  1. You're drinking the CGC Kool-Aid - There are easily tens of thousands of collectors who have never submitted a book to CGC, and even more than that, that don't even know the difference between a Newsstand and Direct edition. You're not even considering that before 1992 (or even later) collecting was pretty much a private affair.
  2. Baloney - I still have HG books I bought off the rack in 1969, and older books I bought from a collection in 1967.
  3. I agree with this. This is poppycock and there is zero evidence to support this. Are you saying because I never went to a "comic book store" my books are ? Are you saying "direct edition collectors" are more enthusiastic and less likely to frick up their books?
  4. Greg, As much as it pains me to do so I'll have to lean towards Lazyboy on some of these points . . . which seem to be purely based on your personal experience and collecting bias, and your logic is convoluted (no offense ) The survival of newsstands had absolutely nothing to do with the behavior of direct edition collectors in the weeks after the newsstand book arrived.
  5. Seriously cannot find another newsstand copy of this issue:
  6. Boy you are finding some oddball stuff lately. Dont bring NFL Super Pro in here next. Ask and voila! (Or was that a joke? )
  7. Unfortunately no . . . But he is a Beast of a Higher Order! A Minotaur! *My apologies of discussing CA characters in the BA thread, but the discussion had already begun here.
  8. Bollocks you say! Fie on thee! RINTRAH! DOCTOR STRANGE #81 Feb 1987 NM/MT 9.8 W MARVEL MULTIVERSE 1st App RINTRAH! B/O $107.50 16 bids +$8.75 shipping Dec-28 20:33 Seller: truegrime(491)
  9. To be true, I haven't gone through many of my MA titles for Newsstands. I separately did a DCU run-through but got bored about half-way through . . . Just starting to look at my modern Marvel titles. Here are a couple of X-Men which don't look all that readily available:
  10. Unknown You must have some Omegas left in the tomato boxes As they say . . . a couple, two, three.
  11. This book was pretty much prime time in my collecting youth . . .
  12. Most definitely agree with you here as this is a very early Marvel magazine (after the 2-issue Spectacular Spider-Man attempt) and the one that started their run of Marvel/Curtis magazines in the 70's. Considering its place in the Marvel magazine timeline, definitely very much an underappreciated and undervalued book with still lots of runway left to go. Agreed . . . but I sold both of my copies way too early nonetheless. Even though I got top dollar at the time, I still love to have them back in my collection.
  13. A couple of Wolvie Newsstands, one of which I posted in another thread.
  14. I'm pretty sure the bagged version was fairly standard at the shops upon release. Most people prob opened them. Now, newsstand. That's something else. I'll check my collection. If I have it, that's where it was purchased. A lot of people had given up on the title at this point. So many variants, Dynamic Forces, and crazy creative teams prior. Honestly started enjoying a bit more toward the end, but it was too late for book. Patrick Well, both of these posts inspired me to look at a box of late Wolverines . . . no #158 to contribute, but I did indeed come across a few Newsstands:
  15. Assuming it's for the Marvel 25th anniversary frame cover. That said, I only saw 1 copy at or over $100 on Ebay, so not sure how comfortable that price is. What?!? No just plain Heathcliff fans???
  16. Yep, but that doesn't take into consideration a wide variety of factors (which have been discussed on a number of very popular threads over the years.) I happen to look at it from a change in artistic expression in the format, coinciding with a change in production methods and measures, similar to what occurred between the SA and the BA, rather than how many associate that change merely with the jump from the 12 cents covers, or the introduction of Conan the Barbarian vis-a-vis superheroes (or addressing relevant social issues like GL 76.) A topic worthy of discussion . . . but inapplicable here. (No offense intended.)
  17. It always helps to have at least two people interested in a book . . .
