  1. Hari - I'd be happy to be the gate-keeper as the original poster but honestly I'm not a techy guy and wouldn't know the first thing about getting everything set up. Perhaps Bill Cox could be convinced to host this informal "price guide" as part of the "Resouces" section of CAF? That would make the most sense and perhaps he could give me authorization to be the one keeper of the list?
  2. I would say that the $20-30k range for A-level Byrne panel pages is pretty proven by this point - both publicly and especially privately. Heck, even B+ level page are starting to go in the low-end of that range.
  3. I think every A level Clowes page would break 5k. Even average pages go for 4. While updated, how about this: 1. Please remove that Trimpe outlier. 2. Would change Bachalo Sandman to Bachalo Sandman/Death 3. Would Wrightson Frankenstein Plates be on this list? If so, 40K and over. 4. Paul Smith X-Men now should be 5-10K I think. 5. Miller 300 should be 20K to 30K. 6. Leach Miracleman should be 10-20K. Can we "lock" this list somewhere so people can't just change it on a whim? That way you can be in charge of updating based on recommendations? It's become a good resource and, although I know "buttock" was just joking, it's important that it can't be changed without oversight. I like the idea of locking it but not sure how that would be done. Is there a moderator that can chime in here?
  4. I like how this thread is seeing some action again.....maybe to really get it going again, we can add a new layer, a historical layer to be more specific. So, if we all pretty much agree to the A-level page valuations listed by price range for 2014.....what would they have been in 2006, 2001, 1996, 1991, 1986, 1981? I think it would be very interesting to see the exponential growth in values over the years - what spiked most significantly and when, etc. I'm open to suggestions on the year increments we use as others may have more knowledge of when certain spikes happened in the hobby. I was also thinking we could stick to those artist/runs that are currently at $10k+. So for example....and these values are NOT accurate but are just being used to show structurally how we could lay it out. Kirby Fantastic Four 2up 2014 - $40k+ 2006 - $20-30k 2001 - $10-20k 1996 - $5-10k 1991 - $3-5k 1986 - $1-3k 1981 - $500 Here are the other $10k+ artist/runs with their 2014 A-level interior panel page valuations: $40k+ Ditko Spidey Bolland Killing Joke Miller Dark Knight Returns $30-40k Romita Sr Spidey 2up Frazetta Creepy (Werewolf) Ditko Dr.Strange 2up $20-30k McFarlane Spidey Byrne X-men Gibbons Watchmen Wood Daredevil Kirby Tales of Suspense/Avengers Steranko X-men/Other $10-20k Wrightson Swamp Thing Miller DD/Ronin/Wolverine/Sin City Romita Spidey small-art Neal Adams Batman/X-men Kane/Sprang Batman 2up Cockrum X-men 1st run John Buscema Silver Surfer BWS Conan Frazetta Thun’da/Others Kirby/Stone Journey into Mystery/X-men 2up Bolland Judge Dredd Totleben Miracleman McKean Arkham Asylum Lloyd V for Vendetta Kieth Sandman Dringenberg Sandman Kirby FF small-art Everett GA work
  5. Thanks Mike, I believe Bechara has publicly sold some A-level JLA 21/22 interiors in the $5-10k range. Perhaps these Crisis pages are the exception but that's what I was basing it on.
  6. Is there a link to the article? Does not appear to be online yet. I'm on the comp list and just got my print edition yesterday. Eventually should make it to the archives: http://www.intelligentcollector.com/?show=archives Thanks. It will be auctioned in May?
  7. I'd be shocked if this didn't end up with one of the usual suspects. Even if there are outsiders with bigger bankrolls, only the diehards of the hobby have the capacity for rationalization and self-delusion required to bid this material deep into record territory. Yeah, no doubt that the usual 2-3 OA heavy-hitters are probably salivating right now over the prospect of taking down this piece. And they might. That being said, I expect that this piece will be heavily promoted and hyped which could attract folks from outside the hobby. Heavy-hitters from foreign, CGC-side, and Hollywood should not be discounted from entering into the mix.
