  1. I have a 9.2 raw Sandman 8 LE that I refuse to grade so I can actually see the editorial. cgc is good for sellers but bad for collectors in this case. most die hard sandman fans simply aren't worried about owning a slabbed Sandman 8 LE. Its the Harley quinn cosplay girls that collect this ..
  2. great news. I figured they'd do a 'thessaly tv series before they did a major deity show, heck even books of magic/House of Secrets would work, but I dunno about Lucifer. I always thought a show about Hob Gadling would be brilliant. Interesting news. thanks for posting!
  3. What is going on with Warlock? James Gunn or Joss Whedon forget who, just said in an interview that Warlock's cocoon is in fact, in the post credits scene to Thor 2, and that it is Hatched aboard the collectors ship or w/e in Guardians.. in gotg you see a hatched cocoon briefly. Also Joss is a big Warlock fan so I think they've been secretly trying to fit him in as the big hero for phase 3. so Warlock, or Him unhatched, has already had a movie appearance!
  4. ya Shazam #28 is extremely scarce. 1-25 aren't tough to find though. took me about a year and a half to find a Shazam #28 in 9.6+ wow that Shazam 28 is going to skyrocket for sure. beat up copies are hard to find of that one, let alone a decent copy. In 2015/2016 look for Spider-man 194 (despite high census numbers, and lots of hoarded copies) Daredevil 131 (wasn't speculated on like 168) Star Wars 1,42,68,107,81 (especially once 2016 rolls around) Marvel premiere #15, first Iron Fist remains affordable despite hollywood rumors... Also All the bronze DC still has to catch up with Marvel. Books like Batman 227 and 232 have lots of room to grow. DC bronze in general has room for growth. Ms Marvel #1 is also still quite affordable, the whole run is solid really. Bullseye Black Cat. anything Star Wars and boba Fett related, and potentially Ms Marvel. Warner Bros could have Lightning in a bottle with Shazam/Black Adam and Rock... reminds me of when they announced that RDJ would play Iron Man, look for Warner bros attempting to tap into that RDJ/Iron man charm with Rock, because he is a funny guy. my 2 cents
  5. OP, you will have a hard time dealing with a few of the folks on here. ALWAYS pushing some strange mickey mouse agenda.. truly sad.. its totally degenerate how the OP is getting politely flamed.. but anyway, yea Superman cant survive in the 21st century.. been all kinds of studies on it at fancy colleges.. dont rub it in..
  6. all the sweaty bunched up underoos in this thread is gross... sell your disney stock...get over it.. way to obvious...
  7. Saw the NYC red carpet premiere, .. credits roll.. loud appluase that lasted a minute or so.. standing ovation.. Saw a special pre screening tuesday at Loewes in Pittsburgh with comic book shop clerks. a trickle of applause, with a few 'not bad' from the vets going in expecting to hate.. saw it again thursday night down at Loewes with the masses. credits roll. the loudest thundering appluase Ive ever heard for a movie. it brought adult men to tears of joy as they left the theatre with their sleepy eyed children or spouse. Whispers could be heard as the ushers brought in the brooms, and the lights came back on.. "That was cooler than Avengers, Dad!" "I know, son, thats what Ive been trying to say"
  8. strange, I feel BA 12 is the more important book for the very same reasons you cite.. NM 98 is just too easy to find. so many east coasters i know have entire long boxes full of NM 98...
  9. I beg to differ, and think Hellboy is the most successful character to come out in the last 30 years. don't forget TMNT! TMNT Hellboy Harley Quinn Deadpool
  10. Pittsburgh is a zombie mecca. Out at one of Todds (he is a senior overstreet advisor) stores at century 3, they have all the early Walking dead issues collecting dust for about 6 months now in the case. At the mills store they have a bunch of walking dead back issues to on display noone seems to be interested in. (they actually downsized the Walking dead section at Cranberry last year) At the recent Pittsburgh Comic-con usually there are lots of people buying walking dead merchandise but this year was definitely a bust. Zombies are definitely fading a bit but thats the thing. I dont think the book will ever drop below $500, even when the dust settles. But realistically, looking at the census numbers (quite a few 9.8's there) there is no way this book can maintain such a high value.. especially with the sharp decline in zombie popularity this last year... the fact every season but the first is kind of bad isnt doing the book good either. everything boils down to census numbers vs demand. however this book despite the 10,000 print run was still horded and there are hundreds if not, thousands of 9.8's out there. The fact walking dead #1 is selling for the same price or more than a 9.8 bronze key is sort of wonky considering those rare bronze 9.8's have as few 5-25 total in the census.
