  1. A true new jumping on point for new readers isn't a bad idea, but I hope the violence and action don't get sacrificed. New location with new enemies and storylines is fine. But Invincible has been firing on all cylinders recently and a new creative style in storytelling isn't necessary.

Wow. I think this sums up my thoughts exactly. Well put.

  2. You said you needed TV or movies for sales now a days. Saga is one of the highest selling books with no TV or movie hype.

    You mean this?

That's what all the cool kids are doing these days, comics just aren't enough anymore.

I'll stand by that. You want big sales (like TWD previously mentioned), that's what you gotta do. Just a matter of time before Invincible and Saga go that route. These creators aren't dumb, they're in this for money. The transition to screen poses the biggest possible margin of profit and expansion of the properties, especially with the way the Hollywood market is eating up comic book properties.

I hope Invincible succeeds with the new format, i think it sucks the books changing, that's all. But who am I? Nobody. :hi:

  3. There is zero TV/Movie/Anything talk for Saga.

I thought I was in the Invincible thread.

Look at it as a business. If you had a property and you saw the market adapting to certain trends, why not take a chance to grow your business as opposed to being stagnant. It's not that they don't currently make anyone unhappy, it's just that any business goals should be for growth.

I get that. You gotta see that the undeniable growth for comic properties these days is the screen, not changing the said properties themselves. Thats what makes me nervous. I'm all for growth, you know this.

  4. The connection to TWD show is that as Walking Dead tripled in monthly comic sales since the show launched Invincible stayed the same, if not a slight dip. The Kirkman brand has grown exponentially but Invincible hasn't caught on beyond the die hard fans that it has always had for some reason.

I promise, if an Invincible show/cartoon/movie/whatever was announced today, sales would blow up just like TWD. That's what all the cool kids are doing these days, comics just aren't enough anymore.

  5. I interpreted other robs comment as being a shift from a straight-up superhero book into the latter.

I've always enjoyed Invincible as a superhero book with great characters. The writing/art has always been great, I guess I don't understand the change or the correlation to TWD show. I guess if we are talking about Kirkmans name being on both and that TWD show would bring Kirkman fans to trying Invincible, but, honestly, I'd guess a small fraction of viewers actually read the books, so, I'm missing it.

  6. They have a plan in place that was formulated by looking at what is selling at Image the most at this point. People are buying more slice of life, funny, quirky books than just bombastic Super Hero fights. It's been 5 years that Walking Dead has been out and it's never helped Invincible's sales at all. Making a change and taking a chance with a new outlook is worth a try. With sales at the same amount as they were pre Walking Dead TV Show, a change probably isn't costing a large number of readers and can only really help.

Man, if Invincible goes slice of life/funny/quirky, I'm done. Like you said, plenty of other Image books doing that.

  7. This was more slice of life, Saga-esque toned. This will be the norm for the book for the near future, so it does fit for a jumping on point because the book is really taking a different turn starting with this issue.

I guess. It seems you'd wanna make the jumping on point the best issue yet. Do you think the new tone will attract readers or lose them? Of course you'll say attract readers, but, man, I don't know. I hope it stays strong while Kirkman focuses on Outcast.

  8. Since we are all friends here, and fans of the book, maybe I can ask an honest question. After rereading 118 this morning, why would anyone want to "start" reading the book if this was their first issue? The recap looks like advertisements that I almost passed over and not one panel shows anyone's powers except for Oliver. I'm confused. I understand the timing, new era/start/life for our heroes, but, I don't understand the pace of the transition. Things are gonna be so crazy, comic book, yeah yeah yeah, but, let's have some bathroom banter and other stuff first.

Love the colors in this issue, Beaulieu nailed it.

  9. ... A well done Invincible movie series would be awesome :cloud9:

From your lips to Kirkmans ears, yo.

I guess I feel a little differently. I kinda feel like comics in general these days have all turned into a giant speculation machine. With sooooo many titles headed for either tv or the big screen, it's gotta be on everyone's (collectors) minds when something comes out. Seriously. I haven't even read Chrononauts yet, came out 2 days ago, and it's already picked up. Hopefully Kirkman is going to pimp the hell outta Invincible Universe.
