  1. We can talk about a falling market until it isn’t anymore. This isn’t a question of whether or not it’s a good time to buy these books but which is the better bet going forward. Batman Beyond/Terry McGinnis is a fan favorite based on a TV series that ran from 1999 to 2001. A comic miniseries also started in 1999. According to Comicvine, Terry has 384 comic book appearances. He also had his first video game in 2000 which didn’t pan out so well overall. Miles Morales/Ultimate Spider-Man is also a fan fave. That said, popularity was slower in coming. He first appeared in comics in 2011. Miles has 1006 using Comicvine as our source. His first big hit was a PlayStation video game. Then 2018 brought the breakout animated movie Spider-Man Into the Spider-verse. He’s also made various animated TV shows and appearances. He has another animated movie coming out in 2023. Neither of these characters hit it big from comics though now, they both have huge followings in that format and more. Disney is pushing Miles into every potential format possible. It appears safe to say that he has the larger name recognition at this point in time. What is to keep Warner Bros. from doing the same thing with Terry. He’s another interesting character with unlimited potential as far as storytelling goes. He’s been well received once, so why wouldn’t they pursue this in the future ? My opinion? Terry may never be as popular as Miles due to the enormous push from Disney for the latter. Still, it’s hard to imagine that there are 9 Miles collectors for every 1 person collecting Terry’s book. Here’s some food for thought. There are more than twice as many Ultimate Fallout #4 in 9.8 as there are Batman Beyond graded copies from 0.5 to 9.8 combined. What are their intangibles ? Which stories other than their first appearances matter or have potential ? Are there any better modern picks than these ? I really can’t decide but feeling like there might be reasons for both to have at least a chance to be the winner. Diclaimer: I still own 7 copies of CGC graded UF4 and 1 of Batman Beyond 4. Batman Beyond 1 9.8. 411 9.6. 451 9.4. 232 Total 1568 graded copies Percentage of total graded 9.8 26.2 9.6. 28.8 9.4. 14.8 UF4 9.8. 3642 9.6. 4021 9.4. 2322 Total 14054 graded copies Percentage of total graded 9.8. 25.9 9.6. 28.6 9.4. 16.5
  2. Could be. 2009 through 2102, maybe even 2013, worked out well for buying and later selling too. It was slower but the only time that I remember what I’d call a crash would be the mid to late 90s. There was never a better time for buyers than then. Anecdotally, last year was the first year of the 2000s that selling comics accounted for over 10% of my income so I’m definitely more the collector than a retailer. It was a once in a lifetime kind of thing. That said, always been lucky and mostly stayed ahead of trends. Gut says buy.
  3. I’ve bought and sold a lot on ebay over the last 20 plus years. Bought and sold elsewhere for 40 plus. This has been one of the best times to buy that I can remember. It’s also a great time to buy collections. The last 2 years were great for flipping. This year, people are just dumping like prices will never go back up. They always go up over time though we do have periods like these that last a year…or three hahaha. Bronze to Modern age books have been the best books to buy imo. We have a plethora of people on all forms of social media and YouTube suggesting Silver age is the only way to go. Maybe so but its a little more risky when everyone thinks the same way. I’ve always had much better results with the newer stuff. Enjoy the buying opportunities because nothing too good or too bad lasts too long.
  4. It’s amazing that a book is first stapled, folded, unfolded, stapled again, then folded a second time will still get a 10.0. is there anyone here that works in this type of printing process who will explain how difficult it would be to end up with this result ? Having sent in more than 1000 books to be graded and never receiving anything higher than a 9.8, this pushes the boundaries of belief. That original cover’s gold line would doubtlessly be stressed. Or not
  5. No doubt about it. I’ve enjoyed Whatnot up until this point. It’s fast moving and there are deals to be had there. I don’t believe I’ll let the few who disappointed everyone to change my opinion on the app. I’ve purchased about 30 or so books there so far. Packages have arrived in a timely manner and all but 1 have been as described. It may not be for everyone but books are moving quickly there. Social media savvy people do have the advantage of more viewers right now but we can use this site too and we’re pretty good at selling ourselves. Once I figure out how to get eyes on my books, I’ll be listing thousands of books. At the moment, eBay seems off, Maybe it’s the economic conditions but I’ve been selling there for more than 20 years. Don’t recall it being this off in that period of time. other than this, comic shows seem to be working well too. Unfortunately, work doesn’t allow me the time to hit those at present.
  6. So I have the day off and decided to check out Whatnot again. Things seem more like eBay today. Saw one guy bragging about 10 UF4 books at C2E2. Pretty tone deaf. They move a lot of lots on the site for decent prices but there aren’t nearly as many BIG sellers as I initially thought. Still going to try this site for selling but not nearly as excited as I was a week ago. so what’s 🔥
  7. C2E2 exclusives bringing big money on Whatnot. ComicTom has over 500 people watching. I’m glad to see some fire somewhere because eBay is dead at the moment. I can see this way of selling growing significantly as the place brings the excitement.
  8. Just signed up as a seller on Whatnot. Plan on listing stuff after a little more study of sales patterns. So far, they seem somewhat inconsistent. After 21 years on eBay, selling is pretty simple. Have only invested 1 month buying on Whatnot. Still excited about it. Spent an hour last night watching Liefeld doing Deadpool sketches and selling old preliminaries. His stuff brought crazy money. It was a fun show.
  9. These are some that I haven’t posted yet from a little while back.
  10. Thanks very much. Usually send in more consistently but sent a bunch at once this time. Pretty happy overall. One box was just completely off. 14 more were close give or take a few each direction. 😊
  11. TATs were better than advertised when I sent the books in to CGC. Pretty pleased with the speed. Grading however is inconsistent. Most Pre-Screen were in the 80-92% range which is typical for my old submissions. In one particular Modern Pre-screen lot of 25, only 11 passed screening while 15 were rejected. Yes, 26 answers on a 25 question test How is this possible ? One book received both 9.8 and Reject This isn't a valuable book but I liked the cover. I intended to make it a gift. Spoke with customer service and let them know whoever graded this lot needs more training or at the very least, a second set of eyes on their results. Customer service was Grade A as always. 011 Iron Man 12 11/21 Marvel Comics Variant Edition REJECT 9.8 WHITE

  13. Bought a couple of the most recent Black Panther #3. The covers were separated from the rest of the book. Ridiculously low quality paper. Very thin and it waffles/waves easily to boot.
  14. Some are huge, some not there yet. Anecdotally, I've purchased UF#4 for almost 40% less than I sold them for last year. While we may not be at the bottom of pricing, the odds were good enough to pick up a few. Some things have just tanked. For example, Eternals #2 in CGC 9.8 was selling for more in mid 2018 than 3 of them have sold for since 3/20/22. last sale on GPA is about 28% of 2021 GPA averages. While the movie didn't help things, a 40 plus year old book with a pretty significant first appearance seems somewhat less expensive than it should be imo. Personally just trying to buy between the cracks. There are a good 50 or more books on my target sheet. Unfortunately, there are books that would surprise me if they recovered to last year's highs for year if ever. There was just so much cash being spent last year.