  8. Is there a link someone can provide to the magazine article? I agree with Gene, as the very first appearance of one of the most popular comic characters of all time, that page should set new OA records in a few different categories. It would be a cross-over piece big-time in terms of attracting deep-pocket investors from in and out of the hobby.
  9. Hey gang, sorry for the delay in updating. Loving the feedback guys! Keep it coming. We seems to be getting near a semi-complete list of A-level interior panel pages that sell above $3k so as some have mentioned, perhaps we should start coming to a concensus on the multipliers/fractions of an A-level interior panel page that a B and C level page would achieve, as well as both splashes and......covers. As an interior panel guy I will be no help with these last two so I will rely on those that know way more about that segment of the hobby. So, here is the updated list with recommended modifications since my last update as well as a few additions I made: $40k and higher Kirby Fantastic Four 2up Ditko Spidey Bolland Killing Joke Miller Dark Knight Returns $30-40k Romita Sr Spidey 2up Frazetta Creepy (Werewolf) Ditko Dr.Strange 2up $20-30k McFarlane Spidey Byrne X-men Gibbons Watchmen Wood Daredevil Kirby Tales of Suspense/Avengers Steranko X-men/Other $10-20k Wrightson Swamp Thing Miller DD/Ronin/Wolverine/Sin City Romita Spidey small-art Neal Adams Batman/X-men Kane/Sprang Batman 2up Cockrum X-men 1st run John Buscema Silver Surfer BWS Conan Frazetta Thun’da/Others Kirby/Stone Journey into Mystery/X-men 2up Bolland Judge Dredd Totleben Miracleman McKean Arkham Asylum Lloyd V for Vendetta Kieth Sandman Dringenberg Sandman Kirby FF small-art Everett GA work $5-10k Totleben Swamp Thing Swan Superman 2up Kubert Hawkman/War Art 2up Sekowsky JLA 2up Perez Avengers 1st run Mignola Hellboy Buscema Avengers 1st run Marshall Rogers Detective Neal Adams Deadman/Green Lantern/Avengers Mazzucchelli Daredevil Born Again Starlin Captain Marvel and related Colan Daredevil Alex Ross Marvels/Kingdom Come Michael Golden Dr.Strange/Avengers Annual BWS Weapon X Jim Lee Hush/X-men Swan/Perez Superman Man of Tomorrow Kaluta Shadow Byrne Fantastic Four/Iron Fist Tony Moore Walking Dead Zeck Punisher/Spidey Kraven Last Hunt Gibbons Superman Annual 11 Bachalo Sandman Kelley Jones Sandman Sienkiewicz Elektra Assassin Simonson Thor (Simonson inks) Everett 1970's work Gulacy MOKF (pen & ink) Ditko Warren work Wrightson Warren work Ware Miller ASM Annual $3-5k Byrne Cap/MTU/Avengers 1st run Infantino Flash 2up Gil Kane Atom/Green Lantern 2up Perez New Teen Titans/Crisis/Infinity Gauntlet Art Adams Longshot/X-men Annual Ploog Werewolf by Night/Ghost Rider Aparo Batman 1970’s Michael Turner Superman/Batman Cockrum X-men 2nd run Paul Smith X-men Dillon Preacher Adlard Walking Dead Kirby Cap 2nd run/DC work Wood/Ingels/Kurtzman/Davis EC work Gulacy MOKF (other inkers) JRJR ASM 1st run Andru ASM Hernandez Love and Rockets Colan Iron Man 2up Clowes
  10. ...I can just see it "The All-New, All-Different 2014 Comic Art Price Guide: compiled BY collectors FOR collectors"
  11. For sure, I was thinking the same thing now that Ken has posted that killer MOKF page. I have no clue what Gulacy stuff goes for....can anyone provide some insight? I assume that the stuff he inked (issues 29 and 40) would be in the $5-10k while his other work would be $3-5k?