  11. This is definitely a book worth owning if you like the character. I wouldn't quite compare NM 98 to a super tough 9.8 bronze key.. those tough 9.8 bronze keys are in a different ballpark. took me 3 years to find a Ms Marvel 18 in 9.8!!!!! that was before the hype!!!
  12. nice pic, maccai3! Though it is truly tough to tell, the frame and what we can see of the batmobile almost looks like a cross between the tumbler and Burton's Batmobile... which of course would be perfect! Bosco, of course Justice League will be better or as good as Avengers! I was fortunate to attend NYC DoFP X-men premiere, you guys are going to go nuts and forget Avengers ever happened.. days is the best comic book movie, if not best cinemas movie experience Ive ever had in a theatre. If Days is any indication that studios are stepping it up for comic book movies, Justice League is going to be seriously epic.. Im really looking forward to guardians, Justice League and age of ultron now.. I've been skeptical with all the movie hype but after seeing DoFP, I'm convinced these comic book movies will by and large be considered a huge success! regardless of how many comic book movies are pumped out.. peaceful journeys
  13. Hmmm Magneto and Prof X vs the all new all diff Cockrum/Clairmont Xmen... Not denying what Cockrum/Clairmont did to the X-Men wasn't fantastic, but they don't have the building blocks without Professor X and Magneto. Plus Magneto is one of the best Marvel Villains (I am entirely biased here). I agree. Perhaps if GSX1 introduced Wolverine then it would be bigger than Xmen 1, but it didnt... We really only get Storm, Warpath, Colossus and Nightcrawler. That isn't bigger than jean grey, cyclops, iceman, beast, magneto, angel and professor X. I think your biased because that Kirby fella had something to do w Xmen #1 But.... I still think the power of GSX 1 was the "synergy" of the new Xmen team. This was the rebirth-Boost of Hero genre. I know Star Wars was huge for Marvel, but Conan and Monster mags were not going to keep the lights on beyond the 70s. Im baffled how this could even be an argument... do a little experiment here and simply ask yourself or x-fans the following; would you rather have a sharp looking cgc 6.0-8.0 X-men #1 or a cgc 9.6-9.8 GSX#1..?? Literally every X-fan Ive ever asked immediately says X-men #1.. -nuff said
  14. Todd has about 50 of these in his warehouse in ellwood city (rural north pittsburgh , ony one dollar or fill a long box for $225! the 50 cent sale is a good one too...
  15. I wanted a laugh, so I just looked at the census. Not exactly rare in higher grades. Neither is Hulk #181. What's your point? Wolverine is a slightly more popular character than Iron Fist, but who knows, maybe he will launch into stardom and kids will dress up like him for Halloween next year. All I know right now is that the supply is not meeting the demand and thus the prices are increasing. So is the amount of auction watchers and bid activity. This makes me think there's really demand but why I don't know. I think someone said something about a TV series? Did I read that somewhere or am I making that up? No, I doubt kids will dress up as him for Halloween but I don't think kids are buying these books at $500 a pop for 9.2's And just a side note, I'm not taking offense, just stating my opinion. Sometimes text makes it hard to understand the tone of the conversation. (thumbs u No offense taken (thumbs u . I actually read it as a normal conversation. There is clearly huge demand for the book right now. I think it is the Netflix series for defenders but it is not the real defenders? Right now there are several very common bronze books with skyrocketing market prices, and I think for the vast majority of them the person caught holding the bag is going to be very unhappy. This is a trend for the next year or two as speculators(new buyers in the market this year .... guessing ex card dealers) are buying up a lot of 1st appearances driving up the market due to TV shows. Heck if I had a nice copy it would be up for sale currently. The trick for these buyers is to convince others the books will continue to rise. Id be selling like a fiend right now if I had 9.4 or higher in these books. The true irony of the matter is when the market saturates due the large amount of these books in high grade. They will get stuck holding the bag. Their trick is to buy cheap and flip fast. Some will pull it off easily while others wont. We will only hear about the successes. Well said! I'd also like to point out that I don't think its ex card dealers. Its in fact comic dealers in a large scale and a minority of comic book fans/collectors. collectors/readers such as myself are only driving up some of the initial demand because we know what is good but don't have the time, money, or space to invest nor do we want to.. hording is for the dealers because they know how to operate through the major headaches .. comic book/card dealers are pretty much one in the same Spoilers: as for hot books: Captain America 117 -wow, bought mine for $12 last year a fine! Falcon is also confirmed for Avengers 2. as soon as Taskmaster gets confirmed for Antman expect some jumps on Avengers 196. also Days of Future Past seems to be generating the most fanboy and movie buzz so if its in any way decent like X2, all the bronze X-books will be super hot again! Strange Tales 180- like the previous discussion illustrates! wtf??? crazy...
