  1. Hey G.A.tor, This will be my first time asking the Gainsville Guru of Funnybooks a question so from the back of the audience...This question involves the CGC census...At the ripe age of 29 I have takin' a HUGE interest in the Golden Age and I am trying my best to be as informed as possible when making purchases as well as just rounding out my overall knowledge of the subject matter. I have recently taken a particular interest in Timely books and am in the process of acquiring a Captain America Comics #3. Without being too longwinded have you ever heard of issues with CGC not updating their census or do you think this particular issue could just be a one time blip of a copy flying under their proverbial ,"radar"? When looking at the census it says that there has been zero copies of this particularly phenomenal issue graded at a Universal Blue Label 2.5 yet here is one that sold in 2006 http://comics.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=820&lotNo=3578 hmmmm??? Another example of this same issue is that on the census it states that there has only been 1 graded at a Universal 3.0. yet I see this one... http://comics.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=7021&lotNo=93158 and I see this one... http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=505915 Clearly not the same book right!!!!!! Anyways, sorry for my first question being so long but it is important for me I feel to gather as much info as possible to make sound decisions and it looks like CGC is making this book look scarcer on their census than it possibly really is. Have you heard of this issue before or am I just ? Thanks man!!
  2. Very informative...great stuff to know Bill1 thanks dude
  3. Thanks Man!!! I think it is very important to plan prior to any kind of undertaking with your collectables. When my wife and I built our home about a year ago I knew going into the build which room was going to be for, "my stuff" and I actually had them remove one of the windows that was on the original plan so I would not have to worry about natural light coming close to my comics. The other thing to take into consideration (NOTE- I am by NO means any kind of expert in this) is that I believe any kind of unnatural light whether it be fluorescent, halogen, or simply a regular yellow bulb may also fade your books as well. I am not sure as to what the degree is but it is probably best to minimize this as much as possible. We have an understanding in our house not to turn the lights on this room if not need be I did for the pics just so you guys could get a better idea of the room. This room however is not to be confused with a dungeon by any stretch of the imagination. I mean the whole reason I put the books up in the first place was so I could enjoy them without having to pull them out of a box all the time. To answer your question, I have had NO issues with fading whatsoever and I have been displaying my books since 2005 when I bought my first home. The setup was quite a bit different but my though process about the safety of the books was the same. I do have a couple really dark books too (ex. Batman 227) Anyways I wish you nothing but the best as you move forward with displaying, "your stuff" It puts a huge smile on my face every time I come in here (like right now and I really get a kick out of my friends and families faces when they come in here and see what I have done. It is always a work in progress but it is a labor of pride and joy!! Thanks again, good luck, and take care!!!!
  4. I see that Overstreet lists the 4th book as All-American #16, but I think that book has faded in terms of collector interest. Do you agree, Gator? (I'd go with Batman 1, Captain America 1, and Marvel 1 as the next 3, in that order.) Now I have NOOOO business discussing these books in particular as I have never even held one of them so my opinion and a buck probably wouldn't afford you a cup of coffee in most places but I thought I could share some interesting info on recent sales from over on GPA...They all agree with what Jimbo_707 was saying...examples Batman #1 - had 2 sales I saw in 2012 both CGC 2.0. Dec 2012 - PQ:OW $25,055 and Aug 2012 - PQ:Cr-OW $30,155 Captain America #1 - CGC 2.0 June 2012 PQ: OW-White but the cover was re-attatched w/ 3 pieces of tape and it had tape on 3 of the center wraps and still sold for a whopping $24,100 Marvel Comics #1 - couldn't find a 2012 sale but the last recorded GPA CGC 2.0 was in 2008 (No cert # so unknown PQ to me) but that sold in Dec 2008 for $21,500 All-American Comics #16 - Now there were no 2.0 sales but a CGC 3.0 sold in July 2012 PQ - slightly brittle for only $17,925. I know the PQ probably affected the sale but IMO the 1 point bump from a 2.0 to a 3.0 should have easily made up the difference. Anyways, the point I was trying to make is that Jimbo is a GENIUS :applause:Continue on men...I will watch from the sidelines as the rest of this plays out as I am interested as well to hear who rounds out this list!!!!
