No reason to take a film risk on a (sorry) niche character that can't even sustain her own comic book.

Out of all the "replacement" characters (or as Marvel is trying to convince us, "legacy" characters), she's the only one whose book is really holding its own & not basically propped up by corporate mandate & the Marvel diversity police. And it's one of the VERY few that's accepted by new and old readers alike.

Time will tell, I wouldn't be upset to be wrong. I'd be very surprised though - people can say what they like about the character and her uniqueness, but she's literally a clone of Wolverine. Literally.

In power set & whatnot? Of course. In personality? Not at all, IMO. Yes, there's some little homages to old-school Logan (his proclivity for having teenager girl sidekicks or the risk of berserker rage), but her overall personality is vastly different IMO.

I know that particular challenge! I'm about 50 short of my 1-544 (including price variants, variants and reprints) goal now but 1 & 4 are the 2 big books left on my list.

    Best of luck, good sir!

    What's next for you after?

You mean after I finish my Uncanny run? Hmmm... Damn good question. I'm probably back to finishing my modern runs. I'm almost done with X-Men (Vol 1-3), X-Factor (Vol 1-2), X-Force (Vol 1-3), New Mutants (Vol 1-3) and Generation X. And by that, I mean every issue, every variant, every reprint, every price variant (except pence or newsstand)

But in silver age? Probably upgrading some of my UXM run or going after big keys or maybe taking a crack at an ASM Vol 1 run (already done with Vol 2-4). I haven't really given it much thought. Though the "go after big keys exclusively" idea seems fun. Just don't know if I can sit & hoard the cash long enough without buying anything to do that.

  4. Twice as many NYX 9.8's. However, if they do a solo movie, boom.

My guess is they would just make a Wolverine movie. I mean... why dilute the Wolverine brand among the non-comic public?

Pure speculation all around of course.

    You mean Laura Kinney Wolverine?

I mean this Logan Wolverine character, that my comic book illiterate mother knows.

She recognizes Professor X, Wolverine, Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Spider-man.

I expect a Laura Kinney movie around the same time we get a Batgirl stand alone.

Because Hugh Jackman is done playing the character. The only option for Wolverine going forward is to re-cast the Logan/Wolverine character, or move onto the Laura Kinney Wolverine

  5. Question:

I purchased the Gamora JSC Exclusive from the JSC Store Online.

They shipped it fast, kudos to their fulfillment system!

However, the books came not damaged per se, but not in 9.8 worthy condition with obvious indentations on the spine, enough to say it's probably a 9.2 - 9.6 candidate.

I eliminate the postal delivery and packaging as the culprits since the box is nice and sturdy, a very high quality comic book mailer.

So, I'm of course assuming it was either the nature of the beast, and the print run was subject to flawed production of the books with dings, or possibly the handling on the fulfillment side where maybe it was bent in the process of the handling and packaging (which I sort of doubt since it's their business to cater to nit-picky condition queens).

    My question is...

Is that just the way the cookie crumbles and how the dice rolls?

Or, is it a reasonably inquiry to the JSC store for some sort of replacement or partial refund or some compensation?

I do realize not every book is going to be a 9.8, otherwise the 9.8 wouldn't be so coveted, but I also hear so many good things about how the JSC store delivers top quality condition books, and my 1st order here came in shy of those expectations.

I've ordered many, many times and always got my books in great condition. However, I must also say that I've never graded any of my books (but I do identify when there are folds, spine indentations or other minor details with the books).

For this Gamora cover I've heard that there are some complaints in how the books are being shipped now, so maybe you can also complain directly to their site.

I still have not received my copies, but will let you know how it goes. As I'm outside the US, maybe it'll take a month or so. =/

I got my Gamora's last week with the same results. I concur, that it was not a shipping problem. The books were packaged nicely and the box was not damaged. I don't think they guarantee 9.8 . IMO, it's just the way it is. The books were similar to an LCS comic that was on the rack for a few hours. Just light handling flaws.

Mine came in fine. Probably in the 9.6-9.8 range. But sometimes things happen. By the sound of it, your books are intact & they don't guarantee perfect books. That's the risk. My X-Men 92 Psylocke color variant had a couple very very minor spine tics on it when I got it that probably would make it a 9.2-9.4, but the other dozen or 3 books that I've bought from them have been in the 9.6-9.8 range. Sometimes you just gotta accept that not every book, even pulled immediately out of the box & bagged/boarded, is going to be near-perfect.

sorry to hear about your luck. But this is something that could happen anywhere.