  12. Hey Rob! Thanks for the thoughts. I tried to base the info on both public sales and whatever private sales I knew of or had heard of. Obviously this list is not gospel but rather just my own observations on these sales. And yes, any second-hand value-info has to be taken with a grain of salt just as this list should be. This is why I have asked for any feedback on additions or modifications especially from those collectors who are much closer to certain segments of the market than I am. Therefore, if you have more concrete info on certain artist/run values, please share them and we can update the list accordingly. Thanks!
  13. I did see the Everett Subby GA page in Heritage sell for $86k a while back but hesitated to include it in the list as I don't really know that market. Where would he and his various popular runs fall in the list Mark? Thanks.
  14. Hey Dan, as I mentioned in the thread title, I encourage anyone to provide feedback on any additions or changes.I only included those artists/runs for which I felt I had a semi-good grasp of the market. I am not an EC guy and will leave it up to those that know that market much better than I to chime in with their thoughts. Thanks!
  15. Thank for the feedback however I know of at least a handful of sales (public and private) of A-level Kubert B&B Hawkman pages in the $5-10k range.
  16. With this list more than once I've had to second guess myself whether the range is speculative or based on multiple known data-points as I have tried to keep it to the latter. In thinking more about the Miller DD, I think for now it should stay in the $10-20k range for now for this reason. Similar to Wrightson Swamp Thing, I think A-level examples of Miller DD will start to command $20k+ prices, when/if it comes to market. Unfortunately (for me), it rarely does. Updated: $40k and higher Kirby Fantastic Four 2up Ditko Spidey Bolland Killing Joke Miller Dark Knight Returns $30-40k Romita Sr Spidey 2up Frazetta Creepy (Werewolf) McFarlane ASM $20-30k McFarlane Spider-man Byrne X-men Gibbons Watchmen Wood Daredevil Kirby Tales of Suspense/Avengers Steranko X-men/Other $10-20k Wrightson Swamp Thing Miller DD/Ronin/Wolverine/Sin City Romita Spidey small-art Neal Adams Batman/X-men Kane/Sprang Batman 2up Cockrum X-men 1st run John Buscema Silver Surfer BWS Conan Frazetta Thun’da/Others Kirby/Stone Journey into Mystery/X-men 2up Bolland Judge Dredd Totleben Miracleman McKean Arkham Asylum Lloyd V for Vendetta Kieth Sandman Dringenberg Sandman Kirby FF small-art $5-10k Totleben Swamp Thing Swan Superman 2up Kubert Hawkman/War Art 2up Sekowsky JLA 2up Perez Avengers 1st run Mignola Hellboy Buscema Avengers 1st run Marshall Rogers Detective Neal Adams Deadman/Green Lantern/Avengers Mazzucchelli Daredevil Born Again Starlin Captain Marvel and related Colan Daredevil Alex Ross Marvels/Kingdom Come Michael Golden Dr.Strange/Avengers Annual BWS Weapon X Jim Lee Hush/X-men Swan/Perez Superman Man of Tomorrow Kaluta Shadow Byrne Fantastic Four/Iron Fist Tony Moore Walking Dead Zeck Spidey Kraven Last Hunt Gibbons Superman Annual 11 Bachalo Sandman Kelley Jones Sandman Sienkiewicz Elektra Assassin Simonson Thor (Simonson inks) $3-5k Infantino Flash 2up Gil Kane Atom/Green Lantern 2up Perez New Teen Titans/Crisis/Infinity Gauntlet Art Adams Longshot/X-men Annual Ploog Werewolf by Night/Ghost Rider Aparo Batman 1970’s Layton Iron Man Mike Zeck Captain America Michael Turner Superman/Batman Cockrum X-men 2nd run Paul Smith X-men Dillon Preacher Adlard Walking Dead Kirby Cap 2nd run/DC work
  17. Those suggestions makes sense but a little hesitant to bump up Wrightson. Not that I disagree but I just haven't seen any public sales or heard of any private sales (once again of A-level panel pages) above the $20k mark. I do think it is imminent though. 19. Re Kirby JIM A-level panel pages, I think $10-15k is realistic. There were a number of really solid Stone-inked A-level JIM pages that sold across Clink and Heritage late 2012 into 2013 that were in that range. At $7-10k I think we are talking about B-B+ level examples.