  5. Thats Awesome Thanks Man!!! My Gosh could you imagine if that sucker was the real deal. I would literally be
  6. Hey everybody, I am just gonna keep calln myself the new guy here for awhile but thought I would share the books I got in the mail yesterday from CGC. Nothing real spectacular here just wanted to share...thanks...NOTE the All-Star Comics #3 is a Don Maris Reprint not an original. I just wanted it slabbed to add to my Wall-o-Slabs ((as it has been deemed here by the boardies)) I also figure since it was published around the mid 70's and still in pretty good condition I believe that it could become mildly collectable in its own right!! Any All-Star #3 deserves some kinda Love in my book!! IMG_3790 by gino2paulus2, on Flickr[/img]
  7. Thanks Mark1. I greatly appreciate it man!! I figured as long as they were not going to be hit by the sun in ANY way it would be ok as I believe even in a slab fading would be an issue. At least I dont have to to worry about spine-roll!!!! My 2 year old daughter and her friends were the only thing holding me back so I installed a Schlage keypad lock for when my wife does her play-dates at my house. Maybe a little over the top, maybe not!!
  8. That is one awesome room RedFury!!!!!! It looks like you have a great wealth of back issue reading to be had in that office. I really enjoy how you separated the Marvels and the DC Archives but kept them close. Nice bookshelves man!! I know that this is about the comics but I wanted to comment on you having some really elegant furniture as well...looks AMAZING-MAN (homage to the slabbed book on the desk wink) I also have to say I LOVE LOVE LOVE the framed More Fun #54 that you have above the desk. Did you have that professionally framed? Is it a print and if it is where did you obtain it? Awesome Thanks! Yeah, I put the Amazing Man on the desk as an Easter egg for you guys to find. The More Fun 54 is actually an original art re-creation done by Shelly Moldoff. So is the All-Star 3. They are both professionally framed, yes. Super Awersome!!!!!

And that Amazing Fantasy #15 is spectacular IMG_3635 by gino2paulus2, on Flickr P.S If you have a second and are into this cover it doesnt get much cooler that this. 16. Thats awesome man...Great Minds think alike Right?!!!!!
  17. Thank you kind sir...Just in case anyone was wondering all of those boards are really inexpensive so this whole look can easily be achieved without breaking the bank as well!!!
  18. Thanks a lot guys I appreciate it ...Actually it was relatively easy and not even that time consuming. I do not fancy myself to be much of a ,"handy" man and I was able to pull it off no problem. I basically made a plan of how many shelves I wanted knowing first that I wanted a minimum of 4.5 ft off the ground for the first shelf (I have a 2 year old daughter and anyone with children knows how curious they can be hehe!!!) I do have 9 foot ceilings in my house so that gave me a little extra height to work with, especially since the CGC's are the books I wanted to display and they are a bit taller than your normal bagged and boarded book. As for the shelves themselves I pretty much just went to home depot originally looking for a crown type of molding that wasnt too bulky because if you are putting a book up that high you wouldnt be able to see the bottom of it. I also wanted it big enough that I wouldnt have to worrry about them sliding off. Anyways, I did not find anything that fit the bill so I decided to construct my own. I wanted them to look like ,"floating" shelves and I wanted them to be super sturdy so I chose a brick mould for the base. I will attach a photo of the mould that I chose from home depot. You just tell them how long and they will cut it for you in the store. IMG_2419 by gino2paulus2, on Flickr[/img] The regular base board that would normally go around the bottom of your walls and around your doors and stuff has tiny grooves in it so the books can rest against them IMG_3680 by gino2paulus2, on Flickr Once everything was properly secured (don't forget to hit those studs when securing the brick mould to the wall!!!) I just filled in all the screw holes with a regular wood filler, waited for it to dry, sanded it down a tad, and painted the finished product white. The stuff that I chose was already prepped white so it was not that daunting a task. Once you are done you can see it all looks like one piece that is just hanging on its own ready for your comics to display. IMG_3681 by gino2paulus2, on Flickr Thanks for looking and enjoying!!!!
