay site. When I check Paypal, it says that the recipient is "unregistered" and the payment is "unclaimed". I've attempted to contact the seller twice with no response yet.

I don't want to get some unpaid claim opened against me and I do actually want the auction item I won.

Has this ever happened to anyone? Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

I actually had this happen to me recently. It wasn't at all comic related but I was actually offered a Second Chance Offer with a note saying the previous buyer bid then never got back in touch. I sent the money through PayPal and it just sat there and sat there. Eventually I cancelled the transaction after multiple attempts to get in touch with the seller and haven't heard anything from them since. Was it a newer seller on Ebay you bought from?

  16. Moderns submitted 8/30 shipped yesterday (1/10)

Value Tiers submitted 8/30 are waiting to be slabbed. I was told they'd probably ship out around the end of the month.

    Moderns arrived today :whee:

The Value Tiers are now waiting for encapsulation. So much for shipping out end of January. I was told about 3 weeks.

2/28 - For those still following along at home - the Value Tier books are now in encapsulation. Estimated shipping out in about another week.

More than six months total time. I don't really feel like trying to work out the business day count :ohnoez:

Nested quotes are getting out of hand!

My Value Tier books arrived today. Based on the stamps all over the box I'm going to say they shipped 3/6.

    8/30/12 - 3/12/13

Despite the time I learned some important stuff about the process. I probably wouldn't chose to submit so many questionable books in one go but using what I learned from this submission I hope to be able to do better in the future.