  16. I agree that FF 65-67 is a great read, and easily Stan Lee at his best, but how you can say Warlock (Him) is not as relavent, important or developed in Thor 165 is baffling. I mean, Him only appears as a cameo in a panel or so in FF67 (still, great book ) In Thor 165, you see his potential power, going toe to toe with Thor, in what is truly a delightful read, where Warlock's powers are explored... which for the late 60's is about as developed and intriguing as a Silver age story gets. Without Thor 165, and the awesome issue that is Thor 166, i seriously doubt Stan Lee would have asked Jim Starlin to revamp the character in '75. Its really Strange Tales 178-181 where Starlin took the character Warlock and defined/buit upon it in ways that were easier to digest than Roy Thomas, who almost killed the character with bad story and mixed fan reaction (iirc) in Marvel Premiere #1. Thomas relied on the messiah trip way too much, and this wasn't where Stan Lee wanted to go with the character. So I argue that Thor 165-166 is actually the most important first and early appearances of Warlock (Him) by far. I honestly think without those, we may have never seen Starlin's realized vision. the works of Fantastic Four 64-68 are truly epic and set up a more consistant and breathable cosmic Marvel universe than the earlier Galactus/Surfer cosmic entry. That body of Work (FF 45,46,48,49,64-68) basically set up the entirety of the marvel cosmic universe as we know it today.,, so im not disregarding it, I just think without Thor 165/166 there would have been no Thomas or Starlin Revamp! As a cosmic character in the Marvel universe, Thor 165/166 does a tremendous job introducing Him and revealing a glimpse into his potential powers. I think I'm with cgc on this one... When i read Fantastic Four 66/67 I'm not reading about Adam Warlock, I'm reading about the beehive or whatever, I'm reading about the Fantastic Four! when I read Thor 165/166 Im getting a complete 'superhero' story, a brief origin recap and great first battle featuring Adam Warlock and Thor! that said I can see how both Fantastic Four 67 and Thor 165 are equally important. One thing is true, Thor 165 has been tough to find in high grade, anything over 8.0 is virtually impossible to find.. where FF 67 is fairly common in high grade even right now,
  17. This. well, I wouldn't call it the best... hehe but it is good! potential marvel spoilers if you havent seen TDW!!!!:: possible various internet rumors that appear to be truthful are: the GotG galaxy movie looks to be Ronan trying to steal the gem from Collector without audience knowing, but Ronan fails then Thanos defeats Collector/GotG final battle. Gotg/Collector will escape barely, collector (he's good guy but slightly shady since he lost his wife and kids) will mention the Enclave and what he procured from them but neither Fantastic four or Enclave is cast. Warlock is not cast either. just easter egg of his birth (but no actor) in the cocoon. The Cocoon will sort of play out as a "Last Hope" for humanity and all sentient beings in the universe. Thor 2 film end credits easter egg: a cocoon like thingie in Collector's room is a dead give away. The camera even focuses on the cocoon for a long while! In the secret -script Ronan is Thanos son, and will be a major baddie turned good guy by the end of Avengers 3. Thanos son, you say? what? well Ronan is Thanos son in Ultimate universe and Marvel Studios is utilizing Ultimate storylines blended with the classic Silver age storylines! hence why you see all the copies of Fantastic four 67 and Thor 165 disappearing under the radar. folks with scripts sworn to secrecy are buying up these books! its not bubble penguins, they havent arrived yet for these books! We are probably going to get an epic cosmic perhaps earthbound battle of Warlock vs Thor on screen because the plot is already writing itself as Whedon envisioned. Warlock kidnaps Sif haha!! Both FF 67 and Thor 165 are equally important but I think whatever CGC says is the first "FULL" appearance will always win long term! those guys seem to know whats up!
