  1. Been making trades for nearly 20 years now and some of my favorite art was obtained that way. As for buying for "trade bait" after many times of it simply not working out anywhere near as planned I went back to my original motto of NEVER buy something unless I like and intend to keep it.

The attitudes of many dealers, especially the big names, who it used to be "fun" trading with, now skew towards difficult to downright nasty. Dealing with other collectors however still can be mutually beneficial, just be careful you know whom you are dealing with as there are many sharks swimming in the hobby as well as a plethora of flippers who in effect are "con men".  I've found if a person has a gallery loaded with a certain title, character or artist that is likely they do not fall into the conman flipper category especially if their gallery has a long multiyear history. In addition making good contacts can be key.

  2. I had a holy original art grail that for 15 years I had hoped to find but never expected it would happen. Then one day in the back of some out of the way random comic shop there it was. Although it was not for sale, I left the shop owner with an offer anyhow.   Eventually time passed and he contacted me and we did the deal. The thing is for me the moment it was in my possession all other comic art, comics and related collectibles lost a significant interest to me. While I am glad, nay blessed, to have the item museum framed on my home office wall, I do miss the good ol' days when my interest was higher in comic art.  In effect the day i got my the holy grail top of the mountain was reached and for me at least no where to go but down

Does comicartfans load quicker if you pay for Premium access?

I have about a 50/50 chance of hitting comicartfans.com and having all the images load properly.

Do paying members get a better experience in terms of quicker load times?

Answer is no and I'm a long time premium member. I feel premium membership is a must have for all those serious or active in the hobby .

I use "uBlock origin" to block the elements I do not want. Greatly decreases loading time and allows for a cleaner look as well.

BTW I think there is or was a ISP rehosting going on.

  4. Buyer: "Hey, how much do you think this page is worth?" Consulting Collector:"$65K" Buyer: "Awesome, thanks!" Buyer hangs up. Consulting Collector calls Rep: "Buyer contacted me. I did you a solid and told him it was worth $65K. Now, about that cover that I want..." I feel like if someone contacts you for your help and your opinion, don't abuse that. And buyers should always consult with multiple fellow collectors or sources to verify pricing and guard against this type of behavior.

This exact scenario happened to me two or three times last year with two dealers. It has caused me to lose nearly all faith in a lot of comic art dealers and is why I've been buying directly from collectors on CAF, instead of off a dealer's website.

  5. To All,

If Metropolis Comics, or anyone else other than me, contacts you about buying the following Frank Miller art,

Sin City: The Big Fat Kill

The Dark Knight Strikes Again #3 pages

2 Lone Wolf and Cub covers

    300 #4 cover and 2 interior pages.....

please be aware that who ever offers you the art does not have the authority nor the permission to sell the art.

These people do not have the art in their possession.

The art is owned by Lynn Varley and I am her authorized agent to sell the above mentioned art.

Do not offer to buy any of the art from anyone other than me, as you will not receive any art.

This note from Lynn Varley should make everything clear.

    To clients of Mitch Itkowitz,

I am told that several pieces of art were made available for sale by

Metropolis Comics, an entity I'd never heard of until

my representative, Mitch Itkowitz, made me aware of them tonight.

The art in question is owned by me. I have not

authorized Metropolis Comics nor do I intend

to authorize Metropolis Comics to sell any art on my

    behalf.

    Lynn Varley

    Thank you,

    Mitch Itkowitz

I hope your post is not implying the actual Metropolis Comics is doing this, but rather unknown individual or individuals impersonating Metropolis Comics as part of phishing type scheme?

  6. The Seller's New Mutants 98 and X-Force 2 auctions are in the same league as the art page.

Here is a great copy of New Mutants #98 by human deity/crapbag Rob Liefeld. This sucker was graded an amazing 9.8 by CGC, one of less than a billion books graded at such a pristine grade. There's a good chance you'd have to go to at least 2 comic book shops to find a copy in such amazing condition(assuming the first one had burned down).

This book introduced the world to Deadpool, Domino, and Gideon, and as everyone recalls, Gideon is the one who blew up and became famous. Gideon was this ponytail wearing dude that basically kidnapped Sunspot after poisoning his dad and then made Sunspot work out with him all the time. It was weird.

Oh, and you'll notice this cover has feet! As any true Liefeld fan knows, he doesn't know how to draw them, so these are clearly ghost-feet drawn by a real artist.

Deadpool they made some kinda movie out of starring the dude from Two Guys, A GIrl, and a Pizza Place show and the guy who plays the not-smart tech guy on Silicon Valley. Oh, and Morena Baccarin, who we all loved from Firefly and Serenity. She was pretty much the high point of the movie. And the opening credits. That was a great opening credits scene.

So there ya go. Epic comic, epic grade, and priced less than the next closest BIN version of the identical thing. Exciting times all around. Now throw your money at me.

And remember - Liefeld is watching you. He's kinda creepy that way.

X-Force #2 by the magical and mighty Rob Liefeld. This was the third appearance of Deadpool after New Mutants #98 and the card and pinup from X-Force #1.

We know what you're thinking and do not worry! This sucker is sealed tight in a crypt and there is no way any Liefeld will get onto you from touching it(although we recommend gloves). But be warned that if somehow the case was cracked or you came into direct contact with the book itself it is quite possible you will get some Liefeld on you. Known infections have resulted in loss of understanding of how to draw feet as well as a refusal to ever finish a project.

We got 8 of these books in cgc 9.8. $60 with freeshipping in Liefeld-proof packaging.
