Found 1 copy of Adam Legends of the Blue Marvel #1 and two copies of #5. Haven't seen them in a back issue bin in a long time. Got them for $1 each

I ordered quite a few then they cancelled my order thru DCBS so I didn't re-order. Same here! Didn't this book just get offered on the last order form at DCBS? How did it already release? It dropped in stores like 2 weeks back. Another awesome shark book is White. That was a great read and I do not see it anywhere.

Agreed. I find a lot of the hot books in back issue bins for cover or less, some times multiple copies. It is little risk for me to flip stuff that others are willing to pay more for. I do not hold on to stuff very long and do not worry if I am "leaving money on the table" if I sell and it goes up. A profit is a profit.

It's tough to say, and I appreciate you pushing me to be precise, its a good discussion. Dynamic Forces is a good older example that has been hotly debated over the years. I think we can agree the "legit" list must include anything distributed by Diamond. Con exclusives vs Retailer exclusives is a really good question that I dont think can have a hard and fast answer, and will always involve some element of personal opinion. I think anything made a by a retailer or group of retailers is its own category, I refer to as "store variants", and lack legitmacy. Many con exclusives are produced in the same manner with the same mechanisms via the publisher. From a literalism stand point, they are as J says the same. If it's the LONE variant for the book in question, or the convention is a very big and famous one, those factors tend to put it, in my mind, in a category above the retailer "store" books. But, it definitely isnt the same as straight from the publisher variants. The variants like that Vancouver Fan Expo book are clearly somewhere in between the two (below a big con or solo variant, above some no name store variant). As a rule of thumb I have always broken the argument down as such: 1. If it is a ratio cover, an alternative cover (B Cover), or otherwise distributed to stores on certain criteria (order 110% of X book to qualify for this cover) than it is a variant 2. If it is not available to all stores that qualify (by ordering, ratio, percentage of order, et al.), not shipped out by Diamond, and exclusive to just a shop or con and has a shop or cons logo or name, then it is an Exclusive. I think there is a blurring in the term variant that has gone on to include everything that is not a cover A. Just my opinion. I still buy covers that I like, and don't care if it is an exclusive or variant if the art or artist is something i am interested in.

Joe's Schmoe's super-fantastic ultra-rare virgin-led-foil variant, only 50 copies printed, is still just Joe Schmoe's variant. Big Con variants that the publishers themselves produce, and dont have 16 cover versions, are far more legitimate. It's not that complicated a concept. If you made the variant it's worthless, if Marvel made it, its worth something. But still, the convention organizers are the ones who commission the variants from the publisher (regardless of the name or size of the convention ) in the identical fashion that retailers do, often in similar quantities and using re-purposed art or alternate versions of the same art as well. So really it is a distinction without a difference. Unless I'm missing something..... -J. If you're talking Big 2, they are typically commissioned and / or approved by the big cheese. If you're talking a Myrat Michaels Dead Pooh, then yes. That's a "home brew". I'm just trying to figure out if CBT is essentially saying that , if it didn't appear on a Diamond retailer order sheet, it's not a "real variant". Not saying that is an entirely invalid opinion , I know a lot of guys who feel that way. If that is what he's saying though , then con exclusives are out, retailer exclusives are out. What about RRP books though ? I guess since those are technically also distributed by Diamond via the publishers directly (and not commissioned by some outside shop, convention or other agency) as a "thanks for coming" surprise freebie, those would still count. At one point, ComicXposure had variants listed in the Diamond Catalog and distributed through Diamond, (do not remember which book though) So, since it did go through Diamond, and is was distributed by Diamond, but was also a store variant, would this count as a real variant or not? Also, what about the PX (Preview Exclusive variants) do they count as real variants or not? Just curious?

West World was a home run last night. The Tara episode of The Walking Dead Last night was barely an at bat. The new town could have been introduced in about 5 minutes instead of wasting a whole episode.

One thing to remember about newsstand copies, the unsold copies often had the front cover ripped off and sent back. My mom owned a store when I was a kid that had comics in them. After the covers were returned she would bring me home copies that had the covers ripped off as it was cheaper to send them back that way than the whole book.

I suspect those are pretty tough to find, but... that price is crazy. They definitely are tough to find. Even the newest #1 is seeing some decent sales again after going cold for a bit. U need to pick some up for your Cons they will be easy sales. I do not need to pick up any more, I just need to figure out which book I stashed the regular #1s and Phantom #1s in. I actually cleaned out the two LCSs that had them when they came out and I could flip the book for a quick double on eBay. "Zombie" "Tramp" was kind of a no-brainer from the get-go . . . what's not to like??? As FBS said, the only trouble was finding them. I have been picking up copies of the first series, as well as the Action Labs Mini and ongoing series. These are easy flips without a doubt. A long the same lines, early Cavewoman and Tarot Witch of the Black Rose are usually quick flips when I can find them. The books are usually looked at as "perv books" at most of my local shops, but they sell really well and I will take an easy flip on a "perv book" any day. I picked up 1-3 of the original series off the wall at a shop and the owner said he never thought he would "get rid of those books" I told him I would happily have taken more if he had them and after the transaction was complete told him what they went for.

Its the "only copy on eBay syndrome" no copies have moved at that price. People can ask crazy numbers and never receive them. There seems to be a couple of copycats since the first crazy priced one went up. I just turned it down for $20 bucks. I didn't think it was a good cover. I do like the regular cover better as well

It is funny because the publisher of Image went on a rant at ComicsPRO saying how they were doing away with ratio variants because it is bad for business and bad for shops because they had to order a ton of books that would just sit in the back issue bins. This may sound horrible, and it probably is, but I really think this proves the point that Aspen comics is not worried about Turner's legacy and more worried about a cash grab. At this point I am not surprised if they get somebody to sign Michael Turner's name and claim it as an autographed copy

I don't think we are really saying the B&N is the play here. Sure it is rare in comparison to the regular #51 but in most cases something is always the most in demand so the discussion is more weighted to the Direct Sales errors . Anyhoo, Superman Lois and Clark 1 or 8 or ? I don't think we are really saying the B&N is the play here So... You are at a B&N There are ten NM copies of JLA #51 error on the rack. You pass?!? It doesn't have to be Walking Dead #1 to be a solid play. I personally like twenty dollar bills. Many Barnes and Noble stores have not received these and from what I am being told 3-5 copies per store is more accurate for the stores that have. I went to one this evening that had six copies. Five of them were very nice with one copy that was flipped through and clearly read at the shelf.

Question about the Showcase 96 #3. I looked at one of the copies I grabbed the other day. On the side of the pages it says Showcase 95. On the Showcase book the indicta reads Showcase 96 but on the side of each page it is printed Showcase 95. Was that normal? Just a printing error?

I found a couple in a bin the other day.

I read it and Superman 1 and Batman 1 as well yesterday. Titans follows the standard "Heroes meet for the first time, fight, realize they are all heroes, best buds at the end" formula. Superman was fairly boring minus the Superboy using his powers poorly part. Batman rides an airplane with a Batrope and two stick on portable jet engines. It was kind of hokey.

Seems like a lot of places are trying this now. One of the dollar stores has two packs as well. All the ones at Ollie's I have seen have been junk, like bad junk.
