I'd actually try to "rescue" the cover by removing the wax paper as much as possible, I guess you could make things worse but I'd still try ... even if the pieces of cover come apart I'd rather tape 'em up and enjoy the book that way than have to deal with the wax paper on top of the cover ...?

I think you may be coming away from this with the wrong lesson. The seller made a mistake, but the problem is with the long length of time it took to get noticed. I imagine everyone here would agree that if you had noticed the missing page earlier the seller would be obligated to make things right. It is debatable of course how long a "reasonable" length of time to inspect a book is, more than 3 months already seems like a lot to me.

That's strange, are you sure? I just checked and can still see the bidding history by clicking on the link - digits of the number of bids (sellers' ids are still hidden as they have been for years).
