  1. isn't this a hobby of nearmints ? the collecting of old comic book photos I mean ?

I used to have a page on my website where I posted them all for everyone to enjoy. Then I got a nasty cease and desist order from one of the copyright holders and a bill for $6000, so I took it down. :(

    :o:o:o

    Wha......??!!! Why.....??!!........That's astonishing !! :o:o

Basically, if you post copyrighted material online without permission, the copyright holder can charge whatever he or she wants as a licensing fee. Many regular people are getting hit with bills for thousands or even hundreds of thousands of dollars. The copyright holders are using automated software to scan the web for reproductions of their copyrighted images.
  2. no sir, just a minimum of 1 from each cgc-recognized ped, including publisher's file copies. this one is the first quality file copy I've ever seen.

p.s. they recognize a few more across the street, and those are in hand, as well.

If you're trying to acquire a Pay Copy from each publisher, too, then you'll have to try to acquire the pay copy of Motion Picture Funnies Weekly #1. :baiting: That's probably the only Pay Copy from that publisher.

  3. I prefer 18 over both as well. In fact I prefer #13 over the other 2 as well. While not as, "sexy" As the others I still find it more intriguing (thumbs u

I love this cover and think it's great stuff, etc., but I have to say that the "sex appeal" factor is diminished significantly by that yellow hand!

    Maybe for you!

  4. So many great books getting posted lately. Here is a partial mini-group shot. Didn't have time to dig out my raw copy. I can't resist the well centered copies but sadly lost the copy just sold on CLINK. Just to busy to focus 100% on the auction.

I had been planning to go after the 7.0 that was sold on CLink, but they never sent me the back cover scan I had requested. :(

  5. I recently picked up a handful of low-grade readers on eBay, so I'll be able to enjoy reading some Carl Barks stories this week. Only a few of them are even marginally collectible (due to the condition), but one of them features the first appearance of Gyro Gearloose.

Those look like presentable copies. Barks did an amazing job with those 10-page DD stories.

I plan to dig into them tonight. It's been a long time since I've actively collected funny animal books, so it's probably been 15 or 20 years since I've read a Barks story.

  7. This would be a more accurate rendering of the two old biddy's who were harassing the news vendor.

Look again; one of those women is Lois Lane, who is undoubtedly undercover to gather material for a biting expose to run in the Daily Planet.

The other one is a hypocrite who, after harassing the news vendor, went home and pored over her stash of Rudolph Valentino nude bondage photos.

Is there not a Tec #27 9.2 out there as we speak? I believe it was a CPR'd to its current grade but you can bet it would surpass any Action #1 sale to date. Oh and Mitch a Tec #27 CGC 8.0 actually out sold a the Action #1 CGC 8.0 in 2010 and those sales were only months apart. More facts for you to ignore.

The Dentist Dave A has a high grade copy we talked on the phone around 1982-1985 and he had just got the book when i got mine. I have not been in contact with since the 80s when i was selling on the CBG but i (think) he has a copy that would grade 9.2 but thats just hear say (shrug) . I have heard there was a 9.2 or better out there and that book would break it all.

I believe Dave has the Allentown tec 27

Isn't the alleged grade on it NM to NM+?

Ya thats what he told me back in the 80s NM/M .The way things were back then was Bob overstreet has the best Timely coll out there and E Gerber was as close to Pedigee there was.

i don't quite understand the gerber comment please clarify.

Back in the 80's there was no talk abought Pedigree books they were just nice coll found here and there. But Gerber had a lot of key books for his Gerber photo-journals and that was the talk at every con that i sold at. I guess the comment was my verson of a Pedigree was Gerber able to hold all these Rare books.

Were people thinking that all the books in the Gerber journals were his personal collection? That certainly isn't true (although some of them may have been his).

gerber solicited help in obtaining books to photo...I believe he even ran some cbg ads...so, while he did offer to buy (or owned many I'm sure), the majority were traveled to and photo'd (I believe berk confirmed this with his centaurs...multiple trips iirc)

I've heard some interesting stories from John Verzyl about Ernie Gerber's efforts to obtain cover shots and scarcity information contained in the Photo-Journals. Let's just say the scarcity indexing wasn't exactly a scientific process. That said, those oversized volumes are a testimonial labor of love to the hobby that would be impossible to duplicate if attempted today. Every collector should own a set.

They're phenomenal, but every time I flip through them my want list seems to grow! doh!

  10. I quite enjoyed it

Gator would you say it was the Superman mythos that is a sore spot with these critics?

I haven`t met anyone yet that didn`t enjoy Ben Affleck as Batman or Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.

It seems to be the Superman stuff like Lex Luthor and Doomsday that is throwing critics in a tiff.

Let`s face it the next solo Ben Affleck Batman movie will do an easy 1 billion box office.

    Batman`s future is secure.

    Superman`s I don`t know.

You've now met someone who did not enjoy Ben Affleck as Batman. I kept wishing Jeremy Irons/Alfred would kill Ben Afflck/Bruce Wayne and take over the mantle of Batman.

I haven't seen this one yet, but I have yet to see an actor who really nailed Batman. In every Batman movie that's been any good (which for me would be Batman Returns plus the Dark Knight trilogy), it's been the villains who made the movies. I would have preferred to see an unknown but talented actor cast as Batman, but I'm keeping an open mind about Affleck till I see the film. (I'll probably wait for it to hit the $2 movie theaters.)
