Marvel is a marketing machine first and foremost. Theyll smell a dollar and theyll go right to work.

Then theyll write a story around the dollar. To make it interesting.

I am not a fan of any of their schticks. But just like it made them money. It made me money

    So

To me, the whole GWEN/Spider-Verse thing, from a marketing/money making angle, is as huge as the whole Spidey Symbiote thing was (still is) in the 90s.

Venom being the biggest, as is Spider-Gwen. Gwenpool pulling a close 2nd, as is Carnage.

I dont think this will go away ever, only get bigger

I honestly don't think anyone at the comic division understands who, what, how their core longtime characters and readers have existed in such a bigoted, racism, misogynistic, etc society / world for so long.  They are hiring writers and artists to promote this social agenda of theirs to the point sales are way down.  And how do they respond?  Lets call more of our avid buyers these above words yeah that'll sell more books!  How can a marketing team not be fired and never employed again with that line of thinking is beyond me.  The customer is always right.   2c

My issue was how no one saw the Tiger get that close to Negan and his group without anyone saying... "Oh... Look! A Tiger! Shoot it!"

When a Bengal Tiger stalks its prey rarely does the prey see it before the stike.  Alexandia safe zone has lots of trees, grass, houses and high wall.  That tiger could have stayed hidden in a number of ways before it attacked.

Do you really think the tiger would announce its location with a giant growl as it started to run?  Its not cartoon time predators don't do heads up things like that.

No, it's not.   Look at February-   Only 5 of the Top 20 books were Marvel titles, two of which were Star Wars, two were Inhumans vs. X-Men and the third was Amazing Spiderman.

Meanwhile, The Avengers was 53, Totally Awesome Hulk was 121, Captain America Sam Wilson was 122.

Why is Avengers-their hot movie property, so low in sales, and it's clear the forced 'Legacy' characters are not working.   Alonso should be clearing out his desk.

The simplest answer usually is the correct one.  So in my opinion I think the sales are suffering is because of a lack of alignment.

Go see Thor in latest Avengers / Thor movies - go pick up a current Thor title its not him its Lady Thor.

Go see Hulk in Avengers / Hulk / Thor movies - go pick up a current Hulk title its not him its totally awesome hulk.

Go see Captain America  in Avenger / Captain America movies - go pick up a Cap current title its not really him, its Sam Wilson, well he's kinda there but always was a Hydra agent.

Go see Wolverine in the latest X-men / Logan movies - go pick up a current Wolverine title its not him its X-23, he's dead but there is a old man Logan around that is kinda him from another universe.

IP's I agree are the darlings and as far as I see things Marvel has their heads up you know where because nothing you see on or in the MCU even remotely tie into current books.

Plus what they did to the X-men last few years I'm out Marvel.  Like the authority said I'm out.....hello Indies2c

I truly thought this series was over. Seeing Mooneyham's art again makes me smile all over. Hopefully, we can get more people to give it a try this time around... :wishluck:

    You had doubt!  :baiting:

I really enjoyed Rick & Michonne's Zombie Carnival Adventure Show, but let's face it, if the zombie apocalypse hadn't come along, TV Rosita would be that crazy ex-girlfriend that drives by your house at night to see if your car is still in the driveway.  She's going through an awful lot for a guy that dumped her.

She has issues while I just have back issues.  lol

LOL!!! Because he sucks and everyone hates him now. love it.

I can't see the adamantium being porous given its "unbreakableness" (its a word). My money is on the AoU wolvie. I think if one of them actually died they definitely would have showed it as a shock factor thing.

The Wolverine inside the shell AOU was a Skrull and the AOU Wolverine traded places while the real Wolverine did cave carvings and took lots of naps.

With the Marvel Universe movies being so successful, and universally being loved around the world we would think Marvel Comics would use the Marvel movies as a benchmark to base their comic books on,but no Marvel Comics goes in the opposite direction. I think it`'s a sort of arrogance of the comics division's part as in hey the comics were first, and they know better. except  the movies are based on the real Marvel Comic  characters, and not the current crop.

+1 For a company this successful they sure are not lining up their current movies with the current lineup at all.  You would think both would be in balance.  I think Marvel missed a opportunity to synchronize a reboot of all their major books - Thor, Hulk, Captain America, Avengers etc all prior or around the time Iron Man MCU results were in and start a new legacy numbering with it.  2c

The only bit I meant to defend is that they're trying something in an attempt to attract new readers - I hope I'm very clear in what I'm not defending them for... hint: it is their generally crappy stories.

No worries.  Maybe they realize this "experiment" sales wise didn't work out so well now that DC is kicking their collective hind quarters with their Rebirth launch.  I had this discussion a couple weeks ago with friends and my point to them was why can't these legacy fill-ins have their own identity / mantle without leeching onto their original.  For instance Tony Stark (Iron Man) make a suit for Riri and not his suit / name.  What is really bad is X-men last 2 years I've stopped buying and I'm sure I'm not the only one.  I honestly don't think Marvel even knows who / what made the x-men who they are.

To Marvel's defense... we're all gonna die eventually - they need to attract new readers. I think we're all just in agreement that they're going about it the wrong way. Look at the books that have successfully attracted people who identify as non-comic readers... perhaps try to create some books that do some of the same things.

Don't feel a need to do it with characters that already exist, create something new.

That really isn't a valid defense considering Cap is still around after 75 plus years.  My grandfather used to read issues when he was a kid and so did my father.  They are both gone now so why is Cap still around?  These characters that have longtime following become brands unto themselves and when you mess / swap and turn off long term fans to try and grab new ones you end up confusing several demographics at once.  If something that is old can't translate well then why do Pepsi, Coke, Mercedes, BMW, GE and on and on use same logos for their brands.

  10. Maybe he's coated in generic adamantium that didn't really hold up as well as original adamantium. Times were tough and it was a little cheaper....got 3 out of 5 stars on google shop so didn't seem like a bad way to go at the time.

For F@k sakes, I knew it. Always comes down to money. Budget budget budget. Ugh.

Even super secret super-human manufacturing facilities like Department whatever or Weapons Plus or Weapon X run short on money. Especially when a certain someone is promising to slash budgets of government programs.

I heard there's a new rule that you have to eliminate two ultra secret black ops hidden spy agencies for every new one you create now. That's gotta play havoc with the budgets...

Difference is in comic books money is no object oh wait the same applies to real life politicians. After all 20 trillion in debt hole is just a scratch right?

  11. X-men Resurrection is most likely when he'll return. I read a interview somewhere a few months about how all these legacy characters that have been holding the mantle will lead to the originals coming back i.e Original Thor becomes worthy again, Tony Stark takes over Iron Man and Wolverine etc. Seems the most likely route there are taking.

  12. Yeah, I'm not sure what it means. I'm still a fan too. It may just have to do with the flailing nature of the comic and movie series over the last decade or more, who knows?

I think an over saturation of McFarlane art is the most obvious and likely answer.

    -J.

Not to pick on JSC specially but the same could be said about his covers. Not rare and all over the place. 2c

The topic was in regard to original art prices.

Maybe so but my response is still valid. There is over saturation everywhere on these "hot" artists
