  1. The changes marked here:

    http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1786782&an=4&page=1#Post1786782

    Will be addressed.

Well, for me, almost everything about this new version is better minus the bugs with the exception of some color contrasts and a font tweak. WHICH, I fully agree needs adjustments and should be happening on Monday. But frankly isn't that big of a deal in terms of fixing it, so the heavy reaction is a bit much for me.

    Here's my list so far.

    1. Threaded PMs

    2. More convenient "jump forums" drop down at the top

    3. Ability to attach multiple files to a post

    4. System automatically "inlines" your attached images

    5. Highlight text and click a format button, and it adjusts the highlighted text.

    6. Faster performance - no it's not just the hardware and install. The new boards have an improved database structure and cleaner code base as well as more extensive use of caching to create faster page loads.

    7. Improved ajax-driven post preview function.

    8. Some nice new admin features, like the ability to merge two threads into one.

    9. Better navigation. The drop downs (aside from the IE6 bug) are a big improvement.

    10. Scrollable quote boxes and image boxes to prevent people from forcing a whole thread to scroll sideways with their excessive quoting or overly large pictures. Anyone tried that yet? Post a big picture like the one I have.

    11. More posting icons.

    12. Easier controls to watch a thread.

    13. Better security and various bug fixes.

    14. Cool drop down menus on user names in threads to offer a variety of options.

    15. Fun little mood indicators on people.

    16. Online/offline status visible in threads by people's names.

    17. Easy access in the "My Stuff" menu to a list of your own posts. (Hint: if you post something and can't find it... try this before PMing an admin? :) )

    18. Better calendar layouts.

    19. Cool new picture display in the user list.

    20. "Active text" which allows the system to automatically create links to specified words. Like say, CGC will link without me doing anything. Or registry. Helpful.

    21. The ability to create "sub forums", which I haven't used yet except to make a sub forum in the testing forum... Not sure what we'll use it for, but it SEEMS cool. ;)

  2. The only thing I find confusing is the selection of which OT posts are allowed or removed. I could see where it might be taken somewhat personally for someone to post an OT post only to have it wiped rather quickly while others remain and even get posted afterwards with no attention.

There is no exact science. If there aren't many popping up, we tend to ignore them. When the trend of OT posts gets too numerous, we run a quick skim through the threads and move a bunch. If your OT post was this week as part of a trend of too many, you'll get swept. If it was an isolated incidence on a mostly on-topic week, it might get left.

Also, some topics are more clearly way off topic than others. For example, a post about the TV show heros, while not technically about comic books is pretty clearly sort of comic book related through the super hero concept. A post about Battlestar Galactica... ok... not very comic booky but a pretty good bet to be of interest to the crowd.

A post about flying model airplanes... water cooler.

Essentially it's a process left to expediency and based on the general feel among the participants and moderators of whether CG is feeling too off topic. We will not be refining that process as it wouldn't be worth the time consumption. Please just utilize common sense and try to keep things generally on topic. Thanks.

  3. This is just a reminder that while there is considerable lee-way on what's allowed in comics general, including the occasional OT post, we do need to keep a reasonable limit on non-comic related posts. This is less a carved in stone limit than a general feel for the % of OT content.

The water cooler is the appropriate place for general banter.

    Thanks.

    Arch

  4. And finally understanding that JC would probably argue with a dead horse....

Per guidline 1, is it permittable to still sell comic related items ?? I have

some odds and ends from the comic book shop that have been packed

away for years, and don't have an attatchment for them, and thought of

selling. Mostly promo stuff, and event items.

Yes, items that are comic related are ok.

  5. THREADS STARTED TO ANNOUNCE UPCOMING SALES

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let's get some opinions on these.

    Vote and discuss please.

Needless hype and spam, or a favor for those interested so they can read and respond to the sale when it goes up rather than missing the opportunity?

  6. That's a good point and that's also a question I can't answer since I'm more of the dealer type and would, of course, frequent that forum. I'll defer on this one.

Who cares who frequents it? If I put up a WTB post, I couldn't care less who fills it. Lowest price wins. If a zilliion dealers respond to a WTB post, the price will come down.

I tend to agree with this. Why does it matter who responds? Will forum members be LESS likely to respond simply because dealers are responding also?

  7. I wonder if we could help meet banner's desire for more help with his hard to find books by instituting some WTB guidelines.

IS it entirely insane to make it a guideline that WTB posts should include title and condition notes, and price that you WILL buy the book for?

If we did that, would filling WTB requests on this forum become so convenient that dealers would take more advantage of respond to WTB posts (and so would other collectors) and thus obscure wants would be filled more easily?

Of course, it's up to you what you list as a price. $0.01, or $10,000. But if you do that, even if you low ball it a bit, you may find someone who knows you're close, and can offer the book you need to you "in that ball park"?

  8. I'm coming to this late, but here's my essential question.

    1) I list a book for sale on the forum. It is for sale NO WHERE ELSE.

    2) The book sits there for three days.

    3) The book doesn't sell.

    4) I then put the book for sale on eBay AFTER it has done steps 1, 2, and 3.

    5) Where does that thread go?

I hate to be a , but I'm not going to put any more Western Missouri books up until I get an official answer to this. I'm tired of people *spoon* all over my sales thread. I thought that I had followed every "unwritten" rule, and then came to see 100 posts about how I was pimping my books. The books from the Western Missouri collection will be put up here first, if they aren't sold within three days, I'll delete them off the thread and put them on eBay.

Somebody official tell me what the rules are for my situation, and I'll follow them.

I would go ahead and post it here. Make sure to explicitly say how long the sale will last if it has a time limit, and that they will go up on ebay once the time limit expires. Feel free to post on the thread to close it when the time expires, and to communicate what books have sold and what haven't. That's it.

If you want to advertise the ebay sale, go ahead and do it on the sales advertising board. Let's keep the ebay links out of this board to avoid gray areas where people might put things up on this board for short periods of time for outrageous prices just to get more play. We want to avoid that.

    Thanks,

    Arch

  9. Guidelines update

"Threads may be bumped three times total AND only ONE FULL DAY AFTER falling off of the front page. This does not include "sold" notices, or truly useful informational updates. Note: we CAN tell the difference between a real update and a fake bump-update. Tread that line at your own risk. If you're spam bumping, "lawyering" the rules will not save you."