  6. Next stop... Bankruptcy.

My goal is to complete from 1 to 300.

    I'm about 50 short including #4 and #94

But your sig line is beautiful.

    Great collecting goal right there

I know that particular challenge! I'm about 50 short of my 1-544 (including price variants, variants and reprints) goal now but 1 & 4 are the 2 big books left on my list.

  7. The green and gold book (Iron Fist costume colors) the folded logo and the fact she knew and cared enough to know my favorite character. She is awesome

Oh, I know. Once I finally saw the iron fist dragon (apparently I was just looking too closely & not taking in the image as a whole at first), all of it clicked for me. That's why I thought I was missing something. I didn't realize that the folds made the dragon logo at first. It was like one of those hidden picture things for me apparently. I totally missed it.

Now that I SEE it, I love it & totally get it. Awesome.

  8. That looks really cool, but can I ask what the point of a folded page book is? I mean, I've never seen that before that I'm aware of so am I missing the point of it? Is there something special about it beyond being super cool looking? Sorry, I just feel like I'm totally missing something here.

  9. I won't pay more than retail, so I'm waiting for them to become more plentiful at the stores. I contemplated just going the RetroPie route with the old-school controllers (or waiting for someone to release an NES-looking Raspberry Pi case rather than the typical case. I just like the idea of seeing this NES-looking box sitting next to the TV.

  10. Gen13 1st appearance. easily found in the $1 bins

    Yup (thumbs u

Prices on ebay bounce around on that one.

I remember getting a $65 store credit for issues 1 - 4 of that back in the day.

Is anything being done with Gen 13? I thought I heard Fairchild was part of the DC universe now. What about the rest?

I always thought the original Gen 13, not the later creators interpretations, but the first run, up through when Ed Benes illustrated the book, were really fun good reads with interesting well developed characters.

Warren Ellis is currently re-launching & "curating" the Wildstorm universe characters as a separate imprint at DC (like the Young Animal imprint) and I'm going to bet that they will eventually be part of that project. It's starting with just a single title The Wild Storm and going to branch out from there after a few months.

  11. Of course he does. My point about wishing mental illness hadn't been brought up is that I hate discussing the mental state of someone when we don't know. It just feels wrong somehow. I agree that if he has/had an issue, one would have to factor that into their thoughts on him and his behavior.

I hate discussing it too as it's a very gray and unsettling topic.

If Chip is not mentally well that will come out.

If I'm wrong that will come out too.

The point is not to be right or wrong, though. It's to do the best we can.

After all these pages, this post made my day. (thumbs u

I know it was asked earlier in the thread, and don't remember a reply, but does Chip still hold any of your inventory?

Good question. If he does Vintage should denote that on any books in future sales threads.

Folks should know that buying from Vintage might mean getting a book shipped(or not) by Chip.

    2c

    doh!

The only books Chip shipped for me were the ones he auctioned on eBay for me. The only 1 single exception was the one book that was returned and shipped to sacentaur. Other than that, Chip doesn't ship for me.

I actually resent that sort of talk as except for a few books that were shipped slowly by me over the last 13 years because real life gets in the way and the 1 incident with Chip nobody has ever had an issue with me.

As much as I've disagreed with you on this particular issue, I think the bolded item above is out of line/over the top.

    I'm not so sure.

If people demand full disclosure about the pressing of a book, then surely they would want full disclosure about a dealer having ties/association with a proven fraudster? Who wouldn't want to know that before throwing big bucks at something? If a person is going to throw support behind someone like this Chip character, then they have to expect some flak, not act all affronted like their character is being questioned. You bathe in mud, you're gonna get dirty.

I think that's absurd . That's getting into witch hunt territory. I mean... what...because Chip's hands touched them they're now tainted books? Do they have cooties? That's kind of the implication with comparing it to pressing, since pressing is something that has been done to a book, then Chip having them in his possession is something "done to a book" as well.

If books for sale were still in Chip's possession, then MAYBE I could see that being something that should be disclosed since the buyer should be aware that someone with a history of not shipping books in a timely manner is the one responsible for shipping the books they're buying. But that's not the case. So it's a moot point

  12. I only had 1 dealing with Chip & it went smoothly. So I'm saddened to see how poorly everyone else's transactions recently have gone, and the history of his poor service at other points in the past. So I'm regretfully going to have to vote yes here, regardless of potentially extraneous circumstances, because a history of bad service is a history of bad service, and that is what the HoS is for.
