These are the 2 covers of Hallow’s Eve #1 that I picked up. She may be a decent long term bet. I collect Artgerm everything so even if it doesn’t hit, still happy 😊

I’m always amazed by the number of Marvel’s villains who had “green” as a primary color. It was almost a prerequisite for early Spider-man baddies. Purple is another color that was used quite a bit in early Marvel. Any significance to the use of these back then ? Hulk was green and used to wear purple pants so he could’ve been a double threat as a bad guy. Hahaha 😝

I like this topic a lot. I sold The Authority books for quite a good return the first couple of years it was out. I ended up repurchasing more #1 issues of that series than I had when they first came out. DC makes an announcement last month and I sold a bunch again. I hope to buy them again in the future but kept a few copies. Sat on Wytches #1 for 7 or so years and then, boom, there it goes too. Books that come to mind that are dirt cheap that I’m still sitting on. The Ultimates #1. Seems like a no brainer. The Avengers movie always felt more inspired by this run than most Avengers stories and especially looks of the characters. Jupiter’s Legacy #1. This series was pretty great and it’s amazing to me that a bad Netflix show killed it’s value. Netflix and Millarworld are taking another swing at these characters and the potential is still there. Michael Turner superhero books. He was as cool as McFarlane at one point. Very sad that we lost him so soon. His art was outstanding IMO. Rat Queens #1. This book was great looking, fun, irreverent, and the characters were easy to like. It’s amazing that this wasn’t a bigger hit. The artist killed it and that sucked for many reasons but the book itself is outstanding. Hawkeye #1 ( Kate Bishop ). She’s a good character and as she ages, she become more interesting. She and the original Hawkeye fit like a glove. There is no need to choose when you can enjoy them both. When you compare the price of her #1 to Ms Marvel #1 (Kamala Khan ) and Spider-Gwen #1, the book seems like a safe bet. East of West #1. Bet you guys would’ve never guessed it….lol New Avengers #1 volume 1 Having a dozen long boxes of stuff like this, we could go a very long time discussing opportunities. These are books that I still buy regularly that are the first that came to mind.

Purely great with no explanation needed. 1. Kingdom Come 1. Batman The Dark Knight Returns 1. Sin City A Dame to Kill For 1. The Watchmen Almost there Civil War because it made me hate one of my all time favorite characters while making me admire a character I’d lost interest in. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen because it made me care about characters I no longer cared about. Made them relevant again. Jupiter’s Legacy because issue #3 ranks up there with Miracleman #15 in one of greatest “ I can’t believe they did that” moment. Very underrated miniseries. The Ultimates because The Authority volume 1 is 29 issues😆 and this run is as close as Marvel ever got to replicating that book’s feel. Superman Doomsday Hunter Prey Because it was a very imaginative origin story.

On the flip side, it was $100 book before it ever saw a dollar bin 😝 I remember selling sets of 1-12 for $150-200 in the early 2000s. There are still some sleepers out there. Planetary is nearly an equally awesome story to me and some others think it was the better of the two series. It also used to bring good money for a #1 and the preview issues. Something tells me that Action Comics #775 could be the next book to jump back up. It’s DC’a answer to how or if Superman could take on the Authority. probably my favorite single issue ever. My gut tells me that The Authority could be the monster part of gods and monsters. Although they have a moral compass they make the Seven, from the Boys series, look like Boy Scouts when it comes to fighting or problem solving 😝

I’m glad you’re well. It’s mostly ice here too. Couldn’t make it up my driveway last night but it cleared off today. Stormwatch Volume 1 #37 features the first Jenny Sparks who was the leader and attitude of the team and Jack Hawksmoor. Stormwatch Volume 2 #4 features the first appearances of Midnighter and Apollo. The Batman and Superman of The Authority. Then the issues you named. Issue #1 featured the style that I believe led to what was used in the First Ultimates run. The Ultimates seemed more like the MCU Avengers , especially Captain America imo. Stormwatch 37-50 Stormwatch Vol 2 1-12 Wildcats Aliens prestige The Authority 1-29 were all great stuff. All written by Warren Ellis and Mark Millar. Art was by Hitch, Neary, and Frank Quitely. Sprawling story

There isn’t a person on the planet happier about The Authority than yours truly. I tried to sell Batman 655-657 last month with no takers. Pretty thrilled about that announcement too. 💪😎

I love this stuff too. The early to mid 90s may not be remembered as the greatest era of comics but it was what drug me back in after a 4-5 year hiatus. Are you getting your typical sales this time of year or is the volume down ? I have lots of runs and sets I’d like to list. Normally, the next 8 weeks are my prime selling time but I’m a little leary of auctions right now. What’s your opinion ?

