  1. My most recent purchase: I'm super excited to crack it out of its case and read it this week!
  2. Does this book count as "Pre-Hero" Marvel? I've always wondered because some people consider Dr Droom to be a "hero."
  3. Exhibit A to the notion "buy the book, not the grade." Bravo. Thank you! I always try to find the books with the prettiest covers. (thumbs u
  4. I just purchased this bad boy a couple of weeks ago:

  6. Really nice man! and if I'm not wrong.. that is now the highest graded sig series copy. There is a 3.5 double sig copy being looped on the bay at the moment. You are correct and hopefully it stays that way
  7. Hmmm Magneto and Prof X vs the all new all diff Cockrum/Clairmont Xmen... Not denying what Cockrum/Clairmont did to the X-Men wasn't fantastic, but they don't have the building blocks without Professor X and Magneto. Plus Magneto is one of the best Marvel Villains (I am entirely biased here). I agree. Perhaps if GSX1 introduced Wolverine then it would be bigger than Xmen 1, but it didnt... We really only get Storm, Warpath, Colossus and Nightcrawler. That isn't bigger than jean grey, cyclops, iceman, beast, magneto, angel and professor X. I think your biased because that Kirby fella had something to do w Xmen #1 But.... I still think the power of GSX 1 was the "synergy" of the new Xmen team. This was the rebirth-Boost of Hero genre. I know Star Wars was huge for Marvel, but Conan and Monster mags were not going to keep the lights on beyond the 70s. Not at all. Kirby was the man, but I appreciate the "new" guys too. I just think the breadth of characters introduced in X1 is bigger and better than those introduced in GSX1. I agree the xmen didn't gain wide acclaim until GS1 but that doesn't change the significance of the two issues. ^Agrees X1 > GSX1 --------------------------------------------------- Magneto, Professor X, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast & Angel > Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus & Thunderbird
  8. Haha, nope. According to his origin story, the Rawhide Kid was trained at a young age to shoot and through rigorous practice, he became the world's most accurate shot with a gun. A skill that comes in handy when you're always aiming to shoot away your opponent's gun.
  9. Thanks guys! I feel fortunate to own this copy. RK17 is a difficult book to find.
  10. I just got this back from CGC today! When I submitted the book, I asked CGC if they could include credits to Stan Lee & Ayers (because every CGC copy I had previously seen only mentioned Jack Kirby) and was pleased to see that they are now included in the CGC notes
  11. I have always considered 14 books to be the Heart of the Marvel Universe, and these are almost they. I include TTA 27 OR 35, but not both, and I replace FF 5 with FF 4. Those 14 give you the key books that feature everyone who had their own successful series during the prime years of the Marvel Age. Villains are great, but I think the MU would be much the same if you removed any of them. Even Doom. If I were to include a 15th book, based solely on "importance/impact"; then I'd be tempted to add Rawhide Kid #17. The Marvel Age was a product of the magical collaboration of Jack Kirby and Stan Lee, and RHK 17 was the first time the two worked together on a continuing hero series. Much of the House of Ideas' foundation was laid in those comics. Very well said! I was considering putting FF4 in my top 15 instead of TTA35, but I don't think the general public knows who Subby is. I wouldn't be surprised if FF4 blew up in importance if Fox announced a movie about the character...
  12. Personally, I think there are 15 Marvel books worth mentioning as 'top tier' SA keys: 1.) Amazing Fantasy 15 2.) Fantastic Four 1 3.) Incredible Hulk 1 4.) Tales of Suspense 39 5.) X-Men 1 6.) Journey into Mystery 83 7.) Fantastic Four 5 8.) Tales to Astonish 27 9.) Avengers 1 10.) Avengers 4 ---------------------------------------- 11.) Strange Tales 110 12.) Daredevil 1 13.) Sgt. Fury 1 14.) Amazing Spiderman 1 15.) Tales to Astonish 35
  13. Thanks Harvey. Been admiring your amazing contributions to the Boards from afar. Nice work whipping these threads into shape! Can we "pin" Harvey's club threads or organize them into a sub-section of the SA thread? It would be a shame for all of his hard work to eventually fade below newer threads.
  14. Nice run! Are you stopping at 15 or do you plan on going higher?
