What really would have been okay is if the Swamp Thing #1 Wrightson SS hadn't turned up in the SAME WEEK!!!! I would love to have it as a companion piece, but I just couldn't swing both at the same time...

Could be the same individual_without_enough_empathy who did that to me. I offered full asking price. The seller delisted it and relisted later for more. No one has matched my original offer. I wish I could see who the seller is to boycott his azz. Wow. That's some right there. Deserves a boycotting.

Why? Why from me also? They didn't kill it off in the '90s, and I doubt they will now. It may cause a big contraction in the hobby as a whole when total saturation occurs and collectors walk away in disgust. Titles will get cancelled (perhaps), variants will diminish (certainly), if not disappear, and collector ranks will diminish (as they did in the '90s), but I really doubt it will kill it off completely.

No. I first (seriously) started collecting in 1991. The current variant trend chaps me just as much that era's nonsense did. I can (maybe) accept a variant cover (ONE, dammit) for a true milestone issue, ie; issue #500, but that's it. Upon my very recent return to collecting (lapsed in around 2000ish), I was very surprised and, honestly, a bit disappointed to see this going on.

Up to about 180 now. And a CGC, my first. Hell of a weekend spree for me... Now over 600, with slab #2 on the way. I really need to slow down... Nah.

Yeah, yeah... I know, I know... but I still LOVE this book. Brings me back to those first years of serious collecting. I think I had 50 of these. Right next to the 100 Spawn #1 and the 100 X-Force #1 and 200 X-Men #1...

Local retirement home yard sale this weekend. Nothing huge, but about 300 books for $30. Almost all '90s and modern, but as I've only recently returned to collecting, a great reader lot.
