  1. True! And Stan also said that one time when he was in an argument with her she smashed his typewriter into bits on the floor. That typewriter was used for a ton of Marvel stories that are now considered classics. For years after that Stan would remind her of what she did. "Do you know how much we could have sold that typewriter for?" he would say
  2. I would not buy another Cap book for six months after my CGC 1.8 Cap #72 in November of 2016 on eBay. I would actually end up selling the Cap #72 in April 2017 to a board member. Why? I just felt the grade was a tad too low being a 1.8. The next book I would pick up was a Captain America Comics #69 CGC 3.0 Canadian edition off the boards a month later in May of 2017. It was actually the board member who sold me my Cap #74 Canadian edition that notified me that this book was for sale, so now I owe him even more I had missed out on a raw US edition of this issue on the boards maybe a year or so prior so I quickly snapped this one up! Off white to white pages and wonderfully presenting for a 3.0. What more could one ask for? It also has an interesting maple leaf stamp on the cover. Never seen that before The next book I bought was a complete but coverless Captain America Comics #27 off eBay in September. I had not bought a coverless Cap issue before but this was issue #27! It was one of my favorite issues and I figured I had time to wait for a cover while I continued on the rest of the collection. I did not have to wait long as four days later someone listed a Captain America Comics #27 front cover only on eBay! Crazy! I was a bit hesitant to purchase it since it was only the front cover. What were my chances of getting just a back cover? Better just to wait for a complete front and back cover I thought, but I still pulled the trigger since it was pretty well presenting. So now I had an almost complete copy of Cap #27! Not bad! Now this isn't a GA Captain America Comic but while perusing the November ComicLink auction I came across a Wow Comics #38 CGC 4.0. I had never seen this cover before and it really struck me as beautiful. Quite simple in it's design with Mary Marvel soaring above the clouds with arms outstretched and a little lightning bolt off in the distance. It has become one of my favorite GA covers and I'm glad a won it. Now to find who owns the CGC 9.2 Crowley/File Copy, even though that has cream to off-white pages and mine is off-white to white pages My last Cap book bought in 2017 was a Captain America Comics #67 CGC 2.5 off the boards in December. It's the 2nd lowest graded copy on the census (of 30) but that's where I expect most of my books to be so it fit in perfect with my collection. Finally I am caught up to 2018 so this this journal will soon be in real time! Captain America Comics issues acquired to date - 27, 33, 44, 53, 66, 67, 68, 69, 70, 71, 73, 74, 75, 77 and 78.
  3. Not really a grail per say but here's a coverless Cap #27 I have.
  4. This my have been discussed but I just realized the Cap 1 was the same book that sold on July 22nd, 2010 for $23,500 according to GPA. A rise in price of $151,700 in just under 10 years. A nearly 7.5x price increase! That makes my head hurt
  5. What if the CGC 7.5 WHITE pager came up for sale again and you were in a position to buy it? Would you sell this copy to fund the upgrade? That is why I don't think I have a book that I wouldn't sell to either get my holy grail (Cap #1) or upgrade the book I'm selling. I suppose if you have the your favorite book in the highest grade on the census (lucky you!) or the book was given to you by someone near and dear and is therefore highly sentimental to you you wouldn't need/want to get ride of it. Sure, my 4.0 Canadian edition Cap #74 is second highest grade (of 2 on census haha) and I'm not eager to upgrade to the 8.0 since it is a little too misaligned for my liking, BUT...I'd sell my Cap #74 if I had no other way to fund the gap of acquiring a Cap #1.
  6. I've seen someone do that with a cat. Thought it was a very furry scarf until I got closer and saw the tail wag. Had to step back for a second Thanks for taking the time to take these pictures!
