I feel that for a $14,000 book the seller should have provided a pic of the back. Otherwise, this provides sellers an unfair opportunity to hide the condition of the back cover. To each their own but for $14,000 sellers should provide a pic of the front and back. Cheers!
It’s more than fair to want to see the back cover before making an unequivocal commitment to purchase, especially of a book that size; however, while you’re waiting for it, if someone wants the book to the extent that they will unequivocally purchase without seeing the back cover (and do), it just means you weren’t able to buy the book.

“I want it, but would like ‘INSERT WANT’ first” is the definition of a condition, in my opinion...
The other was an unequivocal, “I’ll take it!”

I always thought 'take pending scan' gives the taker a short-term option, and that's how I would treat if I was selling. I know this item isn't a case of that e.g., but it's more common here.
I don't see it as strings, like a counter offer or "buy if you do this...". I see it as I want it, but would like to see the back first, in which case I'd like chance to back out if something unexpected shows itself there.
“I want it, but would like ‘INSERT WANT’ first” is the definition of a condition, in my opinion...

Agree, messaging was futile in this case. Clear cut take
One was a conditional offer, the other was an “I’ll take it!” You don’t have to use the emoji.

Hello All,
As I’m sure many of you have seen, there is an EBay listing for GG1 & 2, which has been on listed for several years now.
Does anyone know the seller (and can speak to reputation) or have any insight as to the authenticity? Here is a link to the listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/311802847922 .
On a side note, if anyone has a graded set for sale, I would also be interested.
Appreciate any trusted insights people may provide. Thank you!

Do you have a picture of the back?

I was so confused for a minute.

Great person to deal with... Thank you for the great transaction!

Not many out there, so prices are fairly scattershot. But I had no idea the prices paid the past couple years on the 1981 Love and Rockets #1 (B&W self-published). There's currently a 9.8 copy in the Heritage Auction. Looks like it may come in below that $2k price paid for a 9.6 in 2013. Anyway, just thought I'd mention this book as I just happened to look it up due to that auction.
Any book that's hand stapled and gets picked-up for a higher print run is a good bet in my book.

Don't rip your comics or mommy will kill ya
Especially don't let your mother-in-law rip a cover of Action Comics #1 should you be so lucky to find a copy which was used as insulation in the wall of a house you're refurbishing, after finding yourself in a disbelief-driven tug-of-war with the found treasure. And, don't play tug-of-war with the comics, in general, a bad idea!

purchase books unslabbed from reputable dealers as the prices are usually much more "beginner friendly". Purchase Overstreet Guide to Grading. Purchase supplies from either Bill Cole or E Gerber. Read up on how to store your comics. Don't buy stuff you know nothing about. If something seems to good to be true, it usually is. Check for Marvel Value stamps on issues that contain them (Hulk 181).

Overstreet Guide to Grading is undoubtedly the single most important book I bought as a (beginning/&) collector... Amazing resource to truly understand grading, re. which 90% of people don't have a clue and, so, resort to a guess on grade from how pretty they think it looks and counting color breaks on the spine.
Also, find the fun.
