  1. Tough call.  Many people have been preaching the slow down of IH 181 for years, but the facts are that it just hasn't slowed in popularity & growth...really ever.  Until that actually happens, I'm on the side of continued growth for IH 181.  GL and other DC characters certainly have room to grow given the scarcity of books and lack of any decent big screen movies to get the new generation excited.  Out of the DC universe I see GL & Flash as the untapped resources.  It's hard to say if it will happen or not, though.  If this is a pure $$ move, I'd get the nicest 181 you can get.

mine are raw, and have been in the box a looooong time.  i haven't really tried to upgrade post-ditko books, but maybe i oughta change that over to top-50.

Beautiful raw books.  #40 was the first ASM that really caught my eye.  Just a great cover.  I'd extend the run out to 52.  I love that 3-part Kingpin story (50-52).  Not many of the books from 53-118 do much at all for me.  A few sprinkled in, but I decided against doing a run past 52.

  3. I always get nervous with raw books, especially of that kind of value.  IF there is no restoration and it could hopefully pull a 1.5 or better, I'd do the trade.  You could possibly sell the AF15 and then upgrade to a Hulk 181 9.6 if you prefer to have the Hulk over the AF.  It also depends how attached you are to your particular copy of Hulk 181.  While they are common, it's not always easy to find one with very nice centering.

I totally agree about the coolness factor. And yes, its not a first appearance, but it is the very first issue of the most amazing (pun intended) series ever and just the second appearance of Spidey. And yes, they do look awesome as a pair! :luhv:

I love seeing these books together!  What a pair :cloud9:

So I finally got a working 7400c again for $75 on eBay.

If anyone wants to see a difference between CIS and CCD scanners...

CCD HP 7400c (I still need to clean the glass...) - 1.9 MB

Yep, I made the same mistake when buying a new Epson printer/scanner.  Guess I have to keep my old HP ScanJet on standby

  6. Beautiful sets guys!  This was the first "set" that I had my sights set on when I got back into collecting a few years back.  #1 - it's the Hulk who I grew up loving (even though I'm an ASM guy first) and #2 - being only 6 issues it's something I felt I could accomplish.

BTW, has anyone noticed the new slabs are more difficult to scan?  Or is it just me?  My Hulk 1 just wouldn't scan very well (or #3).  Probably not the right place to ask, but thought I'd check.

    My set:
