  1. Yes. the Church Superman #1 is a bigger/better book than the Church AA16
  2. You're forgetting the Pay Copy - but you're nailing it with everything else in your post. And congrats!
  3. Yes, the highest graded copy of Superman #1 is worth more than the highest graded copy of Cap 1. Is the single highest graded Superman #1 worth more than 1 of the 4 tied for highest graded Fantasy 15s? Right now, yes. You could debate that one of course, but the fact that the 3rd highest graded copy of Superman #1 sold for nearly $3 million would weigh heavily in support of that hypothesis. If the buyer of the 9.6 Fantasy 15 were to sell at auction right now, they might be disappointed also. It's all speculation until it happens.
  4. LOL - AF15 and Cap1 are not "bigger books in top grades than Superman 1". The "known to not even be the best copy in existence of" Cap1 just sold for 3 million. and look at comparison grades/prices of Cap vs Superman across the board. So why shouldn't the highest graded Superman #1 command a premium? Same for "tied with 3 other copies of AF15". Superman #1 skunks those books in equal grades across the board. I don't think Roy or anyone else is suggesting this is the most valuable comic in existence (I don't even think Roy would argue it's the most valuable slabbed comic in existence). It's just currently the high water mark for a selling price, and because none of the other books that might vie for the title of "most valuable" are currently available.
  5. You are leaving out Snyder who owned it before Redbeard, but at this point I'm not sure who owned it 25 years ago is important (though certainly Redbeard wasn't the one who color touched it)
  6. I thought you saw the Church Tec27 also? Or am I mis-remembering? It's interesting that both the Church Tec27 and Superman 1, which were seen as "flawed" copies for so long are both CGC 8.5s now. Shows how amazing most of the mega-keys from the Church collection were/are that those two amazing books were frowned upon.
  7. This guy believes Rozanski was involved in the recent sale of the Superman #1. Why is anyone listening to anything he has to say?
  8. Correct, and the Adventure 40 has color touch on the body of the cover itself, not just a dot along the spine like the More Fun and Superman.
  9. Just imagine how much more the Cap1 would have sold for if the Superman #1 sale had been public knowledge before the auction. Even Mitch "Criswell" Mehdy said yesterday Superman will fade and that Cap is #3 now, so if an 8.0 8.5 Superman #1 is worth 5 mil, the Cap is probably a 6-8 million book today.
  10. Superman #1 isn't just reprinted material. Why do people keep saying that? it's also the first appearance of the Kents as well as the first time the planet Krypton is named. As the first comic devoted solely to a single superhero, it's incredible important (yes, Skippy was the first book of a single character, and that was so successful that they waited five years before trying it again here).
  11. Spider-man is edgier? I don't read any of the new issues, but the same Spider-man that was always a super goody and in the most recent movie did everything he could to save the lives of the bad guys?
  12. For three decades now we've been hearing that Batman is more popular than Superman, that heat on Tec27 is accelerating and it's only a matter of time before it takes over the #1 spot. Yet, in those three decades the price difference between Action #1 and Tec27 has increased, and I would say significantly increased lately. Why and when exactly do people keep thinking Tec27 is going to overtake Action 1? Also going to go the opposite route and say that Superman #1 is much more important than Cap 1. No problem with Bat 1 and Cap 1 being the next tier, and no problem with Cap 1 being more valuable than Marvel #1 (for kind of the same reasons that New Fun 1 or Detective 1 aren't top 5 books).
  13. agree. Wouldn't be surprised at all if you look at this in a couple of weeks and see someone has used the Make an Offer feature and it hits 6 figures.
  14. Heritage sold one of the four 9.6s 15 years ago for $700+. I would imagine they would be much stronger today
  15. how has this thread over two hours old and not a single Hello Pal has been posted?
  16. Lou Bank, who originally worked for Glennwood and then directly for Carol Kalish stated: "When I started in 1987, the Direct Market was 25% of Marvel's comic sales; the newsstand 75%. When I left in 1992, those numbers were exactly reversed."
  17. If I owned this Action 1, I would seriously consider buying that piece of the cover to put with it.
  18. The bottom left corner chew is even worse (imo), but it is obscured by the poor CL photo, have to look at the original pic on HA to see it.
  19. You can look at it in the Heritage archives from back when it was a lowly 6.5 https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/batman-1-dc-1940-cgc-fn-65-cream-to-off-white-pages/a/825-44045.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515
  20. isn't $4920 "only" about 3.5x guide? I believe this book has the same BC as Tec 26 and Action 11, but it has always had strong demand due to it's great cover (and maybe the Double Action overlap?).
