  1. This book was purchased at WW Austin at my booth and was a CGC 4.0

Cracked out, signed by Stan and then graded by PGX.

bcc, the 3 comics he cracked open and regraded all looked undergraded by cgc.

DJBrady only shows the front covers on his auctions so I wonder if there's damage on the back covers. Do you remember?

I guess part of his methodology is to look over hundreds of slabs with an eye for good "front cover" appeal. To me, looking at his pics, the JIM 83 & the DD 1 look like they could actually pass for the grades he gave them (which makes me think they must have flawed back covers), the Hulk 1 he's selling doesn't come close to a 7.0, but it looks like it could be a 5.0 or 5.5 judging from the front cover.

If you have pics of the 3 comics in their CGC slabs I would love to see them, especially the back covers.

BTW.... I am SO grateful for these boards educating me about crooks like Djbrady.

I do not have ready access to scans of the books in CGC holders although I know there are some not so great pictures of them. I was sharing my booth with a friend since Wizards booth costs have gotten ridiculous (that's another story). The books were his. I will let him decide if he wants to get involved in the conversation here; not my call.

I handled the books several times and was present for the entire transaction and can state unequivocally that they are the exact same books. You can take my word for it or not.

The books looked to be graded tight but not out of whack considering CGC is in their "tight" stage right now; much like my ex-wife was in the mid 90's.

You should be able to tell the Hulk 1 that is graded at a 7.0 is ridiculously and unscrupulously overgraded. I wouldn't argue with a 4.5 but anything above that is :screwy:

I will add that when I started this thread I did not know he was a "grader" for PGX, just that he was associated with them on a "friendly" level.

My feelings have now gone from "just not wanting to have anything to do with PGX books" to contempt.

  2. Why would u crack out a certified signature book!!!

    :frustrated:

The books were not CGC SS books. They were blue label books that he bought at the show, went and cracked them out, had Stan sign them at the show, and now they are graded PGX SS a few days later.

Desertwind was at the show doing the witnessing for CGC. I have no idea if they do it/did it for the PGX books or not. Only they would know. If they didn't, then it appears PGX needs no witness. (shrug)

To clarify; no one is unhappy with the prices the books were sold for; a fair price was received. However, what followed was what I wanted to bring to people's attention.

I'll post the conversation with the purchaser when I have time. There were other books as well and I'll try to find them.

I'm attempting to locate a scan of the book in a CGC holder, it is around somewhere, just can't find it right now.

  4. Not listed as Baker in Overstreet or on the label by CGC but looks like it to me. Anyone know for sure?

    Hi Boyd,

This is John Lee from the old Continental Comics of the 90s. Nice cover on the Phantom Lady, but I am 100% convinced this is not Baker. The body form and face just don't match.

Hey John, it has been a long time. Good to hear from you!

Thanks for the info. I knew someone would know!

  5. Dan was kind enought to send me a book I was looking for free of charge. Not an expensive book but just the fact he would seek me out and offer it up blew me away.

I can't thank you enough Dan!!

I'm dying to find the Witches Tales 25 in high grade if anyone wants to sell...in fact, ANY Harvey Horror in high grade if anyone wants to sell!

6.0 IS high grade for that issue. It is my understanding there are no Harvey File copies of this issue for some reason. I've been looking for a high grade for 15+ years.

    Great pickup (thumbs u
