  1. Seller's remorse set in immediately when the auction closed, Bob. I will never forget that book.
  2. It's easy to overpay for a collection that includes a good sampling of keys. That's why it's imperative for dealers to be conservative in their estimates of both value and grade. The problem for dealers is that they know if they're too conservative that they run the risk of the seller taking a pass on their offer. It's more an art than a science at this point. So being honest and up front with the seller is always the best approach. Instead of saying, "I'm paying top dollar for your books" it's better to say, "You've got some great books here and any comics dealer worth his salt will want them. Here's the thing, your books are going to sell for the same price no matter who sells them. So legitimate dealers, as a whole, will all pay close to the same price for your collection. My offer is strong and I've got cash to pay right now." Most sellers will understand that approach. it works for me.
  3. And this is why 90% of people with collections would rather sell to a dealer than go through the time and effort to sell them on their own.
  4. Not worth it, Bill. Late 70s - 80's DCs for the most part are the worst.
  5. I thought the cover girl may be Bettie. And Dan's avatar is an infamous porno actor.
  6. Hi Sha. I kept this book for years because I thought it may be Bettie Page... Haha...
  7. I'm not an expert by any means on Baker, but this sure looks like Coletta to me...
  8. No matter how it's sold, there are some very nice pieces in this collection. I would like a couple but they're out of my league.
  9. The seller told me that he shopped there in the 70s and 80s. I just googled it and there's no record of its existence. Another shop lost to the winds of time.
  10. Just bought a collection and found this customer bag and thought it was either a completely lame store or a very cool shop. Anybody know anything?
  11. The fact that the ashcan is # 1 is the coolest part of the story.
  12. Damage from all light is cumulative. Please keep it in a cool, dark, dry environment. Use a color copy of the cover!
  13. Agreed. Insurance companies will cover just about any situation if you're willing to pay the additional premium. Note my OP about higher premiums for no safe/security system in a residence.
  14. Even with the stamp and no writing it's a $5 copy. What a piece of work he is.
  15. This has probably been stated already, but I don't believe collector insurance will cover a storage unit. They want a home with a safe and security system. They will insure without the safe and security system but will often limit coverage and charge higher premiums.
  16. The syndicate would create promo packages and send them to each newspaper that subscribed to the feature. Since Caniff was still a big name his new strip, Steve Canyon got a lot of of interest and these promo kits made it easy to promote it to the paper's readers.
  17. I never comment about books that I consign that do poorly but I don't mind saying that you got a great book here at a great price. I wasn't happy with the LT/OW PQ but some timing issues prevented me from asking them to reconsider the PQ. Sometime in the future, if you decide to roll the dice, an 8.0 with C/OW could be the result.
  18. I saw the Action 1 FC in the bound volume in the DC vault back in the late 90s. The entire volume was brittle and crumbling apart.
