  1. Your post seems to imply that you have information about the Western Penns that could be of interest to the readers of this thread. Is it your source of amusement to "tease" the readers of this thread by withholding it? Why not just be a constructive contributor? I'm sure we'd all like to hear about the Western Penns as I own several myself. By the way, writing in complete sentences, not run-ons, may help us to understand what you are saying better. Joe
  2. This thread is an amazing showcase of comic book history! (Pun intended!) As early as the mid-1980s I had given up trying to find early 1960s or 1950s DC's in high grade, thinking they pretty much didn't exist. Now I know why I could never find them -- you guys got to them first! What's impossible is finding them not only in grade, but without the edge tanning that frequently plagues them. Keep them coming. I'll post some more myself later. Joe
  3. I will definitely post the first twenty of the giants and regular series, which is mostly Bethlehems. I know I keep saying I'm about to do it, but something always comes up. I am finished with my move into a new place, so they will be up very soon. I've got about half of them scanned and they're all in front of me, so it's about to happen!!! Joe
  4. A belated "thank you" to you for not bidding them up higher than they already were!!! This Dennis #1 is not actually part of the Bethlehem collection. The Bethlehems were missing 1, 4, and 11 and look a good deal nicer than this. By the way, I was so impressed by your Batman 92 comic I was just looking for one on ebay. There's not one copy -- in any shape. I'm focusing on getting 100 to 130 complete right now as I have 131 and up already. Joe
  5. I'm getting ready to start a Dennis the Menace thread, so here is a preview: The best known copy of an impossible book to find in high grade. I've been looking since I was ten and this is the best I've ever seen. By the way, this IS a ten center, not a zero center!!! Keep the posts coming -- I'm loving it so far. Great thread idea, tth2!!! Joe
  6. I agree! I bought this, my reading copy, from Metro back in the 1990s as an 8.5, and that was the first time I'd EVER seen a high grade copy. This past summer I bought a beautiful slabbed 9.0 off ebay. When did I start looking for a nice copy? Early 1980s. So it took about 25 years to get a decent copy. Of course, I HAVE been doing other things during those years.... Joe
  7. This is the horror cover that's always blown me away. I just posted this in the bronze age cover thread, even though it really belongs here. Forgive me if someone's already posted it, but I haven't made it through all 300+ pages yet! This is my reading copy. My slabbed 9.0 is not quite as handy at the moment.
  8. I just posted this in the Silver Forum but thought it'd go nicely here too in case some of you don't go over there. It took me twenty years to find a decent copy of this comic. $%^&in' impossible in high grade and with no discoloration! This is the Northland copy, 9.2.
  9. Sterling, thanks for starting this great thread and congratulations on reaching 300 pages. It may be the best thread on the boards!!!! Joe
  10. I'd say you got a great buy! Chamber of Darkness and Tower of Shadows are two underrated series. You get art by Steranko, Adams, Smith, Buscema, Wrightson, and great stories with adaptations of Lovecraft, etc. These books get lost in the mix of all those endless Marvel Bronze reprint titles, and new generations of collectors don't know about them, even though they kicked off the beginning of the Bronze Marvel horror genre. Isn't TOS 1 the first Marvel horror comic? These are some of the few Marvel horror books that can hold their own against the DC Bronze books. Joe
  11. Me too! I'm just glad I completed my sets before they got expensive. This stuff was dirt cheap in the 1980s, in dollar boxes! Now just upgrading issues here and there is expensive. I can't imagine starting Werewolf, Frankenstein, Witching Hour, Tomb of Dracula, House of Mystery, House of Secrets, Unexpected, or any of these sets from scratch now. The competition for the books plus the prices put this game in the realm of the impossible or the very wealthy... The Gold Key stuff - Karloff, Ripley's, Twilight Zone - and the Charltons are about the only area that isn't priced through the stratosphere. Even the Marvel reprint stuff is expensive comparatively. Joe
  12. I won this and am ecstatic about it! Apparently I'm the only one on the planet who thinks it's worth more than $150??? Fine with me. Can't wait to get it!!!!!!!
