  1. So the search function here is complete junk & I don't want to clutter the Ask CGC forum with a question about this & have been looking for about 20 minutes now, but I want to ask someone here:

Is there something I'm missing for putting together my submission form online but selecting the "pre screen" option? I've got enough books to meet the minimum, but for some reason, I can't seem to find the "pre screen" option for the life of me. Or is this something that I add at the end once it shows that I have enough books to meet the minimum?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. I think I tried the first 3 issues of X-O and it wasn't bad, but I couldn't really get into it. I didn't read Solar though. And I thought Magnus was OK but not interesting enough for me to really get into it that hard. Then after missing a few issues here and there, I stopped caring at all & realized that I didn't miss them & that I didn't think they were all that great to try to get caught up.

  3. But hey, I've got no problem being in the minority opinion. I love virtually everything from the time Ellis took over Stormwatch that was published by Wildstorm until DC ****ed it all up. So I'm used to not being in the majority opinion on books.

That Ellis stuff was great. I think you'll be in the majority there.

Something made Stormwatch good? ?? ????????:o

Ellis made Stormwatch into something amazing, morphed it into The Authority that served as a commentary on the Justice League (and simultaneously showing how the Avengers could become the JLA) & the idea of making the world a better place.

  4. I still feel like this particular Valiant craze is going to end in the same way that the last one did. I hope that's not the case, but all of the 90's stuff was awful in my opinion. They were just bad comics.

Pre-Unity Valiants were NOT bad comics. No way, no how. Writing, artwork, universe-building...all excellent.

We'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. They were not my bag at all. I thought they were derivative & poorly written junk with mediocre, though classic style, art & just pretty boring in general.

You'll be agreeing to disagree with lots of people who know the pre-Unity Valiant books.

I'll grant you (and have always said so) that later 1992 through 1994 Valiant books are both common and derivative, but the pre-Unity books (Valiant published before August 1992) were very good. Starting at about 1995, you might as well call them Image books. That was Acclaim's goal.

I'm not saying you don't know what you're talking about, but it's clear (over the past 20 years) that MOST people who don't like Valiant have never actually read the 50 books dated from 1991 through July 1992.

I read them. I started with Harbinger #1 and read the first 4 or 5 issues of it (and a few others, though they all tend to bleed together in my head into a smog of "meh") and didn't really have any interest. It felt like they were trying to do something but nothing about it really was terribly good IMO.

I hope it's better this time or that everyone just chooses to ignore the over-printed 90's junk at the end of the day & focus on the rebooted present-day Valiant that is actually pretty OK. But I feel like you're going to have a lot of people left holding a lot of literally worthless paper when this particular Valiant craze dies down in a few weeks.

  7. I've got a feeling that this is a hint at the vibe we're going to get for a lot of the Marvel Knights/Defenders/Netflix series.

This is going to be their gritty street/crime action drama. Jessica Jones is going to end up as a hardboiled detective series. Iron Fist is going to be the Hong Kong Kung-Fu cinema story. And Luke Cage is going to be the modernized urban Blaxploitation style story.

It's end up being a bunch of series that hits all the high marks of 70's cinema styles that also just so happen to fit the characters best as well.

Marvel likes giving each project its own unique genre influence, and this would be a great way to make all the Netflix shows unique & also suit the characters best.

  8.

how did someone with zero feedback list something for 12 grand?!

someone with zero feedback that claims to have been in the business for 25 years & have 100% eBay feedback with thousands of transactions in their description.

Thankfully, it looks like they fixed the price. Down to 99.95 now.

Assuming it is who I think it is...He's just started his ebay store. I've bought from cloud 9 many times over the years here in PDX. His website is brimming with cool stuff :)

I think he had a typo for the X-Men 94 CGC 9.8 book that is now listed (thumbs u

I don't doubt Cloud Nine is legit. I question the ebay account for being legit. You'd think that they wouldn't claim to have 100% ebay feedback when their ebay account is all of about 8 weeks old. You'd think that someone legit would explain that they've been selling off ebay for years and have recently moved into that market rather than saying "we have 100% feedback on ebay" with a feedback rating of 0.

Though, I guess 0 ebay transactions and a seller rating of 0 COULD be construed as 100%, in a very loose way. But somehow, this feels like dividing by 0.