  18. wow, prices have gone up on some of these slabbed 9.8's lately. just a year or so ago could have sworn they were selling for $100-$150. X-men 221 New Mutants 87 X-Factor 24 must be the Apocalypse buzz associated with X-Factor 6! Its great to see the 'other' bronze X books start to catch up with GSX1 and X-men 94 such as X-men 101 and X-men 129, both of which are tough as nails to find in 9.8 !
  19. No worries. Now what book you want to boost next? Seriously, I don't think what is said on these boards has an impact whatsoever on the marketplace-at-large. It's a far bigger world out there than you think. agreed! New Mutants 87 and X-Factor 24 appears to be heating up. Disney can't keep rehashing the same 4 silver age A list avengers so I expect X-men Blue Chip characters to carry the weight the next 20 or so years in films. Already my children are sick of seeing Iron Man, Captain America and Thor. much like we were sick of Wolverine in the 80's/90's posted everywhere in shops.
  20. Ah right on, Palamas, I wouldn't fret though! That X-men is a particular book that will always be popular with or without disney. despite that, all silver age keys are particularly hot, and have been so last 5-10 years, some would argue they've been hot the last 30 years. But not to derail the thread, the sky is the potential with BB#28! lack of first appearances/origins hurt BB#28 but I don't think it will matter in the long run. As long as the slab says "1st appearance of" people will treat the book like a first appearance!
  21. Reddwarf, I think you make valid points, most of us probably don't want to believe them though! BaB #28 book is moving up for sure! All Silver Age keys in mid/high grade are super hot. X-men #1 9.2 cgc just sold for $50,000. $15,000 more than guide! $20,000 more than a few 9.2's that sold just a few years ago. And X-men aren't even that hot right now... Days of Future Past is only just starting to generate excitement. The lack of Silver age keys in fine+ condition is leading to some pretty insane sales. you cant go wrong with BB#28 despite its shortcomings!
  22. Here are some Spawn Modern issues heating up and driving demand of low print spawn up: low print spawn: 77- Cog origin story 95-100 - Death of Angela and Malebolgia 117,118 -Anniversary issue. Redeemer 142,143 - devil to pay story 150,151 - Beginning of the End story very low print spawn: 174-175 - Gunslinger Spawn 178 - Vampire Story 184,185 - Death of Al Simmons Endgame story begins 185-196 - Endgame Story/new Spawn and of course variants and sketch covers of the above seem to be holding value well. For those of you who grew up reading the first few spawn issues and enjoyed it, I highly suggest 95-100!
  23. I think we will have a good idea of the potential of overlooked copper/moderns once we see more numbers of slabbed books like Batman adventures #12! seems like every day I'm noticing more Batman Adventures adventures 9.6's and 9.8's appear on the census. I imagine we'll see a steady rise in numbers next few years because there are likely several hundred 9.8's (especially considering pressing) of BA#12 floating around out there. Then on one side of the spectrum we have books like X-men 282 and ASM 361 which are enduring the test of time, print run in the millions and boarded/bagged since they were printed. Time will tell but I like Web of Spiderman 118/119 -the parker clone thing seems to work in the books (see Venom, Carnage, and Scarlet Spider) low print spawn books (issues 120ish and up, especially 170's-190's) Perez Teen titans first appearance stuff is undervalued as well. DC comics 26, Teen Titans 44, teen titans #2 etc... its a proven formula that works for cartoons and I totally see the younger generations collecting this stuff years from now with more disposable income. I also think all the low print run Valiant books (early Rai and Harbinger) are vastly under valued.. these print runs were under 10,000 (for harbinger 1-5,and rai 2-4 if I remember correctly) . And quite honestly these copper gems changed collecting in ways similar to ASM #300 in their time. They are also proving timeless! Early Gaiman material has potential but everyone horded early vertigo by the truckload back when so its easy to find, however there are gems like sandman #8.. my 2 cents.. Edit; the reason Web of Spiderman 118/119 should be considered right now is due to upcoming Scarlet Spider #25 and the hugely successful Superior Spiderman. Marvel is basically combining Venom and Scarlet Spider into 1 Superior Scarlet Venom style book, thus it is rumored and likely Kaine (aka Scarlet Spider) is about to become Venom, too, given the solicitation previews we've been getting Superior Scarlet Venom will likely be a huge success story for marvel.
