  1. I love this - wanted to do the same thing, but tracking down all of the covers themselves is still something I have to do (I always end up only thinking of it with too little time before the con). Maybe I'll do some searching through the off-season and prep for next year.
  2. That looks great, especially for a rush job. I see zip ties and shelves, what did you use for the upright supports? I'm thinking of setting up at a future show, and trying to figure out an easy cost effective way to setup a rack.
  3. I'm doing some work on the disaster that's supposed to be my comic room this weekend, so while I was taking things apart and had the pile of boxes moved enough that I could actually see my statue display I thought I'd take a pic. This shelf isn't going back in the space, so this is a bit of a before (although I'd pulled out a few statues from the pile of dust before I thought to take the pics. Hopefully soon I'll be showing off the newly designed room.
  4. That is awesome, I've been hoping to find one of the original Star Wars books that feature Boba on the cover signed by Jeremy but no luck running across an SS one so far, after seeing this I think I'm open to more modern alternatives as well.
  5. Turner is definitely on the list of SS that I'd like to acquire, but ideally I'm looking for Witchblade 1, or at least some Witchblade book, and as someone mentioned those are hard to come by.
  6. Couple of small pickups this week, my first slabbed GI Joe books. Was planning to start with the first series, but the price was too good to pass up, and I think the black cover will be a great book for turning into SS in the future.
  7. A couple of new SS pickups as I start to get into the insane collecting that is SS, these are only my 4th and 5th books, and I have Doug getting me my first direct item at Dragon Con (everything to date is off EvilBay). My first celeb auto, I was always a big Stargate fan, I expect to find myself gradually working on the rest of the key stars on similar books. Couldn't pass this up for the price of his auto at a con. Then a book that really appealed to my various collecting drivers. I'm a big Avengers fan, also an Alpha Flight fan, and in my other collecting pursuits I specifically focus on Team Canada related sports cards. So when I get an exclusive con variant picturing Alpha Flight on an Avengers book, with maple leafs everywhere, I just have to buy it.
  8. Well, this is actually the last couple of weeks as I took a vacation, but regardless my second posting to this thread, as I'm new to the site and just back to collecting (and desperately trying to control my impulse purchases, because everything just looks cool). So with that said, the goods: FIrst up, one of the must haves for a collector who considers Deadpool one of his favourite 3 characters: Then there's a must have book for an Alpha Flight fan (and coincidentally an X-Men fan) A throw in with the X-Men Then there's some toys from SDCC (I mainly collect Deadpool, Fett, and Hawkeye) And finally, there's nothing like visiting a comic shop while on vacation, hit a flea market too, but no luck there. The comic shop had a lot of low grade raw x-men, but nothing that attracted me, but I've always liked the cover to DD181, and with the hype I couldn't pass on the Racoon. I also picked up a couple of SS books, but I'll post those in that thread, I've taken up enough of your space.
  9. I second that, I loved your room the first time you showed it and love it even more now. This is without a doubt my favourite thread to check out every time I log in - and as soon as I turn my comic room from it's current (room to dump in), into an area I can take pictures of I will. I already have a number of shelves and things up, you just can't see them currently
  10. Love that Hawkeye - colors look spectacular, great job!
  11. Love that Perez in red, forgot to mention that as one of the other key items on my SS list - I got my original copy autographed at the Ottawa show, but would like a nice slabbed one to go with it.
  12. Thanks, next up on the wantlist are J Scott Campbell signed Gen13 #1 and Danger Girl #1 (annoyed that this seller had the Danger Girl and I forgot to bid). I'm also looking to get a Michael Turner SS that will be a little more difficult, and Tony Daniel SS on The Tenth, Brett Booth on Backlash - both of those I'll need to get done myself though - not overly popular items!
  13. Happy with Jim Lee on one of my favorite series as the first CGC SS in my collection And then following it up with a favorite writer in Brian Michael Bendis All acquired off E-Bay, I'll have to add in some of my in person convention autos that aren't graded sometime.
  14. Well these are my first new pickups to arrive since joining the board, so thought I'd join in on this thread. In the past I was primarily a new comic buyer just filling the odd holes in my runs, but I got into sketches and autos at my first show just before joining the boards. Then after joining as I set out to figure out what my focus was going to be it turned out to be very unfocused Anyway, one of the things I wanted to get were some CGC SS of some of my favorite creators on key books. That means different things to different people of course. For me that means Jim Lee on original Wildstorm books as I was a huge Wildstorm junkie. Then my other focus is to go back and get a full run of my first super-hero book Avengers (which will take a long time, but I'm starting), so picked up an earlier item and also picked up one SS of Brian Michael Bendis. All came from the same seller on E-bay so it was certainly a factor in enticing a few extra purchases. Sorry for the photos, my scanner's too small for slabs, so I guess I need another one of those too. Lots more incoming as I went a little crazy to start on here - learning self control will be a challenge!
  15. Love the setup, and especially the Steranko wall, but I'm really curious how you got the cards framed up like this - I've seen the comic frames before but not something that so cleanly displays a card set.
  16. Love that Hawkeye - I want to see that with some color!
  17. I think I have to start off my comment with a pure WOW!! Great to see all of the GI Joe collectors here, I just got back into comics after a couple of years hiatus, went to a local show and the bug was back. I've spent the last couple of months opening up old boxes of comics and toys, inventorying things and deciding where I'm going to focus. Without a doubt GI Joe will be one of those things and it looks like I'll be in good company here! Joe was the first comic I ever collected, and while it's nothing compared to the Registry sets here, I did just complete my full run of ARAH at that recent show with the vast majority of those being my original collection - so while the conditions are weak it'll always mean more that way. That said I do think I'll be taking a stab at picking up some CGC versions and even SS versions of some of the key issues as I save up. I also found a few boxes of the vehicles and figures that never found there way into garage sales, most of those I'll move eventually and focus on the comics, but at the moment I'm intending to keep my favorite characters and try to chase down carded versions at some point. My favorites are Beachhead and Firefly, but I'll also likely keep other close seconds of Shockwave, Hit & Run, Lowlight, Tunnel Rat and the Alley Vipers. We'll see how that goes. That's all for now, just wanted to announce my presence before switching back to part time lurker. I'll definitely be back to post in this thread as I make acquisitions.
  18. Still have the original in a box with a number of other Joe things, sold off most at a garage sale, and my stuff although played with was looked after and would be well valued currently. That said I kept this, and a couple of other vehicles that were by far my favorites. No Joe battle happened without troop deployment on a Tomahawk!
