I never noticed it before, but there are 213 CGC graded copies of Cry For Dawn #1 (universal plus signature) and two-thirds are CGC 9.2 or lower.  That's amazing for a Copper Age book... only one-third of graded copies at CGC 9.4 or higher... not to mention all the copies that weren't submitted at all due to condition problems.

I thought it was incredible to see CFD 1-5 all 9.8 up at once on ebay of all places, and based on that data, its even more remarkable.  Seller might have considered Clink for those.  As you know, you see those books up for auction here and there in 9.8, but that collection was the result of some collector spending some time finding those books in that condition.  Even with the thicker cardstock covers, CFD is just hard to find in NM+ shape, especially the limited editions of 6, 7, and 8.

Surprised to see CGC 9.8 Cry for Dawn #1 sell for $825.

They don't come up often... GPA only has 10 sales recorded for the past 5 years, but this is the first to pass $800.

I think part of the allure and price was due to the fact that #2, 3, 4, and 5 (all in 9.8) were up as well from the same seller.  Great looking books,  JML stuff in terms of collectability is alive and well.

I know technically BA 12 came out in 1992, and many list 91 as the end of Copper, but let's just pretend.

You have $900 (GPA for last two sales of first titles), and you see a 9.8 New Mutans 98 slab, an ASM 300 9.8 Slab, or a Batman Adventures 9.6 slab (9.8 is in the 1500+, and 9.6 you'd pocket some money, 50-75).

Which do you buy, and why?

I think time will tell, but obviously NM 98 and ASM 300 have been headed for a crash course as the possible key for the new kids, for quite some time.

Where are you finding an ASM 300 9.8 for $900?

Because you should buy it and then sell it the very next day on eBay for $2000.

     This isn't complicated.

If GPA represents "reasonable", then the 58 copies of CGC 9.8 sold in the last 90 days average $150.

People can ask whatever price they want for raw or slabbed... but until it sells, it isn't "market price".

You're not finding a 9.8 for $150. You know this.

This price jump on ASM 361 is just crazy.  Everyone knew Carnage was coming to the big screen and I've seen plenty of pictures of people hording 100s of copies of ASM 361.  Supply is huge so hopefully demand will be equally as huge.

There are 287 9.8 ASM 344s.  Thats alot.

There are 1653 9.8 ASM 361s.  Thats absurd, but it also makes 344 not as plentiful in the grand scheme of things, and you cant skate around the events of 344 I dont think.

  6.  Well I would say at first it was because of my girlfriend at the time, she was really into it, and she made it seem so cool, and I was just head over heels in love with her.   So then with her, I started hanging around people that seem to also be into it, and I certainly didn't see anything wrong with the social aspect of it. After that, we agreed that I would try it, so she had a cousin that gave us what he said was his really high-quality stuff, And although I was nervous, it felt really good at the time. Day by day, week by week, we just started doing more and more, and again, neither of us really saw anything wrong with it, we were getting along really well, and everything just seem to click. I can't remember  exactly it started going wrong, but I started missing classes, missing work, and really withdrawing from everyone and everything around me except her. And then one night she ended up in the hospital because of it, and all I can do to cope with that was to use more.

Oh wait, that's the story about how I got hooked on drugs, not comics. My bad on that folks.

(sorry, u were asking for it)

I am slightly skeptical of that amount as the sales price.  The list price was $350 with a best offer option available, and it just does not seem reasonable that you would pay 350 when you could make a best offer, and the history of sales at that point said 225-250 range.  Who knows.  @Nickelspot is a member here, and that is his auction, maybe he could enlighten us as to the final sales price.

But if that is in fact the sale price, good lord.

One more auction for a MTU 141 9.8 going on right now, already over 3 bills with 2 days to go.  Not a good sign its going to get cheap again.

Welcome to the the free world with MTU 41: :whatthe:

X-Men 266 getting close $100 raw now surprised to see it going this high.

Marvel Age 82 - All over the place, but is selling well with high sales at around $30

    ASM 344 - A once $15 book is now approaching $30-40 in NM+ raw

Wolverine 88 - Finally this book is seeing some attention. Couple of sales over $20 raw now.

    Macross 1 - 1st Robotech - $20-40 in high grade.

Superman Annual 11 - I don't get this book, but others do it sells easily for $50 raw in NM.

Silver Surfer 44 and 45 still pulling $15-20 an issue.