  20. Thanks for the Gene. Regarding Kirby TOS, I know of three recent situations (1 offer and 2 sales) of A-level Kirby TOS panel pages in the $20-40k range. Keep in mind also that Albert had all of those Red Skull/Cosmic Cube pages for sale a little while back at strong prices and sold. My guess is that if some of the stronger pages from that book were to surface again for sale now, the prices would go for higher and thus be evenly more firmly within the range. I should mention that the range stated for Kirby TOS would largely be based on 2up sales.
  21. Keep the feedback coming guys, good stuff. Would love some input on post-1970 Kirby values and any others that merit at least $3k for an A-level panel page. 22. Great feedback guys, thanks. Some thoughts.... Hari: - I moved Romita Spidey 2up down a notch but there are definitely more than one data-point of A-level stuff going past $40k - Adams Avengers/GL - I did bump it down to $5-10k however there are data-points in the 10-20 range for A examples. The problem is that there is so little A-level Adams material that trades hands that I think people would be very surprised $-wise once some nice stuff becomes available. I think we got a taste of this when the GL84 pages became available. Felix: - I hate to admit that I don't know much about Sandman values, can you shed some light on values for A-level pages for the artist's you mentioned? - more Kirby, I agree but I was somewhat uncertain on what say his DC stuff would go for A-level pages across the various runs. Or for his post DC Marvel stuff. Would love to hear some thoughts on this. 23. Evening gang, With all of the recent renewed chatter about the future of the hobby and speculation over what will hold value and what won't, I thought it might be interesting to quickly map out which artists/runs garner what prices these days. My list below if based on what I thought an A-level panel page by that particular artist on that particular run would sell for based on public sales and whatever private sales I am aware of. Once again, these ranges are for A-level interior panel pages - not covers or splashes or the highly coveted A+ examples or strips. There will be many examples of sales that are higher than the ranges I've stated but these are typically for A+ level examples where frankly all bets are off and emotion takes control. I would love to hear any thoughts on any additions, changes, etc. Here it is: $40k and higher Kirby Fantastic Four Ditko Spidey Bolland Killing Joke Miller Dark Knight Returns Romita Sr Spidey 2up $20-40k McFarlane Spidey Byrne X-men Frazetta Creepy (Werewolf) Gibbons Watchmen Wood Daredevil Kirby Tales of Suspense/Avengers $10-20k Wrightson Swamp Thing Miller Daredevil/Ronin/Wolverine/Sin City Romita Spidey small-art Neal Adams Batman/Green Lantern/X-men/Avengers Kane/Sprang Batman 2up Cockrum X-men 1st run John Buscema Silver Surfer BWS Conan Frazetta Thun’da/Others Kirby Journey into Mystery/X-men Steranko X-men/Others Bolland Judge Dredd Gibbons Superman Annual 11 $5-10k Totleben Swamp Thing Swan Superman 2up Kubert Hawkman 2up Sekowsky JLA 2up Infantino Flash 2up Perez Avengers 1st run Mignola Hellboy Buscema Avengers 1st run McKean Arkham Asylum Marshall Rogers Detective Neal Adams Deadman Mazzucchelli Daredevil Starlin Captain Marvel and related Colan Daredevil Alex Ross Marvels/Kingdom Come Michael Golden Dr.Strange/Avengers Annual BWS Weapon X Jim Lee Hush/X-men Swan/Perez Superman Man of Tomorrow Kaluta Shadow Byrne Fantastic Four/Iron Fist Adlard Walking Dead Tony Moore Walking Dead $3-5k Gil Kane Atom/Green Lantern 2x Perez New Teen Titans/Crisis Art Adams Longshot/X-men Annual Ploog Werewolf by Night/Ghost Rider Simonson Thor Aparo Batman 1970’s Layton Iron Man Mike Zeck Captain America Michael Turner Superman/Batman Cockrum X-men 2nd run Colan Tomb of Dracula Paul Smith X-men Sienkiewicz Elektra Assassin Darwyn Cooke New Frontier
