  1. Comicbookinvest mentioned it in an article recently. For issue 31 the estimated that it had a print run of 200-300.

If they're still selling copies at their SDCC booth 5 years after the issues were published you should probably throw that 200-300 number out the window.

There was only like 1 or 2 of each variant for the Campbell books, plus none of the #18 variant, which I was on the hunt for:(

  2. I did not have any Elephantmen covers in my collection to this point, so I basically bought everything they had at the booth. I happened upon this set at SDCC:

Since I had never seen them before, I did a little research and could not find a real value on 31. 32 had 2 sales over $100 which I thought was crazy. Just how rare are these? Not that I would sell the set, just curious.

Nice set. How much did you pick it up for? I've been looking for 32. Comicbookinvest mentioned it in an article recently. For issue 31 the estimated that it had a print run of 200-300.

All of the variant books were $10 at the Elephantmen booth.

  3. so this happened yesterday at Denver Comic Con =)

Black Widow 6 :cloud9: Hard to find.. Hope that girl hits 9.8

    ~T

Agreed. The black widow #6 is one of his older pinup covers that can still be had for a good price. Plus how can you go wrong with a Scarlett johansson style black widow ?

So true, think I seen the last few raw's sell for 270-300$ will this book in 9.8 ever hit 1k ?

    :cloud9:

It deserves to be the next member of the JSC 1K Club

I would not hate it if that happened:p

  4. I come back to be like "oh, so I found one of those Ultimate Thor covers for cover price yesterday so I picked it up" only to see DScott is just making us all feel terribly inadequate again.

Dude, I'm just in awe. Amazing. I really feel like I need to get a sketch op from JSC at some point in the future.

So instead, here's my horribly inadequate cheap variant follow up.

Finally this book is starting to get some love. Glad I picked it up way back, before the "mentioned on CGC forums" tax:p

  5. I want to offer him $150 but I know, his greed would decline the offer because someone else will pay it.

    You're kidding, right?

Also, Silk #3 is more popular because it was not solicited as a JSC variant to retailers. It was simply listed as a variant. When it was announced it was too late for retailers to order more copies. Look at a similar timeline book like Ms. Marvel #2 '92 variant and it's not nearly as expensive because it was advertised to retailers as a JSC variant so they knew to up their order.

Nope, dead serious. $100 for the Raw copy, $35 for Grading/Slabbing, $15.00 for shipping = $150. Especially because the seller likely paid $15 or less for if they pre-ordered.

Reasons why I am trying to track down my own 9.8 candidate vs. paying someone else $400. I can still beat the $400 price point subbing myself, even if I buy a raw for $100 or more.

Yes, but how is a seller being greedy but wanting to sell it for market value? The formula you just presented would net him $0, actually he would lose money with associated fees.

Agreed. Just because a seller purchased the book at pre order price of $14 doesn't mean he has to pass the savings and price his book below market.

Trying to set the market, and at market are 2 completely different things. Being this is the 1st 9.8 I've seen for sale, I am 100% justified in stating that I <---emphasis here, could duplicate the same $400 supposed market value but getting the right raw, and subbing. Justification for the other $250 isn't there....therefore I am not going to purchase someone else's slab they are trying to flip.

On the other hand, if it were a more reasonable BIN, I might be more inclined to purchase it if it were around my cost to duplicate it, and willing to wait while it was graded. My patience is worth saving that "tax" as I described earlier.

The person who buys that book at or near that asking price it not going to sub a raw copy to start with, and is either getting it for PC and or is about to meet JSC and wants to crack it for a SS. Someone with no time to wait.

I'm not crazy, I'm just better at holding onto my money!

I feel the silk is overpriced at 9.8 anyway. Last sale went for $299. I would not pay more than $100 for that book but that is my opinion .my opinion and what the market values it at are two different things. A lot of these Campbell books are overpriced and not sure if we are in for a correction soon.

I certainly hope so. All this heat on Campbell covers is making my collecting of them quite a bit harder on my wallet.

  6. I don't think I've posted this one yet. Got it off Scott back around sdcc. Just recently added a few more to the collection this past week a well.

    562_zps9cjmapap.jpg

    Is that the original art?

Yes, our new house should be finsihed on the 1st if the builders stay on track and then she is off to the framers. Planning to do the office in all JSC OA.

    I cant even.........

I would not kill someone for OA of JSC, but I might be willing to do slightly less unscrupulous activities to get a page like that.

  7. Whats the deal with the Silk ## JSC 1:25 variant? it's selling for $100+ on ebay. is it a small print run or something?

Naw, just another cool JSC cover.

Saving mine for CGC SS opportunity.

It is a cool cover, but could be potentially a low print run, in comparison to other variants of his. it will be interesting to see the print totals, to get a better idea of how many will be floating around out there.

  8. Newbie JSC fan here....can anyone tell me what's the deal with ASM #648 cover. It appears the black and white/sketch was a 1 in 200 and the colour was 1 in a 100 but it seems like the colour is scarcer and carries a premium price over the sketch...what's the deal, any explanations???

Secondly the 10 most desired/valuable books from my research appears to be

    Uncanny 510

    Wolvie #1

    Siege #3

    ASM #648 colour

    ASM presents Black Cat #1

    Black Widow #6

    GOTG #4

    Superior Spidey #20

    ASM #4 (reverse negative)

Does the ASM #4 really belong on the list, and what would be #10th on the list???

    Any input is much appreciated.

    Jim

For his non-Marvel covers, I am really partial to the GI JOE/Danger Girl #2 and #3 variants of Baroness and Scarlett. I managed to get a baroness, but having a really tough time finding the Scarlett.
