  1. Heatin' up! First appearance is in DHP 11 and a 1 page PREVIEW in issue 10. http://www.ebay.com/itm/The-Black-Beetle-No-Way-Out-1-of-4-Francesco-Francavilla-/290861153068?pt=US_Comic_Books&hash=item43b8acfb2c
  2. After seeing the Yoda from the paperback I would say issue 41 is his first comic book appearance although i'm not sure what that means for Cracked 173 which came out the same month as Star Wars 41? Ok so the Marvel Super Special 16 and Marvel Special Edition featuring Starwars: The Empire Strike Back both pre-dated Star Wars 41. Marvel made sure they had these various versions of the comic on the shelf to coincide with the movie's release. Star Wars 41 would be the 4th printing of those pages (or the 3rd printing of the corrected Yoda.) You are correct about the dates, the Treasury was released in the spring and the Super Special had a date of 8/1/1980. Did the corrected Yoda appears in the Marvel Super Special and the treasury ed tho? We know that the ESB paperback is the first prototype Yoda. If the corrected Yoda appears in the treasury edition then that would be the first appearance. the same goes for the special edition.
  3. That PP black cover is going to make getting a 9.8 pretty difficult.
  4. After seeing the Yoda from the paperback I would say issue 41 is his first comic book appearance although i'm not sure what that means for Cracked 173 which came out the same month as Star Wars 41? This comes from the CB Database concerning the paperback: Definitely not a trade paperback, in the modern sense, but a more typical paperback novel size. This version of the story appears to be the original, because of corrections made to Yoda. His appearance here was done without the benefit of the final film design. Marvel artists didn't get to see Yoda until the film was nearly in release. Thus, the monthly issues correct (and necessarily postdate) the version seen here. Very technically, this volume is slightly predated by a black and white version of this book, which is really the very first comics version of The Empire Strikes Back. This version is quite rare, however, and details are hard to find.
  5. But issue 41 is not Yoda's first appearance in comics. And issue 42 is not Boba Fett's first appearance in comics either. Both issues are reprints from the Marvel ESB paperback 1st edition. Yoda is depicted differently in the paperback than he is in the comic (and subsequent printings of the Marvel ESB paperback.) I'm pretty sure the Marvel ESB paperback preceded issues 41 and 42 of the regular comics. Wow good find I know there are two versions of the paperback, one mass market paperback size and one the size in between the mmpb and tpb size. Do you know if they both have the early version of Yoda? Also, I believe this was also printed in Marvel comics super special 16, any ideas which Yoda is in there? The paperback was printed in May 1980 ( prototype Yoda? ) then printed oversized and printed in Marvel Super Special 16. I believe the oversized and Super Special came after the Paperback and Star Wars issues. I really want to see what the first Yoda looked like!

I'm pretty sure the Marvel ESB paperback preceded issues 41 and 42 of the regular comics. Yeah I was looking into that and I don't think the paperback qualifies especially in the case of Yoda who is not accurately represented in the book. The paperback predates the actual comic by a few months.
  7. Ant-Man vs Chihuahua If I were to write it issue one it would go like this: We follow Stella the Chihuahua from birth to rebirth. Her emergence into this world is violent but she's really cute. Slowly we see she is mischievous but still cute. As time goes by she does some questionable things to her owner and other animals. She has disturbing dreams and acts out malicious games in her head. Stella becomes fascinated with witnessing the death of anything and everything. By the end this adorable creature is also a twisted sadist who is is willing to gamble her own life only to trick her owner into oncoming traffic. Stella looses her leg but gains much more. Her crime is so vile, it is such a stain on the essence of all dogs that a a dark force overtakes her. She now has the power to shoot laser eyes and the ability to construct elaborate devices able to conquer the galaxy. Who will stop her from enslaving us all? Find out in the Ant-Man special: ????????
  8. I only read the trades... What happens in 11 & 12 to make them desirable? Invincible discovers the truth about Omni-Man & Viltrum and then they have their big fight. Ahhh yeah. That's when Invincible went from being a 'Good' read to a 'Really Good' read IMO. Not a fan on Invincible but a Hector Plasm story got me to buy them.
  9. Well that's all true. I wonder if there are Mark Jeweler variants for those 2 issues. Idk about #41 but #42 did. great, something else to track down.

  11. I'm pretty sure Yoda is a more recognizable character that Fett. Fett's vintage toys may be worth more but I suspect casual fans and even people who know next to nothing about the franchise still know the name. Yoda has crossed over into the public consciousness in a way Fett never can. ( By the way I am not a fan of Yoda! ) Fett has a huge following. Look at the 501st. I'm not saying he doesn't have a huge following but Yoda is more widely known, from casual fan to die hard to my 95 year old grandmother.
  12. it has... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Snapshot-1-Image-Comics-NM-1st-print-Sold-Out-Unread-Andy-Diggle-Jock-/121063859496?pt=US_Comic_Books&hash=item1c2ff7e528 *sniffs* I smell some shilllllllllll Would not surprise me (that or an anomoly)... still available for cover in loads of places. low feedback + private listing raises ebay alarms. Yeah do the homework before posting stuff like this. This one screams issue. Despite one questionable auction the writing is solid and the art is fantastic. I've seen a lot worse " heat up " and this one should even though it's part of a mini which many of you seem to dislike.

  15. I buy them from the 2000ad website, this listed there for £5.60. Thank you.
  16. See I still disagree with this. I see many auctions selling issue 42 and they advertise it as the first appearance of Bobba Fett. That issue is rarely seen in stores and in high grade demands a pretty penny. i just believe that people are failing to realize the importance of issue 41. Maybe collectors simply don't realize it's Yoda's first appearance. Look at all the other major characters, Solo, Luke,etc...they all appear first in issue 1 or 2 of the Marvel series and those books are all valuable.
  17. Because the toys are THE Star Wars collectibles. So then why do some star wars comics cost more than my car?
  18. So if Ridley Scott is producing a Mind MGMT film and that announcement causes a significant increase in value for those issues why doesn't Disney's announcing of a Yoda film do the same for Star Wars 41?
  19. Acquired that issue for half of cover, man those DHP issues are expensive.
  20. I completely agree. After the GOTG 2008 series was cancelled there can't be to many appearances of that group.
  21. yes, i realize its a full preview, but its a FCBD of a book that was released, and given the title "Issue 1", so even with the full book, it was still a preview. I think you have to look at desirability. Speculators and OCD collectors will want the book for it's FIRST in print status, but the majority of people will want the actual book itself, not a FCBD preview (even if its a full preview). anyway, that's just my thoughts, the market will decide. But if i was making a play on it, I'd be after the 9.8s of number 1. Major characters from this series appear first in the FCBD issue. It predates #1 and should make it the more valuable comic. If the FCBD issue were simply a 6 page preview of the series to come then we could argue but it's not.
  22. Anyone read Francesco Francavilla's BLACK BEETLE #1? It's quite good!