Before giving a complete response to this, I agree with you that’s why I said since Spidey. I’ve had good luck with Wolverine books. Besides the miniseries, from the ongoing run, #1, #8, #10 Vs Sabretooth, #17 for the cover alone, #88, #154 and #155 the Deadpool books, etc. In my opinion, Wolverine is the primary reason Giant Size X-men #1 brings the money. While Nightcrawler, Storm, and Colossus are all well loved, I have better luck with Rogue related books than the three of them. Then you have stuff like MCP 72-84, Hulk 340, and the like. Then there are the X-men books. Wolverine is the key driver of both those series ( Volume 1 and 2 ) at least as far as I can tell. There are many keys there. Starting with Giant Size #1 on up into the high #200s. Are the majority of his own series inexpensive ? For sure, but the MCU has been magic for some books that were once 50 cent and dollar bin fodder. Iron Man 100 up used to also lack winners short of 118, 128, 149,150, 282-284, etc. Thor ( 337 ), Fantastic Four 200 and up ( outside of a couple of years of the Byrne run ) didn’t used to carry a lot of winners either. Even the Avengers were cheap fro 200 up which essentially takes place during the same time perios. Now they carry at least more than a few winners . Wolverine books will likely experience the same type of thing once the X-men show up. Not today that they will all immediately turn into winners but I project more than a few of them will be. In the meantime, I’d never debate Spider-man vs Wolverine. Spider-Man is a more relatable character to the majority of people who read comics imo. I regularly buy both. I’m thankful for the $1 bin books. Especially Wolverine, the X-men, The Authority, and a few more. I collect them all. Hope your business is doing well and picks up during Christmas and New Years. 😊

Haha. I may buy a set. Don’t know how good the miniseries was but it’s hard to go wrong on a Spidey book. Especially with two of them. I don’t think you’re wrong to hold onto issue #1. People/collectors definitely don’t seem to care for cameos…until they sometimes do. I can’t keep up. First time meetings is a thing I see lasting into eternity like first covers, etc.. Glad to know about both of these issues. 👍

What happens in Spider-men #2 ? Haven’t read it.

Bought and read the first 100 issues. I enjoyed it but not to the point where I wanted to continue beyond that issue. It was the slickest looking book on the shelves for a long time. I kept issues 1-30 and sold the rest. My issue #1 is now a CGC 9.8. The books held up well even after reading them. I also had a few miniseries like Angela 1-3 and a 4 issue run written by Alan Moore. Read Sam and Twitch for maybe a year or two. Loved all of those books.

With James Gunn involved with DC movies and shows, it’s possible. There was a time when Superman was the the talk of the town. Later Batman, the X-men, and Spider-Man. Then the MCU kicked into high gear. The only constant has been change. In 2020, Batman Beyond was selling for slightly more than UF4. The characters are very similar in design and in how they follow the legacy characters Batman and Spider-Man. While I wouldn’t call Batman Beyond #1 rare by any means, it is rare for a modern comic bringing this kind of money not to have more graded copies on the census. Do they exist ? If so, why are there so few graded in comparison to UF4 ? It would be great to see them in live action movies or series. We know that they both work well in animation. I’m betting that over the long haul, both will increase in value. At what rate, who can say for sure ?

Yes, that seemed high to me too. So I went back and looked at the books they said he appeared in on their list. There are over 50 foreign issues on the list. Not sure if some are unique stories but I tend to doubt it. There are also a good number of reprints. Still, I was surprised to see how many he’s actually in because there is only so much that I can, or that I’m willing to read. Its apparent to me that Marvel/Disney has him in heavy rotation. Where would we find more accurate numbers ? I’ll make corrections. As for the upside ? I heard this when Ultimate Fallout was $10, $20, and so on. Maybe they go up, maybe they go down. Everything in my collecion seems to be going down right now compared to last year, but up compared to 5 years ago. Neither of us know which way they’ll head for certain.
