The future is marijuana. Invest heavily.
This may be a joke, but I actually looked into investing here a few years ago - actually as an alternative investment source for my mother-in-law. If only they could iron out the little discrepancy between the fed and local law, (e.g.: in Colorado where companies have to hold onto copious amounts of cash because federal banks can't take money from what is paramount to a federally illegal business), it would be a great time to get in... The alternative is to invest in either companies who have made a name with medicinal marijuana or companies that supply things like the hydroponics to the emerging market. I've not done it, but I'm telling you there is money to be made here. A ton of cash when the tide changes. I'm still watching as a viable option...
Was thinking the same thing myself. Mostly in the supply & equipment side.

Hulk #181 over GSX #1 and X-Men #94 any day, every day.
Those three (other than a Marvel Comics #1) were the holy trinity for me growing up. Hulk #181 consistently over the past 20 years has grown at a faster, steadier rate than GSX #1 or X-94, and I don't see that not being the case anytime soon.
Jim
I agree with Jim and support the notion that all X-Men # 94s are worthless and should be sold immediately to me at a maximum of 1/3 GPA

See, that's not even fair.

See.. I don't think it's much (if any) of a bubble. There's more people of a certain age that have reached the point where disposable income is available to buy up the books they wanted as a kid & that income has finally outpaced the inflation on the books. They're finally able to buy it.
Additionally, we've finally reached an age where buying something like this & displaying it in your home isn't just some "nerd thing" and has become accepted as part of the culture. That opens up doors to bring in some lapsed fans who have a love for old comics but "out grew it" and want to add that little piece for (relatively) cheap as an alternative to a pretentious piece of art.
Granted, there might be some artificial inflation to things, but I don't think it's a bubble. For every book that sells at well-above FMV, you get another that goes under the radar for 2/3 FMV or less.

At some point, I hope to upgrade, but probably do incremental upgrades to keep the "out of pocket" cost down & hide how much money I'm spending from myself.

well, I did say that I picked it up about 10-15 years ago (don't remember exactly when) and it wasn't slabbed when I bought it. That was just last year when I decided that slabs were the way to go for key/semi-key books.
It was before eBay was really the go-to place for key back issues for the general public, so I nabbed it pretty cheap (though I think I might have paid like $45 for my G/VG XM 94 that I just sold which was a little higher than I should have paid back then)

I just wonder if as our generation of physical paper comic book buyers and collectors passes on, will the digital age kids of today care as much about old paper comics, especially if they never bought or read them as kids. If so, great! I'd imagine there would be some, but enough to keep prices perpetually rising or at least steady with the demand? It will be interesting to see how the collecting landscape changes with time.
This is my only concern too. Before the advent of downloadable comics & portable tablets/readers, I would have said "no worries about it" but now I'm not so sure..

Thanks everybody. Just some reasonably priced mid-grades but they look killer.
-
I bought my GSXM 1 about 15 years ago. I bought my IH 181 recently. Had I bought them (at the same grade) in reverse order, I likely would have saved a few hundred bucks based on the price/value increases of each book.

If the new Spidey is black, I can almost guarantee that it's going to still be Peter Parker.
Miles' origin relies entirely on Peter's existence to make any sense.
And you're also back to doing another origin story, but this time a different one? Not really the best idea for a character that's had 2 origin stories already (and a retcon) in 5 total movies. Doing a 6th that's yet a 3rd origin is just going to grate on the audience. Even if this origin is different.

Fair enough! My XM 2, XM 94 and the 98 30 Cent variant are gonna go off to get slabbed in the future at some point. Might hold off until I get my next coupon submission for them though (because I'm still a cheap **** at the end of the day)

Eh, not so much "new stuff' as much as X-stuff. Just trying to knock out my complete run on UXM Vol 1.

Well you too for completely stealing my thunder!
NICE HAUL!

Not all this week, but the past few weeks since I haven't shared much recently (I really need to break down & buy a scanner)
Picked up on the boards
Picked up on eBay for cheaper than dirt even though it's the price variant
Also a board pickup to replace my G/VG copy that I've had for a decade
A bunch of sketches
The 4 stupid UXM 500 variants (the Turner sketch is going off for grading soon. It's a 9.8 candidate.

I picked up some Marvel Legends just for the comics & they were in pretty high grade shape.
I mean, if they're bound on the cardboard card with the toy, and the card is in good shape, you've got a pretty good chance that the book is in good shape too.

Well... so for some reason, the message system is only posting 1/2 my reply & it essentially starts at a part where I tell off a seller & it makes me sound like I'm telling off another boardie here. Not my intention. The message system is screwing around.
Long story short... didn't realize it until a few weeks later when balancing my checkbook & it wasn't a significant enough difference that the argument over $4 was worth it. Instead, I just won't buy from AA again unless I REALLY need something

My one Atomic Avenue experience was very . Seller had free shipping over a certain dollar amount & I added a dollar book to get me over the hump. He claimed being out of stock on 2 of the books, bringing me back under the free-shipping amount & charged me shipping as a result without giving me the option of backing out or finding something else to make up for the lost $$. I ended up paying more afterwards with shipping and 2 less books than I would have had I got all the books I ordered.
Weak sauce.
you could not cancel the order at that point? i would tell him to go himself.
WTF? My reply is only 1/2 posting & it's very much sounding like I'm about to tell you off for no reason. Please excuse this while I try to fix it.

Yeah. Pleasant pick-up & return. Wish at least one of them would have come back 9.8, but hey... I don't look gift horses in the mouth.

You found NYX #3s in a .50 Bin?!?!?!
I found 3 of them in the same box.
Had to do a double take at all 3 of them (all in a row too, bet there were more but I wasn't about to take the time to hunt when I was already in free money territory) and make sure they weren't like the WGC re-prints or something. Nope. All 3 were legit (and came back 9.6) for a whopping $1.50.
-
Nearly $400. Not too shabby.
Starting to feel like the earlier days of Quinn.
Patrick
What's even nicer is finding 3 of these in the same 50 cent bin that all grade out at 9.6. It's like free money

X-Men 1? I am assuming you don't mean ultimate x-men 1...
I also side with Overstreet that the uncanny isn't really part of the name...
Great books and good luck!
. Easier to distinguish that one from any of the other X-Men series by calling it Uncanny or shortening it to UXM. It's definitely sans-Uncanny in it's ACTUAL name, but for clarity sake... I'll still call it UXM. Granted, I could also be talking about either of the recent UXM series but still...
Giant Size X-Men #1 for investment?

In fairness, the primary reason gold has risen is a weak US dollar and the only reason it's dropped recently is because of the relatively weakER Euro that makes the US Dollar look more stable to the market.
And as the US hasn't done much to improve the value of the dollar with the monetary policy, it's more of a case of other currencies just doing worse than the US Dollar.
At least that's my opinion on it. I know a lot of economists that disagree with me on the US Dollar's strength.