  7. As I was saying in my last entry, I was longing for my first Alex Schomburg war cover. It came by way of the boards from a member who was willing to work with my on time payments in July of 2016. I present to you Captain America Comics #33!! As you can see, this book has been restored (via a piece re-attached to cover with glue) and has a detached cover. These are two characteristics I said I was going to stay away from except for the more expensive issues. I would consider this one such issue. Since buying this book I have decided to "lower my standards" if you will, for the books I decide to bring into my collection. I still will strive for grades 2.0 - 4.0 but restoration and detached covers/centerfolds won't be an automatic denial for a given book. Of course the exact amount of restoration will play a part and I'm still avoiding trimmed or brittle books. This particular Cap #33 has very little restoration, presents wonderfully and has like new WHITE pages to boot! I don't see myself getting another copy of this book for under $1,000 anytime soon. There are two 1.0 graded books on the census but who knows if they present well at all. I am super happy to own this book as it is one of my top five Cap covers of the entire run. Issues #1-3 & #27 rounding out the top five. Which issue next I asked myself. I needed just issues #72 & #78 to complete Cap #70 - #78 so I put my first WTB post up for a Captain America Comics #78 in September of 2016. I got three people offering a copy right away. I was pretty surprised! Then, a board member reached out to me offering a quadruple signed CGC 3.0! The signatures were from Stan Lee, Ayers, Joe Simon and John Romita! I thought my triple signed Cap #73 was cool! What was I going to have to give to this guy to make that comic mine? A kidney and promising my first born child??? Luckily he just wanted cash and a trade for my raw Cap #76 I had bought on eBay the year prior. After a couple weeks of messaging back and forth to meet at a price we were both comfortable with, it was mine! I would go on to pick up Cap #72 off eBay in November of 2016. A CGC 1.8 which is the lowest graded copy on the census That would be my last Cap issue purchased in 2016. I now had 13 GA Cap issues (33, 44, 53, 66, 68, 70-75, 77 & 78). The first issue I purchased in 2017 would be another Canadian copy off the boards...
  8. Sweet! I'm still eagerly awaiting the day I get one of the first 10 Cap issues
  9. One of my favorite books in my collection. Yours is the best copy I've ever seen!
  10. I don't see a way to purchase celebrity photo ops. Is it not available yet?
  11. Yeah...first time I went there a few years ago it was nothing to brag about. Hardly any back issues and as Buzzetta said, inflated prices. I was there again this past January just because I was walking past it headed somewhere else...and it was still lackluster. Enjoy Times Square though, if that's your thing.
  12. You should be happy with that one! A complete Captain America Comics #1!! The cover presents extremely well for the grade. I'm happy just looking at it, never mind owning it!!
  13. Perhaps the winner was an underbidder on a "fair" (complete) copy that had sold nine days earlier and "wasn't going to be beat again!"? We'll see if this doesn't get relisted within a few days... https://www.ebay.com/itm/Cinderella-Love-27-April-1955-St-John-Fair-Matt-Baker-cover-art-/173154383502?epid=85430955&hash=item2850ce368e%3Ag%3AxgsAAOSwvGlagG6i&nma=true&si=lb6ycksW446OBz%2BMJSrQ8t6Gleg%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
  14. I feel like non-Baker classic covers in romance are few and far between. I know I haven't seen every romance cover there is (who has?) but it's slim pickings IMO. L.B. Cole certainly had some covers I would have to think on as well as Colletta but if a cover has even one word bubble on it then it generally ruins it for me. Maybe I'm just too picky There are several painted covers that I like a lot but could they be considered classic if it's just a head shot? Probably not. I own very few romance comics but I would consider these two to be classics - I was going to say Sweethearts #119 as well but does Marilyn Monroe being on a cover automatically make it classic? Eh...
  15. I was going to suggest this one. It's one of my top ten favorite covers across all genres. I'm actually trying to compile a collection of all scans of every issue in each grade. So far I have 11 of the 31 copies listed on the census. I wonder why the highest graded copy listed is a 8.5 when there's a 9.2 and/or a 9.4 Crowley/Church copy graded?
  16. Great cover! I knew I saw that name stamped somewhere else...but why on the face?! Anywhere but the face!!
