  1. A book that needs no introduction... The Rifleman #10 Low grade copy. Several chips out of spine and chip out of lower right front cover. The staples are still attached. Two tears on back cover. Interior pages are off-white. 51 on census. The lowest graded copy (1.5) is on eBay BIN for $199. My copy presents better and will cost you less at $130
  2. Up next is a Phantom Lady #22 The front and back cover are detached and split from the interior. The back cover originally went with this interior but the front cover is from another PL22. So...it's complete but made up from two different books. The interior is fantastic. Only thing I could say is slight staple discoloration. 14 on census. So this would grade a 1.0Q "married front cover" probably. A 3.5 just sold for $1,315 six months ago...so $350
  3. Rick (again) Wild Boy #14
  4. Here's a book you don't see everyday! Justice Comics #8 Nice tight flat copy. Small chip out of top right corner of front cover and a chip two inches from right edge on bottom. A dust shadow on bottom of back cover. A tiny tear three inches up by the word 'send' on the back cover as well. Only 1 of the census. There's a 7.0 on eBay for BIN $199. Take this one home for $80
  5. Rick Teen-Age Romances #20
  6. Another Baker cover in Wild Boy of the Congo #14 This is a low grade copy as there is a 2" spine split at the top and a 1" spine split at the bottom. Minor chipping on back cover as well as a dust shadow. 3 on the census. A 5.5 sold for $300 earlier this year. Make this one yours for $75
  7. Next up is Blue Bolt vol. 6 #8 Color breaking creases at the spine, a crease lower right front cover and a tiny piece out of top of spine on back cover. A 3/4" tear on right edge of one interior page that doesn't affect the art. Solid book considering it came out in 1946! Only 2 on the census. $75
  8. Howdy! I will be listing roughly 10 raw GA books from low grade to mid grade. Shipping will be $8 no matter how many books you purchase. First person to say wins and this trumps ongoing PM negotiations. I would like payment by either PayPal or check. Returns are fine as long as it is stated that you want to do so within 3 days of receiving a said book. Buyer will have to pay return shipping costs. Keep in mind that I'm more than happy to take as many pictures as you'd like of each book to try and avoid potential returns First book up is Teen-Age Romances #20 Matt Baker cover and lots of Baker interior art! Only 7 on the census. Biggest defects on this book is 2" tear to right of the word 'gypsy' on the front cover as well as a tear on the spine by the woman's head and above that at top of spine. Interior pages are cream colored. One page has a 1/2" tear and a 1" tear at bottom. Small (less than 1") tears on a few other pages from the right edge. Other than that, there's the usual staining and creasing you'd expect from a lower grade book. Only other copy I could find online is a heavily miscut raw "good" that looks worse than mine for $175..so I'll ask for a tad more at $180
  9. This made me laugh! A couple years ago when I got an error message while trying to bid on a Captain America Comics #72 7.0 W Canadian Edition in a CLink auction I felt like I may die...but I am still hanging on haha Did I mention it is the only known copy to exist? Or that I held the physical book in my hands just a few weeks earlier when Greg Reece brought it to Boston Comic Con but I didn't pull the trigger? Ehh...
  10. Yup, I haven't bought anything very substantial at a con in a few years. Last semi-expensive book I did get was a Sgt. Fury #13 by partial trade and cash that was beautiful but ended up grading a 8.5 even after a press. Now I hate that grade I will be attending Boston Comic Con Fan Expo this coming weekend but will only be going one day instead of all three like I used too. I'm not holding my breath for much of a decent GA selection there at all. The only thing that made it worth going the last two years was meeting board members there, some of whom had the best books in the place! I will try to get to New York Comic Con this year for the first time. Hopefully they have some (even just one ) GA books I'm looking for. As for the state of the hobby, I wholeheartedly agree that the pricing is getting nuts. As I stated in my journal, I cannot even get a non-war cover GA Captain America book that has had color touch and been trimmed on all three sides for under $500! I understand Cap is one of the most popular series of all GA titles but There's one more book I'm looking to get this year for my main series I collect and if I land it, I think I will take a break from purchasing for a while. I'll need to do that anyway if I ever want to save up enough to purchase a bigger key at this rate
  11. I hardly ever buy modern books these days but I really like this cover.
  12. Yay!! Cap #74! One of my favorite golden age books of the entire era!! Of course, I may be biased A truly beautiful book you have there though with great pq!