  9. Marvel is hyping up Shiklah with This - Not too sure if this will catch or not, but Deadpool Dracula's Gauntlet 3 & 4 are both cheap and plenty around.. I got a few copies just in case this blows up

I think it's just the Deadpool Gauntlet series, which is a digital comic only. I think this is a first, what's her first printed appearance then?

Her first print appearance is (if my reading of a calendar is right, which it is sometimes sketchy), the wedding issue (Deadpool 27)

Everything prior to that was digital only.

Going to submit my jump drive to get slabbed :wishluck:

What kind? Mine is one of those slimline 32 gig things that is barely bigger than the USB port it's plugged into. I think CGC might need to make a smaller slab for these.

  11. I got really bored and tore off the covers of some junk comics that my roomies had already shredded the internals of for some girl project, mixed up a thinned glue mixture of my own concoction, sanded the cabinets to get some texture to them for the glue to adhere to, and wrapped the covers over the metal after dipping them in the glue mix like they were wallpaper.

I'm thinking of trying something slightly different on the 4th one when I get it home and trying a spray sealant over-top of the paper though. I'll see if that works at all.

But I'm also thinking about trying to redo it by getting some vinyl sheeting printed up & wrapping it like a vinyl wrapped car. I think that might be a little cooler & with a more even finish. No shrinking of the covers because of the water-based glue when it's laid down if I do it that way. Just need to find some vinyl sheet with comic covers printed (similar to the comic-themed printed fabrics) or find someone that'll print copyrighted material on vinyl for me that Kinkos would have done a decade ago but wont' now (because they're lame now)

  12. So I'm about 90% done with the Nerd Room Version 2.0 now & I really like the new color scheme to it. I've still got a bunch of art to hang, put up 2 more shelves for slabs & stuff to put away, so please ignore the clutter & poor iPhone pictures. Also need to add a 4th filing cabinet for comics because all 15 drawers here are filled now.

And before I hear about it... the curtains stay closed all the time & the lights are always off except for the half hour a week someone is in this room. I don't have to worry about light damage to those slabs.

  13. I neglected to mention my other "full run", which is every Windstorm Universe title published & all of the variants (including those still under the Image banner) and one-shots & everything. I am down to like 10 issues total to knock it out.

  14. 5% of the weekly comic collectors.

I think variants and renumbering has chased a lot of them off.

    And I can't blame them.

    This.

This has put me off of worrying about new series runs. I mean, I still buy every issue of something like UXM but I don't care about the variants (though now that it's jumping BACK to the original numbering for 600, I'm going to be irritated & try to fill in the complete set.)

  15. I collect full-runs on some books. Essentially X-books. All of them.

    Have completed my full runs on New Mutants (vol 1, 2 & 3), X-Factor (vol 1 & almost all of 3), X-Force (vol 1, 2 & 3) and I'm basically focused on my UXM (Vol 1 & 2 )& X-Men (vol 1 & 2) and down to a dozen in adjectiveless & about 80 left in my UXM.

I'm actually including almost all variants. It's an insane undertaking.

  17. I've had some success with them. I've bought some stuff through them & other times, I've had people offer things to me for a 50% markup over what they turn around and put it into a sales thread for. Thankfully, I've been good about smelling those out & avoiding them. Other times though, I've gotten fair offers from sellers. So it's a bit of a crapshoot.

But sometimes, I'm willing to pay that WTB-thread premium (for the really hard-to-find stuff) that often gets thrown onto them.

  18.

I feel like I should buy the graders notes for the 101 6.0 because outside of the small water stain in the lower corner, I'm a little confused on how they came up with 6.0.

The water stain is your answer. The lower right corner wear doesn't help either.

There's a thread here talking about water stains

I figured I'd take a hit on the stain (which I'm not even certain is a water stain but some sort of staining either way) but it seemed a little excessive IMO. Oh well. Not going to get too bent out of shape about it. I'm more confused about the XM 100.

And as I said, the bump in the other 101 from the 8.5 I expected more than evens it out, I guess.

  19. Just got 4 back from a coupon submission:

Also considering it for the 100, because I have a 30 cent variant 100 that's also a 6.5 and it doesn't look anywhere as nice as this one.

But hey, no big deal. The 101 9.2 came back higher than I expected.
