    Tales of the Unexpected #29

Classic Sleeping Beauty of Space cover GGA

One you don't see too often, a nice mid grade example. Main issue is a light to medium scratch that goes through the sqaure caption box on right hand side to almost to middle of cover. Scratch does not penetrate cover or transfer onto interior, more aesthetic. Cream to off white pages

    (4.5)

    $70.00

I have a 9.2 W...but I think I would trade it for a 9.2 OW/W with a better wrap...you can see 1/16” of white on the top couple of inches...anybody agree/disagree?...is there a higher premium on PQ or front cover appearance?

This book has a ton of copies out there.  Yes the demand is high but the supply is out there.  When the dust settles a decade or two from now the books with fresh inks and perfect wraps will separate themselves from the rest since they are just so tough to track down.  To answer your question I would take a perfect wrap ow/w without hesitation over a weak cover wrap w.  You won't ever read the book you will enjoy it in the cgc case.  Go with the one that looks the best in the case (thumbsu

PP 3% is only $3 for every $100 received. So It would be another $1,050 on top of the $35,000...If someone needs that 3% that bad or is that cheap. Better off having the asking price posted at $36,050 instead.

not sure its about being 'that cheap' just wanting to net a certain value....

    great book glws

For those of you who have resubmitted a graded copy of turtles 1 after pressing, or for anyone else for that matter, what are your opinions of these grader notes on this 9.2 copy?

"Left Center Back Cover Small Multiple Finger Bends, Spine Small Stress Lines".  Seems to be some potential room for upgrade but it also seems the finger bends are becoming more common in grader notes and who knows if a single press will remove them.  Just interested in everyones thoughts.  Thank you.

finger bends can likely be flattened out with a press.  with the cover being black i would watch the spine stress lines.  a press could really make those pop and any gain you have by removing the finger bends would be washed by increased spine stress.  do you have a scan?

  5. I am of the mind that the copies with the original signatures from Kevin and Peter will hold a premium as time goes on.  From my limited tracking this doesnt necessarily seem the case but maybe some of the experts have some thoughts?  Would the 9.6 have crossed the 20k mark with the original sigs?

    Gotta love TMNT 1 :headbang:

  6. IG and the relatively small g/s/b age collector group has really matured over the past couple years.  at first it scared the mess out of me getting offers to buy or trade.   but the bad apples get weeded out and if you follow it for a few months you will know who is legit.  its a nice quick way to view some incredible books and take your mind off things for a few minutes here or there.  selling/trading is in all honesty much easier through instagram than it is the boards and waaay easier than ebay.  some of us in LA/OC area had a meet up last week and it only enhanced the sense of community.  i believe a lot of board members are on it now and i would encourage anyone to check it out if you havent yet. (thumbsu

  7. Thanks for the messages to those that have inquired.  I just snapped a few additional photos and tried to capture the defects from the notes.  I don't have a scanner that cleanly scans books and Its sunny all over the house right now sorry about the glare.

  8. thanks guys, yes, this book was very well taken care way back in the day.  i previously owned a different pre-robin with the beverly stamp and it was similar with spine issues but newstand fresh inks, no wrinkles, no dirt.  i also believe an early action (13 perhaps?) with a beverly stamp was for sale on the boards within the past 6 months.  seems beverly knew the good books!  my guess is this collection was a 'find' possibly before 'finds' were a thing.

i have had a good bit of interest and some pending discussion on the table. if anyone else wants to discuss feel free to message!

    cheers
