Um yeah, it is absolutely more significant.  Just like 1st jsa is more significant than x23.

I agree that JSA is more significant than X-23 which is why I updated the spot on the original list. I haven't deleted the 1st entries only because I would like to see the progress of the list.

  2. Updated to reflect the great suggestions (another blatant miss on my part: Superman's Girlfriend #70)

    Looking of 5 more initial numbers 72, 74, 82, 88 and 91.

Also looking for additional input for other numbers which could have other significant factors (like 13, is Groot really the most significant #13?)

  3. There have been some great suggestions and very blatant overlooks on my part (Wiz 2 and FF 51)

There are some debatable inclusions but have edited the original post to include most of the suggestions.

I love GA issues and understand their historical significance, but may not be as well versed as some members of the boards.

I also feel that there are other great reasons for inclusion besides 1st appearances (story, creators, covers) which is why I feel 36 should be ASM V2. and why I added Tec 31 (cover)

If we can fill the entire list maybe I will engage a poll for issues which could be debatable (looking at you 55 (Thanos, Dr Fate))

I think your best bet would be to go to a company like Splash Page comic art and simply send an email to Mark Hay telling him of your specific need. Don’t be surprised if he asks whether the artist makes any difference or not. That was my curiosity about what you are doing.

I have been looking for a matching set just to have a matched set. I missed an opportunity to pickup a Black Manta matched set a year or two ago. The page composition and price have more weight than the artist at this time. I would like to have an example of each type of OA within my collection which is why I am vetting opinions on the different types of OA so I can add these types to my portfolio. I will continue to search the major dealers, and CAF. I did see a set at FanExpo Dallas by Brent Peeples that renewed interest in finding a set.

    Thanks for the info.

  5. While I am not new to OA collecting I do have a couple questions.

I am currently looking for a matching pencil only and separate inked page, what's the best way to locate these type of pages? ebay is sparce and most of the OA sites don't list them together.

What are the different types of pages? I have a panel page, half splash, full splash, title page, an end page, double page spread,  double page splash, cover page, unpublished page and a preliminary sketch page. What am I missing?

I would also like to get a color guide and matching OA page, where would be a good place to get these together?

  6. 10 days out, anybody heard of convention exclusives to be offered (outside of the VIP and Ultimate fan packages)?

I plan to meet a few comic creators for convention sketches (Jae Lee, Jimenez, Erwin) and some autographs (ASM 700, Tec 1000 Artgrem vintage), pull a couple small keys, fill in some back issues, get a t-shirt, peruse the artist alley for something unique for my home office and maybe catch a panel or 2.

    What are your plans?

Awesome to see another Valiant collector. I’m pretty close to completing my collection of 90s of Valiant titles. I think you are on to something pretty exceptional with the drawers for the book case. Is really like to see more of them. Maybe you could take some pictures while you are building the next ones and make a little tutorial. I think a lot of people would find it very useful.

    Thanks for the kind words

I do plan on taking pictures of the next drawer to share this info to include measurement and hardware, here and on the facebook woodworkers group.

I love my Valiant comics, I have everything Pre-Unity and Unity (including the variants and mail-in) and more than a few post Unity. I am working on my VVSS and some other variants.

Also, I don't know how much this matters to you, but you may want to consider some other things, like wrap (is the cover centered nicely on one vs the other?) and page quality (are both White pages, or is one an OW/W or worse?).

Both look great in the slab. Both have white pages. While I don't think either will go down, do you think 1 will go up more than the other in 6 months ans end up costing ,e more I  The long run.

  9. I have a opportunity to purchase one of the 2 graded comics below. Both at about $225. Both have been on my want list for several years. My question is which is a better buy now vs buying the other in 6 months? Is .2 grade difference make one a better option?

Both were graded in Oct of '22. One seems to be trending up, the other down.

Thanks in advance for your information

Teen Titans #2 graded 9.4 (direct edition)

Thor #337 graded 9.6 (newsstand barcode)

  10. I like to post all of my art on CAF, but I have a relative small collection which includes published pages and convention sketches. I have recieved both positive comments and low ball offers. But I like that while my art is not for sale it is available to both see and know that it is out there.

I wish the site was better able to search descriptions and what is and isn't for sale, and be able to search for published pieces or convention sketches
