I have a quick but fun observation from #143 and #144. Having fallen out of the conversation on the boards I can't say for certain this wasn't already brought up. I assume it has, but I didn't see it from my review of the last few pages of posts.
The last page of #143 and the first page of #144 connect to be a double page splash. Maybe obvious to most, but I didn't catch it initially. Hope this entertains someone out there.
Edit for message board etiquette: sorry if already mentioned!

TBP, it released at 12:30 am EST for me.

Wow. I have to hand it to Kirkman, 132 was awesome.
A quick read, but damn am I happy the direction the story is going in. Ironic that the title of the issue is "Happiness".
But seriously, I have a feeling we're going in a dark direction - one that the story needs and hasn't really dived into yet.
I agree. And I like how in the letter hacks Kirkman mentions that...
He would never have thought that talking zombies would be a good idea for the book.
Which makes me feel silly for even considering that it was a possibility a few issues ago. Also:
The new group is definitely interesting so far. I wonder why they are going around randomly hunting living people.
So since 132 came out a week early does that mean 133 will be coming a week early as well? Fingers crossed.
-
Ah I didn't notice the animation on the cover when I first checked out the preview...that's cool.
-
Am I alone in thinking that #132 was coming out next week? The image site and google play show it as coming out tomorrow, 10/1 (though for some reason google play has it priced at $9.99).
The google play listing also has a short synopsis I hadn't seen before. Hiding it in spoilers but it's not really of any substance/surprise.
Magna and her party surprise Andrea. As the sun sets over Hilltop, a new threat emerges.
-
That listing is unbelievable.
-
FYI to anyone interested in the latest series of comic action figures (namely Rick, Andrea, and Dwight), they are now available on amazon for about $14 each with free shipping assuming you are a prime member. Quite a bit less than the premium I paid to get them a week or two early (sigh).

I was giving some thought to the various plot points/story threads that have been created over the past few issues and not yet resolved. I am enjoying the change of pace from the recurring "how will [Rick/Negan] get out of this bind next issue" plot that we were given through most of All Out War. Not that all of the points listed below are incredibly interesting, but I think it's great having so many questions that I care about finding the answers to again.
Edit: I'm putting the list in spoiler tags for anyone who isn't caught up.
Characters:
Magna & her group - what is their "real" backstory? - #127
- Lived in a nursing home - #128
- Spent 7 months on the road before finding Rick's group - #128
- She said they "encountered no other people" during the 7 months (unlikely) - #128
- She said she she's seen torture and knows what it does to people (inconsistent with above points) - #130
Negan - will he escape/be released? - #127
Michonne - what's her update? - N/A
Ezekiel - what's his update? - N/A
Dwight - what's his update? - N/A
Jesus - relationship status? - N/A
Lucille - still with Dwight? - N/A
Rosita
- What does she need to tell Eugene? - #127
- Significance of the "out late tonight, don't wait up" note to Eugene. - #128
Carl
- what's in the note he was handed before leaving Alexandria? - #129
- will he be the apprentice (next cover implies yes)? - #130
Ken - left behind to die?
Locations:
We haven't seen the Kingdom or the Saviors place yet (the factory?)
Other points:
The upcoming festival - something is bound to happen here - #127
Talking walkers? A new faction hiding within the herds somehow? - #130
Will the gigantic herds be an issue? (uh, yes) - #127
What have I missed? Was there anything pre-#127 that was left unresolved?
-
-
I'd say common look...but I can't wait to find out either way!
I thought those two riders were Ken and Marco until this latest issue. It still may be, but now I'm thinking not. Though One of the riders does appear to be injured.
-
Almost forgot, Bernie's back baby!
Haha I love it. Glad he gets a few more minutes in the Sun.
My take on the Talking Zombie thing. I think it was some people who were in the zombie horde covered in zombie muck like rick did before as a way to disguise.. they never saw them, only heard the talking.I think you're right. Regardless, this is an interesting development made even moreso by the cover/teaser for #134. Unless it's talking walkers, in that case in not interested . I'll leave it up to RK to convince me.
-
The cover and tag line for #134 are interesting. I'm on my phone so linking is difficult, but they are up on the walking dead website.
"From whispers to screams."
-
Good observation Carl, I hadn't thought of that. Now I'm thinking there's a slight chance we have talking walkers again.
-
Cool page Carl. Are you going to call that a "zombie" page? looks like you've got a herd from the shins down in the bottom panel.
-
Agreed on all fronts retro. Though at least we don't have to repeat the 5 week wait for 130.
-
And the art is up on splash for those who might be interested
Giant panels for inks on this page;
Agreed, I was giving that one some thought. Would be nice to display. I'll be holding out though, nothing from this issue is jumping out to me other than the page with the herd marching by.
-
And the art is up on splash for those who might be interested
-
I think you're right. And I think I jumped to conclusions because I was likewise dehydrated and exhausted when I read it last night (though I wouldn't go so far as to say I was delirious).
-
I don't know about the rest of you guys but I Believe In Harvey Dent.
-
In reading the issue I did have in the back of my mind a comment that the official walking dead Facebook account had said Monday night:
Taking the "everything we've known may change" teaser this issue further, they said that everything may change specifically about walkers.
Though now I'm realizing that I shouldn't put any more credability into those teasers than any other teasers they put out. Is #131 here yet? Hah.
-
Thanks Rip! Much appreciated.
-
Were you guys also missing page 3 from the Google Play download?
No page 3 for me either. I have downloaded it on two devices and both just show a white page for #3. I expect it will come up fine if I load it on the computer (thanks Rip) but that will have to wait until tomorrow.
-
Uh, so any thoughts on the latest issue?
I can't say I'm happy with the latest development, if it is indeed true. I'm hoping there were somehow people hidden within the herd (camouflaged in guts?) that they heard. It's a stretch, I know, but having the walkers talking...and not just talking but carrying on purposeful conversations, is a bit hard to swallow at this point.
It did remind me of the book The Girl With All The Gifts which I read recently though. Not to spoil that book, but I would recommend it if you are into WD.
-
Just one more week!
I'm curious to see what Ken and Marco's (mis)adventures are leading up to. Also wondering what he "hears" though I'm imagining it's just a big herd that they are building up behind them.

Yikes. It says something when an issue like this is met with a fizzle.
And after reading it, yes I am curious what’s to come (that’s a win!), but wow - such disappointment, not from what occurred but from how the issue was written and the character moments.
Eye opening really.