  13. Sweet Caps! #33 is one of my top 5 favorite covers and that #38 is killer as well GLWTS
  14. It is a wonderful book and I'm sure there are many boardies who would be thrilled to own that in that condition. If it were a more presentable 1.0 or 1.5 I would say no way. As it is though, I would probably spring for the resto. I can't see how it would hurt the value and I'm sure it would look awesome!
  15. I'm watching some books in the coming auctions from other places so I didn't buy any comics but I did save a decent amount on some cosplay items. Plus I had $102 eBay bucks to use as well
  16. Low grade GA is is all I buy these days but with a budget like mine I can only afford ~3 books a year so I have to be extremely picky unfortunately Great books btw!!
  17. R.I.P. Ditko Unless I'm mistaken, this may be the only comic I own with work by him in it...
  18. Not many! When I first started collecting this series, $500 or under was my goal for a lot of the issues. Obviously that wasn't going to happen for the earliest issues or the Schomburg war covers but it was doable for the most part. Now, it's difficult to achieve on any issue. Even these random issues toward the end that I have started with. Prices are going up across virtually all comic books and for popular series like Captain America it's even worse. It looks like I'm going to have to either dip below my 2.0 grade threshold, as well as accept trimmed/brittle books or limit myself to 2 - 3 books a year. Even then, these 1.0 - 1.8 books can get crazy on eBay. Right now there's a Cap #13 1.0 slightly brittle pages at $1,550. It is a very popular cover and it presents well for a 1.0 but I know its going to hammer for ~$2,000 when someone paid $2,383 22 months ago for a 4.0 off-white copy. Competition for these low graders is fierce!
  19. So...I'm looking through the books in the July 1st Heritage Sunday Comic auction and I see that there are three golden age Caps in there. All raw and restored to various degrees. The issue I'm most interested in is #65 which is an apparent VG- with slight color touch to cover and trimmed on all three sides. Let me repeat that. TRIMMED ON ALL THREE SIDES. I think most collectors would agree that trimming is the worst kind of restoration a book can have since someone basically removed part of the book to make it look better. That cannot be undone! So I figured this book would go for "relatively cheap" since a 3.5 unrestored just sold for $685 in June of this year. Maybe like $350-$400 I thought. Nope. The @%$# thing hammered at $600, which, after the buyers premium is $720! I can only guess the winner doesn't care about trimmed books...which, I suppose some people...may not? Or maybe the winner just had to have the one cover where Cap slaps his partner? Either way, I wasn't paying that for that book even though it was the next book I needed on my way down from issue #78 (besides #72). There are 38 unrestored copies on the census (give or take a few). It's not like there are 9 or even 19. It will come up again! After not winning that book (since I didn't bid due to the price already being above what I was comfortable with) it allows me to pursue others. The hunt is most of the fun to me anyway. With a limited budget, you have to choose your books carefully and cannot afford (literally) to overspend. Keeping on track with the current series you are on can also be a challenge as well when you come across a beautiful book you want but buying it would slow down your main series collecting. One such book last week was All Top Comics #16. A 5.0 off-white to white pager was on eBay. I was tempted to go after it as I love the cover. It last sold on 6/6/16 for $825. It was at $911 with under a minute left until it shot up to $1,336 in the last ten seconds! A 61.7% increase in just over two years?! Damn someone wanted that book! I did win a GA Cap book from the most recent ComicConnect auction which is on its way to me now. I'll post it as soon as it arrives!
  20. That Strange Mysteries #2 is a sweet cover! Reminds me of one of the photos I had Gillian Anderson sign when I met her a couple years ago
