  1. It does cost quite a bit for exclusives to be produced and no, they don't get 50% off. Maybe in terms of Midtowncomics they might get an extra discount due to their monthly ordering but it's less than 50% on 3k color runs and depending on the variant and artist it's costly to do the variants.

So what other variants are coming out?

    Frankie's Comics - Babyteeth #1 Lenticular cover

    https://frankiescomics.com/products/babyteeth-1-mike-rooth-lenticular

Not cheap though for just 1 issue...

  2. Store Exclusive Variants Thread!

So there's always posts in all the separate "Celebrate artist X" threads about store exclusives for a certain artist or character. I thought we should have a thread that lists all the store variants announced so that people interested can find it easier.

I'll start by showing a couple that I'm aware of:

KRS Comics: Peter Parker Spectacular Spider-man #1 by Stanley "Artgerm" Lau - Released 6/30/17

Unknown Comics: Weapons of Mass Destruction #1 by Stanley "Artgerm" Lau - Released 7/21/17

The smoking gun were comic calvacade variants done when the book came out. The ruby red's were always hard to find. If i remember, they were limited to 500 I believe as what was advertised. Actual print run, I have no idea.. But they were always tough to get and sold out quickly. The IDW one is a re use of the same cover...to the Danger Girl revolver series...so I guess it's not a reprint per say? a reprint of a cover? It's a re used cover though.  Oh and congrats on the book! I am still looking for a 9.8 one myself...unfortunately, I wasn't smart enough to be super picky with condition back then.

I heard that the Ruby cover was a print run of only 400 and the platinum's were out of 1000....iifc

I owned a CGC 10 with a printing defect where the corner atop the spine had frays of fiber poking out (shrug)

Really? I thought 9.9 and 10's couldn't have any sign of anything really. (if that makes sense) I had to talk to a grader once because of manufacturing defect on a book. I pointed it out and he said that it was acceptable to get a 9.8 but due to the defect it couldn't receive anything higher regardless of the spine, corners, or anything else that was perfect on the book.

I've had both 9.9's and 10's, very far and inbetween and couldn't tell you why. I submitted perfect copies of Batman #21 Lenticular covers for onsite grading. No visible scruff on the back lower right corner that was evident on hundreds of books. I submitted 5 thinking they were absolutely perfect only to get them as 9.8's. (shrug)

I was going to jokingly say, "Boobs. Big ones" but that's true in some cases

Haha we all know that's true since sex always sells. There's actually a cover I want to get because of the big "assets" a character has on a cover but don't have the funds to purchase it yet but I am on the look out for a 9.8...haha

  7. I like everyone's opinion and agree with all. I think we might have to separate from modern books to everything else. Books like Hulk #181 is a really cool cover plus the introduction of a new character.

Modern books only seem to be pumped up on speculation and media. It's optioned to be a movie, show, or something. One of the biggest recent reference would be X-23 and the announcement of a movie about a year ago. After the Logan movie the prices dipped a little but a NYX #3 in 9.8 commands a $1k price.

But aside from monetary value increasing, what about the actually popularity? Gwenpool and SpiderGwen are two that seems to have a lot of hype and people seemed to jump on the books but has the interest died down now after it's been a year or two..? Are they ever going to get popular again? I know that's really in the hands of the publisher to push the character as well to keep momentum going...

  8. Well I first saw the item at Chicago and they displayed the item which is a really cool item. I have 50 of them but if I'm right stores had to opt into the launch party and it provided 2 copies of the Brooks Premium Variant, 1 copy of the Nauch Sketch Variant, Secret Empire pins, posters, and these lenticular mini posters.

As for the number of retailers that opt'd in I have no idea on how to find that out. Hope that helps!

  9. What makes a character hot?

So I'm curious to know what others think on what makes a character a hot commodity? X-23 due to the movie but it was heating up before that? Venom because he got his own series? Well what about Venom Space Knight before the current Venom series (i know it wasn't that great...lol)

So what makes a character all of sudden get hot and everyone has to go find issues with that character and 1st appearance issues? Is it a movie release, tv series announcement, or is it just pure speculation?

That's all for now. I do have better scans of some of the books and I know there's more books but these are just the images I have on my laptop to use since I'm not where the books are currently.

I also have 3 copies of the Batman #21 Lenticular cover available and anything else I can find later today I'll post on the thread. If you have questions or anything just PM or reply to thread.

    Thanks,

Why? The majority of blue label submissions that get dropped off at shows come with completed paperwork - people fill out the online form, print it & bring it with them. This just rewards people for doing this (which saves a lot of time at the booth).

The big exception is shows with on-site grading where you see a ton of "spur of the moment" blue label submissions, but there's no invoice fee for on-site graded books.

My bad for getting notifications late and not replying quickly. If I read right it said anything with paper or PDF forms it's now $8. I do that to same time and will use the fillable pdf and drop off books to save on shipping to CGC if a convention is close since I tend to go to about 1 every month or so. Now it's an extra $3 per invoice sure but still at least I was trying to be proactive and have it all done beforehand.

Now I haven't used the online forms since it first debuted and tried to use it and like it but I kept have problems on Chrome so I said forget it.

For the price increase I understand that over time with inflation and other reasons prices go up. It's not a big deal for people that rarely submit but I'm a modern dealer and submit many books, not as much as beachbum or others, but I have a small personal list of clients. I like to lower prices for my clients like I did last year and not raise them because it's great to be a collector and receive an email that says "Hey shipping went up but we found a method to lower prices, Enjoy!" Now with grading prices going up, shipping prices going up I know I will see a few people grade 1 less book when they have 4-5 titles a month they subscribe to for a 9.8 grading service. Especially when some titles are coming out bi-weekly.

  12. If you're in the area and depending where you are you could always hit up board member robotec and see if he will be at his warehouse. That is where you'll find a lot of hidden treasures and goodies at grade prices. Mostly high end keys but also everything in between too...lol.

All about books and comics though is one of the best. I didn't know about fantastic worlds either and I live in Chandler...haha

  13. Well you know with that email people will be submitting a lot more books up front before the price changes over. Is it a cash infusion to the business, who knows? It's not bad sure only between $2-5 dollars per book, but when you sub between 20-40 books per con plus submitting alot of books outside of cons that ends up cost a bit more. If you submit 2-5 books, who cares...but on a 25 book limit per invoice you're talking an extra $50 bucks minimum.

So this prevents any more blue labels being dropped off at conventions since that would be a paper form. Only yellow labels at cons... okay. Less to bring with me then I guess to each convention. Online forms not the best when using Chrome but hey I can live with more hassle and time spent trying to fill out the fields the way I want to.
